maryann ns Posted January 9, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 9, 2013 If you can get together with other people on your Roll Call you can arrange for a group to be picked up at the airport to go to Rome and/or picked up at various hotels to go to Civitavecchia. Groups from our ship did this with driverinrome. This lowers the price considerably.

How long does it take from pier to airport? What is meant by multiple bookings? Their website is http://www.romeinlimo.com/. Jany is the absolute best to work with. She is so responsive that I questioned the guide is she was just one person. I think she works all the time. We had a 11:50am flight too. We had said wait at pier for us to disembark at 8am. We were able to get off early about 7:25am and they were there waiting early. Whisked us off to the airport quickly. I think it took about 50 min. but I really can't remember exactly. What took the longest was getting through Terminal 5 since we were flying US Air. We had several different bookings with them for our party of 9. They picked us up at the airport and took us to our apartment for our pre-cruise Rome stay; they arranged for a guide to meet us at the Vatican museum for our 6 hr. tour of the Vatican museum and St. Peters; we arranged an all day 12 hour tour to go to Pompeii/Sorrento/Herculaneum since our cruise did not stop there and we wanted to go there; and they also arranged transportation from apartment to ship with a detour to Castello de Odescalchi at Bracciano before delivering to the check-in tent at the ship for embarkation. We were VERY pleased. Always professional, prompt and great to work with. All the drivers were wonderful and helpful.

wantocruisemore Posted January 10, 2013 #19 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Thanks for the info. Did you disembark taking off your own luggage? I am worried because of early flight, sometimes ships delay disembarkation for whatever reason. Last T/A we took the ship's transfer but it was more expensive. We walked off at first call with our own luggage. The Navigator docks at 5am but it sometimes takes awhile to for customs to clear the ship for debarkation. There were ones on our cruise we met who we saw at the airport for their 11:05 departure. I think they just made it because as soon as we got to the gates at Terminal 3 we saw them standing in line to board. I really would not book anything earlier than 11:50am and even then still do your own disembakation with luggage and have a reliable car waiting for you. I would rather spend the money for the private transport than be so rushed dragging luggage and panicking about making the flight. Not a relaxing way to end a cruise. Are you looking at American carriers or European? If American based, you need to also go through Terminal 5 before shuttling to Terminal 3. We booked thru Choice Air on AA. supposedly they will only let you book if they know the flight time is appropriate. But am still concerned with the time. Have never disembarked with luggage. At least you save time looking for your luggage among thousands of others. Last year we took ship's transfer and that was a hassle, getting luggage and finding bus but we had a late flight so we didn't have to worry about missing flight. I am confused about your statement re terminals 3 and 5. We flew AA last year and don't remember shuttling. But I'm always anxious when flying so may have forgotten. euro cruiser Posted January 10, 2013 #21 Share Posted January 10, 2013 All you need to know is Terminal 5. That's where you go, after that the airport takes care of moving you around. At Terminal 5, in the first room you will wait on line for an ID check. After that, you pass on to the second room, where you will wait on line again to check your luggage and receive your boarding pass. Then you pass into the third room, where you'll wait on line to go through security. After security you'll go through passport control, and pass into the fourth room, which is a waiting area. From here you'll board an airport bus that will drive you out to the "pod" gates. You don't actually go into Terminal 3 at all, but directly out to the gates (which are associated with Terminal 3, but in a completely separate building). Since the search feature on this board is back, try using that to find info on Roma Limo. I have noticed that there are several companies that have their names similar to Rome in Limo to try to benefit from RIL's stellar reputation. Also do a search on Trip Advisor. If you do not see lots of great reviews, play it safe and go with one of the companies that are highly recommended on this board. Don't take chances trying to save a couple of euros. Hi PGHFlyer, or anyone else familiar with Rome area transport, Are the 8-14 Euro/couple shuttle buses run by private companies? Are there specific companies that are better than others, and how long do they generally take to fill up? It seems that with 2 people, this is half the price of the express train or airport shuttle--am I reading this right? Are there many stairs at Civitavecchia station? We don't have mobility problems, but will have big suitcases. Also, is there an option other than walking to get from the train station to the port, and vice versa? Thanks! I didn't see many being recommended so didn't post any particular names. I can't speak for your other questions, sorry.
