vickila Posted February 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 25, 2013 According to Capt. Olav 2/13, once it goes in for refurbishing, it will be major and will not return to Bayonne. Thus some other ship (Quantum class)?? is coming to replace it. However, the Quantum class would require a new permanent terminal being constructed and at present this terminal is only leased -- not owned by RC -- which is the reason for the tent/bus situation. The EX is a beautiful ship and they are always maintaining. Yes, it does need refreshing in some areas, but the crew and staff more than make up for this. Be careful what you wish for -- have you seen the pricing on the new NCL Breakaway?!! Vicki:)

There is yet another debate raging in another thread as to what will happen after Explorer goes for it's refit. BTW, the refit date on the RCCL website basically says TBD. Vicki:) The actual structure is an old warehouse (Masonry Brick with a timber truss roof) which was slightly retrofitted into a waiting room. The tent is to protect you from the elements of the weather while entering and departing the structure.

Jenna Posted February 26, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 26, 2013 Does anyone know if it is getting stretched? I want to eventually book a cruise for summer of 2014 (obviously not yet, but I wouldn't want to book it too soon before the dry docking incase my room number changes). I feel like it wouldn't, as explorer is pretty big already, but where else would they be putting all of the new restaurants, etc?

They learned their lesson with Rhapsody, and are not changing existing stateroom number, even when they add staterooms to other Vision class shops. CAT GIRL Posted March 23, 2014 #18 Share Posted March 23, 2014 If the word on the street is right then the Explorer will be headed to Asia. Sounds about right because it would then go through major changes. I just got off the Mariner and it is totally geared to the Asian market with high end jewelry and liquor shops. The disco is only on deck 3. What used to be the upper level of the disco is now more space for the casino. They put in a high rollers area and added many more tables, some blackjack, some with games I've never heard of. The high roller area had $500 minimum bets. The concierge was actually on deck 14. The old concierge lounge on deck 9 was turned into the Diamond lounge. The signage also had to be changed into Chinese. I expect them to make the same changes to the EX if and when they send her over. I also heard that a 4th ship will be going to Asia.

Topo Gigio Posted March 23, 2014 #21 Share Posted March 23, 2014 Where is the dry dock going to happen? Looks like Grand Bahama Shipyard. Last cruise out of PC ends on Mar 12, so my educated guess is that she will go for a 4-5 weeks dry dock-like Navigator- followed by a TA to Southampton after this. I would say around April 10 she will start her TA, because she is showing on the Madeira schedule for April 27 (or 28) coming from Southampton. So 11-25April from Miami(or Port Everglades) to Southampton and then 2 days down to Madeira. This is was I figured out.
