Rare BillOh Posted January 17, 2013 #26 Share Posted January 17, 2013 We always meet lots of great people, and cruises are some of the best places to "people watch". Great idea for a thread. We have met a lot, a few remain "facebook friends" years later. I do have one strong memory from our first cruise. We had a wonderful time and we were in the windjammer for that sad final breakfast. Another couple saw my shirt which gave indication of where we were from, invited us to sit down at their table. It was crowded and they were from the same area. It made for nice conversation. They were staying on board for a B2B/TA. We have never heard of a back to back or a Trans Atlantic, so it was quite interesting. I think that motivated us to sit at the end of tables in the windjammer so others could sit as well. Your right its great people watching. I've seen hundreds of really goofy, oblivious, or just plain dumb people, but from a far you can just laugh and move on.
Rare BillOh Posted January 17, 2013 #27 Share Posted January 17, 2013 I met Shrek. He looks just like he does in the movies. :D Now that you mention it, I nearly mowed down the big hippo character on the running deck on Allure, she was going the wrong way on her way up to the Aqua theater in the back of the ship. HokiePoq Posted January 17, 2013 #28 Share Posted January 17, 2013 Great thread! I was looking for someone from Jewel of the Seas to say Anne and Michael from Ireland. Wonderful couple and it seemed everyone on the ship knew them. They seemed to be in every scene on the highlight video. On NCL we met a New York couple who've written 13 books between them. We got to reconnect with them on another cruise in December. On HAL we got to know Mama Lou who lived on the Veendam. She'd been a British pilot in WWII and was the widow of a US Admiral. Living on the ship sure beat assisted living! She'd go out in the ports with her walker and have a great time onboard, too.

Smokey Mountain Tim Posted January 17, 2013 #31 Share Posted January 17, 2013 Had a tablemate once who we surmised was a big-wig at NASA. He didn't boast about, we could just tell by certain comments. Wouldn't even let us know his last name. The last night of the cruise my wife was able to to see his name on his sea pass card and when we got home I googled it: found out he was the Deputy Director of NASA. Drunkard of the Seas Posted January 17, 2013 #34 Share Posted January 17, 2013 damn i was hoping to see a bunch of posts about me! lol this guy has been my favorite so far: on the same cruise we had this couple around our age from ny and one of thier cousins and her husband from greece as our tablemates. really fun people, we had some good times like making fun how uptight the other people at the table were. the greek couple spoke little english but i would usually run into the husband at the casino and that was always a good laugh between us with no words understood by anyone lol. i regret not staying in touch with them. my first cruise we had this couple that were former tennis pros (or semi pros, cant remember) -Roger
murfturf Posted January 17, 2013 #35 Share Posted January 17, 2013 We met a couple in their 60's right when we got on board, and the funny thing is we were walking around waiting for last departure they were also the last people we talked to on the ship since they were doing a B2B. He had claimed to be Tom Selleck's stunt double (although a IMDB search didn't show his name - which I have since forgotten!) He had many, many interesting stories about Hollywood in the 70's and his super nice prim and proper wife just listened and nodded as he told these crazy stories. MrCruzeaddict Posted January 17, 2013 #36 Share Posted January 17, 2013 I was setting at the Pool Bar on the Vision of the Seas a few years back. I turned around in my chair and the comedian David Brenner was setting next to me having a drink. I found out that he was doing a couple of shows in the show lounge and then getting off of the ship the next day. A real nice guy. Rare BillOh Posted January 17, 2013 #37 Share Posted January 17, 2013 Great thread! I was looking for someone from Jewel of the Seas to say Anne and Michael from Ireland. Wonderful couple and it seemed everyone on the ship knew them. That reminds me of a memorable couple from Northern Ireland who were at our table on Jewel. It was on the cruise during the 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking. They both had family who had helped build Titanic. There was a ceremony on the way to Cozumel at the appropriate time. Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted January 18, 2013 #43 Share Posted January 18, 2013 We always meet lots of great people, and cruises are some of the best places to "people watch". We met a couple on the Explorer of the Seas 2011 Thanksgiving cruise named Ken & Rachel. Beautiful couple who were always dancing and wearing matching outfits. I mean everything matched from hats, scarfs, clothes ect... Rachel apparently makes most of their clothes. They cruise all the time and I'm told brought 12 suitcases on that sailing! We have sailed with this couple, too, on our Enchantment of the Sea cruise out of Baltimore. It must make it easier for them to cruise from the east coast with all of those suitcases. LOL. Sadly on our cruise with this couple the woman injured her foot while she was dancing on the deck. I was sitting beside her near the pool. It looked to me as if she had stubbed her toe on the deck. But, later that night she was in a wheelchair--and she used it for the rest of the cruise. [must have broken or sprained her foot] They still dressed alike--but, he danced with other women.

Riggy84 Posted January 18, 2013 #47 Share Posted January 18, 2013 That lady that tried for 7 days to snatch my husband. Didn't work, and she went home alone. That's nothing. I met a guy who spent the entire evening on the last night telling me my hubby was no good for me even though he'd never met him. He then proceeded to give me his cabin number and told me to be there in an hour. I partied on the top deck with some crazy South African's instead!! Let'sGo! Posted January 18, 2013 #48 Share Posted January 18, 2013 Ricky Nelson's sons were the entertainment on one of our cruises. My husband went to one of their impromptu "jam" sessions and ended up playing guitar with them on several occasions. He still keeps in touch with one of them (though I honestly don't know which one is which). Ann
Alexat2 Posted January 19, 2013 #49 Share Posted January 19, 2013 Years ago on the Marco Polo (Orient Lines), I was at the same table as "Margaret" she was one of the hat makers for the Royal Family (England). She was an absolute hoot! She had a wicked sense of humor and the best stories. Lydia
