Bit of a blog - Adventure of the Seas – B2B in the Caribbean – 18th November 2012

My son seems to think that we can just use our 3G with unlimited wifi. Any ideas how I would be able to check would I need to call RCCL or my internet provider here?

I agree with the previous poster, I believe you are either going to have to pay for the internet usage or the cell towers on the ship, both of which can add up quickly. I too would check into this before you get a nasty surprise.

The rate will depend on your cell phone provider - but you will be roaming...we have Verizon, so we had free data, and texts in San Juan and St. Croix. Calls in San Juan were .69/minute, but the data was under our regular plan.

Each of the other islands was different and the ship was the most expensive of all.

Apparently these gentlemen have ties to Casinos and have plenty of money to spare. I'm guessing they are NOT the same ones. We really didn't see them very often. They matched bathing suits at the pool area and tuxes at dinner but we didn't see them much while we were out and about.

I think they are the same as cruised last year on Adventure, Glyn though they had a cabin for their luggage. They dined near us on week two, and we saw them at breakfast a few times. They look very ordinary without their make up and wigs. I think they make Pinnacle in January. I hope they realise the ship is returning to Southampton.

Hi!!

At one of the returner events it was said they are debarking in May..... so that'll be in Southampton.....

Just finished the blog, loved it, you're eggsellent (an eggy quip!) at describing things to the reader.

Can I ask - what is Pets at Sea?

Lol @ bovvered, face look bovvered - Catherine Tate character.

Being mistaken for crew - oh you could've had great fun with the rude ppl, next time you'll have to take a walkie talkie looking thing with you and pretend to talk to the captain about having them sent to the brig!

Loved the beautiful photos, and admire your ability to jump into the cruises and partake of all there is to do and to meet the majority of your fellow passengers?

Pity about the disembark process, hope you had a great flight back.

Would you do a b2b again?

The owner suite looked beautiful for the couple who mentioned that was going to be their suite shortly - very lovely room.

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for you lovely comments.

Pets at Sea is where the little 'uns can choose an animal, stuff it, dress it and then own it.

Check out this link.

I would definitely do a B2B where a particularly long flight was involved and separate itineraries were involved..... and if I could afford it! lol

I would love to visit the far east and B2B over there..... similarly Australasia....

So are you saying then that as long as our UK phone provider is offering for £3.00 per day the same allowances in Europe as we receive in the UK that we should be able to use this on board. This is what my son seems to think. We have unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 3gb wifi and 2gb mobile internet. So we could just use our phone on board for calls, texts and internet in line with the amounts above???

Well, I am not clear as to what your UK provider is offering (but I think your £3.00 per day is just giving you the ability to access an international network), but while on board the ship and sailing, all calls and data will go through their provider, (Cellular at Sea I think) and the voice calls portion will be charged $2.49/minute. I forget what the data charge is but not cheap.

Basic rule: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Okay I wanted to get it clear in my head so I called RCCL.

Apparently the 3gb of wifi I received would need to go through RCCL but the 2gb of mobile internet wouldn't. She said it would not be guaranteed whether reception would be available but if it was then the mobile internet would be using my UK allowances.

All I know is :

I am with Vodafone (£21 monthly tariff) and have set a cap on my roaming expenditure. Once that had been reached they sms me and blocked. I could have lifted it but it had been used up so quickly that I decided not to lift the bar. The data portion is the bit that uses up the bandwidth or whatever it's called.

If you are accessing through the ship system you WILL be charged for that portion too. When you land at a port you will receive an sms that tells you how much accessing the country service will cost. You don't get that with RCCL. My free trial data package did NOT apply abroad (I checked before I left).

Just had a look at a Compass.... there's a Cellular service leaflet available at Guest Services..... I don't think I have it.....

When using your UK phone on the ships it'll be treated by your network as a call/txt/data access from the USA so will be charged as such even if the ship is over here in Europe - so any package you have for using your phone in Europe won't apply in this case and you'll be charged extra when using it

YOU MAY VERY WELL PAY YOUR RATE TO YOUR PROVIDER BUT YOU WILL ALSO PAY FOR THE PRICE OF THE CELL TOWERS ON THE SHIP - IT IS LIKE A DOUBLE CHARGE - I am not yelling - just want you to be aware that the ship is about $2 USA per minute PLUS your provider time -

Taken from the RCL Website - there is a charge:

Services and Accessibility - Royal Caribbean International Per minute rate applies. Cellular at sea Royal Caribbean has an advanced roaming network available on all ships, allowing you to place and receive calls, voice mail, text messages and GPRS data using your own cell phone.

Well, we're on Adventure Sunday, so let me know if you had any open questions that you would like answered. I won't be blogging (not a super hero like Linda) but I can try to get some answers.

The drink prices in particular I intend to investigate fully!:D:D

Helloooo,

Would be interesting to know if the same drinks are priced differently at different venues..... e.g. Viking Lounge v Pool bar..... there's a thread running about that.... say hi to Cristian at the Pool Bar..... ask for a Pimm's and watch his face!!! Wonder if they replenished it yet.....
