POLL: What do you think an all-inclusive package will do to the atmosphere on board?

So, I know they are just flirting with the idea of the all-inclusive drink package, but how does it make you feel?

1) I love the idea of the all-inclusive drink package! I will buy it the second I am on board. Bring on the party and forgive me if I put my arm around you in the elevator when I have had a few too many!!

2) I am concerned about it getting rowdy. There is a reason I didn't choose the "party ship" cruise line. I like a peaceful atmosphere and I hope they don't go ahead with it.

3) It doesn't really matter to me and I don't think it will change the atmosphere. Those who are partaking won't bother me.

4) Other?

I am happy either way, just so happy to be on an NCL cruise ship and the iPhone is in the safe and no email or calls are coming in. Seven + days of family time that we just don't get at home. I think it is great that they are considering this type of package as it has been discussed in threads that people would like it. NCL is clearly listening and is trying new things.

That being said, I think people will drink what they will, inclusive or not. At $49 per person per day, it does not work for us as DH only drinks beer, we are not soda drinkers and very rarely do special coffees.

I did a cost of what we would drink and for me it would definately work.

Didn't have any impact on the Sun cruise we just came off. There were not a lot of people that bought it, and those that did said they did it more for the peace of mind knowing what their alcohol bill would be from the start. I didn't see any stumbling drunks or rowdy behaviour. Spring break might be another animal, but there is always rowdy behavior and drunk students on those cruises regardless.

I think it all depends on the demographic of your cruise. If its springbreak time it may make for a lot more rowdiness than usual but on regular cruises I dont think it will matter. It doesnt pay for us as we get as platinum 2 dinners with wine (we usually bring bottle back to our cabin) and 2 bottles of sparkling wine in the cabin. We also book through CAS so we drink for free in the casino. Last 10 day cruise we actually brought home one of the bottles of wine LOL So this package does nothing for us!

I like the idea of the all-inclusive drink package. For what it's worth, my wife & I were on one cruise that included all drinks (except for extreme high end) in the cruise fare (Regent). During the 10 days of the cruise, I noticed exactly one obnoxious drunk person; a whole lot of friendly, happy folks enjoying the evening hours on the cruise; and a whole lot of others who you'd never know if they were drinking or not if you didn't see them with a drink in their hand. No over-the-top "party" atmosphere; nobody groping strangers in the elevators; nobody puking in the hallways or elsewhere in public areas; etc, etc. In other words, it was a whole lot like all of our other ten or so cruises without drink packages or cards - - a mix of drinkers and non-drinkers and hardly anybody out-of-line.

I'm sure I'd get more than my money's worth out of a $50/day drink card. I'm equally sure that my wife would not. So in the end it doesn't really matter all that much to us.

I think I like the idea. I would however feel a little pressure to make sure I drank enough to get my money's worth. I would have to look back at other trips to see what we racked up in drinks. $49 seems like a lot, but I suspect it would be easier to reach than I currently imagine. I would probably be more tempted to have drinks at dinner. At least, as was said before, you know what your bill will be.

I don't think it'll change much. People who drink will drink - they do now, for sure. I see some sitting at the bar all day and wonder at the potential size of the final tally. People who don't drink, won't.

I'm uncertain whether it would be worth it for us or not - we can and do live without specialty coffees and soda. We like wine with dinner, but a bottle lasts two meals and I'm not so sure that would change - though it would be nice to be able to order different wines by the glass to match different courses. DH can easily put away a six-pack of beer in a sea day without blinking an eye. We both enjoy the occasional cocktail. I guess it would probably depend on the itinerary whether it would be worth it or not, for us. A port-intensive itinerary with long days, probably not so much.

That's a really good point- on a port intensive itinerary, it would be really hard (for most people!!) to get their daily money's worth. On a TA with lots of sea days, more may choose the all-inclusive. Keep sharing your thoughts everyone!

Regent cruisers are, for the most part, a completely different animal than NCL cruisers. Proper behaviour and decorum are expected and appreciated by Regent clientele.

NCL cruisers tend to want to squeeze every dollar paid and so would drink more because it's "free"'. I have never been on an NCL ship where there were not people over drinking and vomiting in public like college kids. Oh yes, nothing nicer than a man barfing into his empty "beer helmet" ....eeccch.

A real all inclusive at a higher fare price point, not an add on package, would weed out the overindulgers.

I've never seen any such behavior on the NCL cruises I've been on, but then, I don't spend all that much time near bars or the pool, so YMMV.

Regarding the behavior on ~snob mode on~ Regent ~snob mode off~, once a person has imbibed to a certain level I'm pretty sure their social strata doesn't make a whit of difference in the decorum of their behavior.

I don't remember the few AI's I've been too as being filled with obnoxious drunks, except in college when I was on Spring Break & was one of the obnoxious drunks. But that was a super cheap vacation so I doubt even during Spring break that you are going to get the college crowd but you might.

I don't think the package includes high end liquor or pricier wines so for me I'd never buy it. I'd rather have quality cocktails then a larger quantity of cocktails.

It will make a certain segement more apt to drink too much but as long as an a la carte menu is still available it should't change others' enjoyment too much.

DH and I would agree with statement #2. There is a reason we don't choose the party ships or the all-inclusives. We prefer to pay as we go and we don't want to pay for services or things we won't or don't need.

Disagree with all those saying all inclusive automatically means drunken rowdy behaviour!

Personally on my recent cruise I spent over $49 a day on drinks but I only drink sodas in the day.

I was in Bliss until 3/4AM most nights and at $7 a drink early evening moving to $10 doubles late night it's only like 3 large beers and 3 double vodka and cokes over 8hrs. I bought the $2 bottles from the vending machine as well so all inclusive would be ideal.

We found Regent passengers to be just about the same as the other cruise lines we've taken (for the record: two Regent cruises; two Carnival cruises; two Royal Caribbean cruises; three NCL cruises; one Oceania cruise; and a scuba-diving cruise on a dedicated scuba vessel). Very little "snob" behavior on Regent. In fact, I've seen as much or more demanding/snobbish/boorish behavior on the other lines as on Regent. And the point below is well-taken - - once a certain level of alcohol hits the bloodstream, you can pretty much forget about "good breeding/manners" or "more money" saving your drunken butt from making a fool of yourself.

By the way, the option wasn't offered in the original poll, but my choice would be to pay a higher overall cruise fare and have all drinks, including call brands and "fine" wines & spirits (but still excluding extreme high-end liquors/wines/etc) included on the cruise. No cards, no signing for drinks, no keeping track...just relaxed cruising!

I'm not sure what kind of people YOU met on any of your NCL cruises but I can assure you that my family are most certainly not the type of cruiser you describe........nor have we seen any of the behaviour you describe!!! We may only have 2 NCL cruises under our belt but none-the-less, you make very big assumptions there!!! :(

Rant over!!!
