Navigator - At Sea. What To Do?

Ok, this might seem like a stupid question to some, but here goes: I have only ever sailed RCI in the Caribbean, and only on the smaller ships. I am the Dancing Queen (ABBA wrote a song about me... ;)), so it's a not a question of what I've been doing on all those At Sea Days. (I've been dancing by the pool). But, in May, I'll be taking my 81 yo grandmother to the Med, and I have no idea of what kinds of things there might be going on that she would be interested in.

I've noticed this ship has an ice rink and I asume there are shows. She has never been on a trip like this (or any trip at all) and has a million questions. I have no answers here.

What kinds of At Sea Day things can we/she expect on this trip?

Would you suggest Anytime/Mytime Dining?

Jenny, the at sea days are going to be just like the at sea days you have had on your other cruises. There's an ice show. That might be different.

When we took my mom on a cruise at 82, thankfully, she brought a friend and we met up at dinner. They went to the casino, she went to the spa once. They went to bed early, we stayed up late.

It is highly unlikely that there are special things for her to do. Mom is 85 now. We would not take her on a cruise, especially by herself.

Like any other age, it depends on what she likes.

They'll be trivia, bingo, shoes in the theatre and 1-2 ice shows as well, a piano man in schooners in the evenings, games and parties by the pool, etc.

Like someone else said--it is pretty similar to in the Caribbean. Difference are that there will be more multi lingual things--the Navigator has a high percentage of Italian cruisers so sometimes they offer a game or trivia only in Italian--which will be noted on the compass.

Many people find Med cruises exhausting--they really want to see the port and tend to have long days out when the ship is docked. This often results in the few sea days being days to relax and not do much of anything for many people.

If she likes people watching you can sit by the promenade

Besides just being with the family, that is actually one of my mother's favorite things to do on a cruise. She loves to be at the Cafe Promenade and people watch. She also seems to meet tons of people to talk to there. She always seems to be missing something when we are on a ship without a Royal Promenade.

If she play cards (things like bridge), she may be able to up with some other card players. As others have said there is the usual things that they do in the Caribbean. However on our Med cruise on the Brilliance, they also included port talks. These were not the typical shopping talks you find in the Caribbean, but a look into the history of the port etc. They were very interesting and enhanced our experience.

Also, since the Med cruises are very port intense (with some excursions lasting all day) having sea days was a nice way to recover. In fact that is why I settled on the cruise we did, it went to the ports we really wanted to see, but they were split by some sea days which let us to rest up.

Thank you so much for the replys. Vision Class are the largest RCI boats I've been on. I have no idea what to expect from Navigator.

I usually go for the more port intensive iteneraries because I hate At Sea Days, but selected this one because it was easier for her.

Since passing my Dancing Queen Crown down to the younger crowd a few birthdays ago, I'm not sure that I'm gonna know what to do with all the At Sea Days myself, so thank you for the input. :)

For me The best thing about sea days is just relaxing and doing nothing till the evening

But they will have a movie

The ice rink should be open for skating.

There wll some type of entertainment or contest near the pool

Maybe a BBQ as well for lunch.

The casino is open as are the shops

Promenade great place to people watch

Should be some type of learn to dance or something

Trivia

Bingo

I have to admit that I'm kind of excited about the promenade. I'm assuming it will be similar to a Vegas Casino. I didn't realize it was a place to just hang out. :)

More like a mall than a casino. Shops, a pub, an eating venue, and lots of people strolling. The casino is one deck below.
