Trainman on RCI Food…

While I was posting from the Pool Deck this morning I got into a conversation with several other cruisers.

Their comments were that the food is not as good as it used to be and that the food on this cruise was not good.

Every night, before we all leave the MDR, I poll my table mates on how they liked the meals. With the exception of Wednesday night we have all agreed the food was good!

A while back some guy posted on CC that all of the food on an RCI Ship was inedible! I have to smile and wonder how he avoided starving over the length of the seven night cruise with nothing on the ship that could be eaten. He must have pigged out ashore at every port!

I don’t expect five star meals in the Windjammer and the MDR. If I really wanted them, there are other, more expensive cruises available to me.

The other night I had the Parmesan Encrusted Turkey for dinner. I didn’t like it! But that was my personal taste. As far as I could determine, the meal was properly cooked and the turkey was tender with a crisp crust on it.

It is unrealistic to demand that we be fed exactly what we want every meal of every day when on a cruise. The only way to get that is to stay home and cook what you want for yourself. Or maybe hire a personal chef to cook exactly what you want.

Food quality and taste, like smoking on board, is a discussion that will never be resolved on CC.

Bear with me folks. I will call them as I, and my table mates, see them.

Could not agree more!!!

love these pics, I think they are my favorite so far

Yesterday we went on the Coastal Orientation Tour.

We had a good time because we were on a small bus with a Tour Guide who spoke excellent English and had a great personality and a zillion facts and stories.

However, we were nowhere near the coast. We rode all over the country and stopped at a shoping place and in a village square to see some young girls doing native dances.

Dancing girls were adorable. Looks like there might have been 1 boy too.

Food porn made me hungry.

Pictures are great. You are doing a great job. Just remember, this is your vacation, so if you can't post from time to time, don't worry. Enjoy your cruise. We will still be here when you get a chance to post.

Thanks,

Gwen :)

Hi Leslie, where did you find the new menu?

The menus that Jim has been posting are very different from those that I've had the past 3 or 4 years so I am assuming these are knew as the dishes are so very different and unknown to me.

"Sun rise, sun set, swiftly flow the days".

Just gorgeous pictures of the sunrises and sunsets. My favorite. I hope your days aren't flowing by too fast. Continued good weather and happy sailing. Really enjoying your "live" report. Thanks.......

I have truly been enjoying "living" my Panama Canal cruise through you, Trainman. Great photos and commentary! As for the menus, we were on a 14-night cruise last year, and the a number of the menu items I am seeing for your cruise are new to me and different what we've had on any of our previous cruises. They may not have completely instituted the new menu, but it looks like they are phasing in some new items. Variety is always welcome, and I can always find something to eat!

Have a great time on your tour today!

I joked with my wife about going on this B2B cruise when I saw it on the RCCL website a couple weeks ago. :)

Now I get to live vicariously through this thread so tyvm Trainman-2! :D

Unfortunately my wife says I have tortured her by sharing the details of this thread. :(

And now she says she doesn't know what, but I definitely owe her!

Happy Sails Jim!

Woohoo!!!! My goal as well, we saw it in Tampa last month, but couldn't get it on film there either. I've been told it's impossible on a ship because of the movement of your camera..but its a thrill to see! The beaches load up with people trying to see and film it in Tampa just before sunset. They come out of the woodwork! Beautiful!
