Condolences for those sailing this week

Recommended Posts

Half kidding half serious. Most of the SEC and schools in the southeast is on spring break this week. My daughter and 50 of her sorority sisters are sailing on the Jewel.

We made the mistake of going the first week of March two years ago and . We enjoyed the cruise, but it was a wild ride compared to the usual relaxation.

Have fun CC friends :)

We leave on April 7th on the Freedom OTS....I am so crossing my fingers that it will be 1000 children and not 2000 children. We are coming from California and we are doing the nephews Spring Break. Wish us LUCK...PLEASE!!

Getting on Oasis in a few hours and I can't wait.

School breaks basically run from February till the end of March for grade school to colleges in Canada and the States. It is the season.

We sailed on Allure during Brazilian summer holidays this January and on Oasis for July 4th so I don't think it could get any crazier, kid and adult wise. We also were on a cruise that had 500 Quinceaneras on board, Oasis again. Coming from Canada I found the whole idea to be culturally interesting. I am on board, that is all that really matters to me:D

To be fair though I bet there is an influx on the smaller ships that is noticeable. For those who dread it good luck (no sarcasm), and I hope you have great times and lots of fun!!

Leaving Monday on the Monarch. I am so nervous! I thought it would be a handful of students.

I am just a few years out if college, but I know one thing if you cruise in college you do it on a budget = Monarch. It will be pretty wild.

Last March we cruised out of Baltimore which wasn't an issue with spring breakers because it was a 9 day. I think we had a handful, but that was it. It was when we got to Key West and Nassau that it was evident. We left Key West around 9 pm so just before we boarded, the streets were bombarded with drinking college kids. But, Nassau was worse. We went to Senor Frogs to get lunch-we wanted tacos and it was packed with 18-22 year olds. A lot of 18-20 year olds who could legally drink there and believe me, they were. Senor Frogs does "contests" for shots so it was crazy. We'll see how it is for us next week, but most college kids I know are on break this week and we dont' leave til next Friday so hopefully San Juan and St Thomas won't be overrun.

When you have kids, you don't really have a choice! My kids are so spread apart, we couldn't do the take a week off school because at least one of them was in Middle School or High School or College and couldn't miss! Also my son does sports and academic competitions almost every weekend. When they were all little, we couldn't afford to cruise! On Freedom Sunday - hoping it's just a bunch of kids, not so much the rowdy College kids, and if there are rowdy ones they'd better not mess with my 19 yo daughter, her daddy might get arrested the ship for throwing a frat boy overboard ;)

We took our first cruise last month on the Majesty of the Seas - probably known for a younger crowd due to the cost and shorter trips. There were about 300 Quinceaneras from Argentina on board. Very noticeable on the smaller ship.

For the first couple days, I just couldnt figure it out. Here were a TON of young girls, dressed in a way I would expect American 15 year olds probably are discouraged from, running around with just a few mid-20s year old MALE chaparones. Took me a couple days, and some Internet time, to figure out what the group was all about. Was interesting once I learned, and saw, how it fit into their culture.

Overall, other than crowding a few of the stairwells, most of their activities were segregated as private events for them, so it didn't cause much trouble.

It is interesting but it came from a time when girls were seen to be women at 15 and most were married by 16. It's tradition, but really an excuse to throw a big party now.

Shorter cruises are definitely a big draw for spring breakers due to cost and length. My DS and his friends almost went on a cruise in 2007 for spring break, but changed their minds and about 15 of them rented a beach house in Nags Head instead.

We were on Enchantment last year and doing it again this year. About 900 kids on board last year -- not a big problem for us. We ate at 8:30. Not many kids at that time. We are not pool people so we didn't have to worry about. And kids are not allowed in the casino! Just enjoy your trip!

That is the attitude I need to have! Besides, I'll probably be on a different sleep schedule than most of them!

We leave on the Jewel this week (with my 7 and 9 year old) .....50 of oher sorrority sisters?!

Spring Break is the only time we could cruise this year with our schedules (I am a teacher). I figured the ship would have a lot of families this week I did not think there would be a lot of Spring Breakers.

I honestly don't mind as long as they behave and RC controls them, if necessary, and doesn't let things get too out of hand. Hey, I was in a sorrority and had four wild Spring Breaks throughout college but would never have thought of going on a cruise?! Interesting..... we may be back to cruising during Thanksgiving.

On a side note, on my very last Carnival cruise there was a very large group (at least 50) of mentally challenged/special needs adults. Some of them were the loudest, obnoxiously drunk, most out of control bunch I have ever seen...and did I mention my 4 wild college Spring Breaks?!:eek:

Taking my daughter on Spring break cruise in a couple of hours. Wife can't go. I figure there will be more kids than parents on the Disney cruise.

Texas Spring Break week is upon us college and most public and private schools k-12.

Glad I enjoyed the small crown on Disney Magic in October and now will watch daughter have a last. We've been to a family beach house at South Padre Island a few Spring Break weeks and always see lots of craziness.

These next two weeks are the biggest college spring break weeks. Next week there are approx. 2.6 million college students on break. The week after is only 1.8 million.;):p

Wife and I are just home form Jewel last week there were quite a few college spring breakers on board and just want to coment on how well behaved they were! wife and I are 38/39 yo and we would see these kids all over the ship and everytime they were being very respectful to everyone even sitting at the bars and chatting it up with people 2-3 times their age! I told my wife how impress I was with them and she agreed. BTW when you are on Jewel next week go to the Schooner bar and tell the bartender Mehiella (she is form Romania) the Todd and Kelly from St. Louis said hello! She was the most friendly bartender we have ever met on a cruise!

We did this exact cruise a few years ago and were pleasantly surprised... Yes, there were tons of college kids onboard but...

1. They were up late at night but slept late in the morning... Small crowds for breakfast:)

2. Late morning rising meant a good choice of pool chairs but also meant that once they were up they literally took over the pool area... We simply moved at that time...

3. Bartenders were hyper-vigilant about checking ID and we witnessed many of them requesting a DL... Especially on that first day...

4. They took Formal Night and dress suggestions very seriously... I have no preference either way, just thought it was interesting...

5. Shows weren't very well attended by kids so great seats available...

6. Great opportunities to watch "runners" in Nassau... Some of the best laughs we had all week... Also enjoyed overhearing a few calling parents for money on the first 2 days as they quickly learned they hadn't budgeted enough money for booze:)

We were fortunate... No problems with excessive hallway noise at night... Only saw a couple of passed out kids on the pool deck early morning... All in all, we were nervous too but ended up enjoying our cruise as part of a handful of folks over 25....

Kind of surprised college spring breakers would go on Royal Caribbean... we went on Carnival - RC was WAY too expensive and had always been known to be a little more relaxed.

I can't imagine it would be TOO bad.

There's 2 kinds of Spring Breakers. There's the college spring breakers loud, partier s and then grade school spring breakers with their families.

Spring Break this next week I think will be mostly college age. It's still a week or so too early for the public schools spring breaks to start.

I was on the Jewel last week and thought it seemed like the geriatric cruise. I was shocked at the amount of old people. I was cruising with my 70 year old mother and she even seemed young for the average age on the Jewel last week!

Which is why we do not cruise in March. Only month of the year I refuse to cruise.
