New York Marathon 11/4

Not sure if this has come up in these posts, my quick search didn't turn anything up. The NY Marathon will be No. 4 and I'm wondering if anyone has good info on the impact for those if us disembarking on Nov. 2 but planning to do some sightseeing (not NYC) in the area before flying out of EWR early the following week. I noticed that rental cars at EWR seemed very expensive so maybe that is why. Any insights will help us plan our time and routes. Thanks.

If you're not going to be in NY City, you won't be affected by the marathon. There may be some indirect effects on things like hotel and rental car prices(as you already noticed) because there will be a large demand that week, but if you're not in the city you won't even know the marathon is being run.

The Marathon ends in Central Park near 68th Street and does not involve the streets on the West Side. Central Park West and South will be busy but not the other streets. Been there for many a marathon. The Queens Midtown Tunnel will avoid the whole mess.

All of the activity will be on the East Side above 59th Street and the ports are on the West side except for Cunard sailing out of Brooklyn.

Anyone attempting to come into Brooklyn or Manhattan via Staten Island---forget it! The Verrazano Bridge will close down at midnight the night before and remain closed until the afternoon of the marathon.
