How far is cruise port from corfu town?

were taking rci greek isles cruise outof venice in september . Rci's excursions are so expensive so im trying to figure out other things to do. How far is the cruise port from corfu town? Is it walking distance or do we have to take a cab?

 

Rci has tours that go around the island i dont know if they would be worth it or should we just walk around the old town ourselves?

 

Any advice?

It is a mile or so from the Cruise terminal to Corfu Town. Level walking, with sidewalk all the way. Sidewalk is a little rough in places, but not a big problem. Just exit the port and turn left. Keep the water to your left until you reach Corfu Town.

 

There is also a public bus running back & forth.

I would try to plan something there. There is not a whole lot to see in the town.

We were in Corfu last year.....took the ship's shuttle service into town. Then we wandered on our own. It's a lovely town. We enjoyed it. You can definitely do it on your own.

One idea for Corfu is to simply rent a car and drive yourself around the island (or part of the island). There are several rental car companies that have cars right at the port and the prices can be quite inexpensive. On our last visit we paid less then 50 Euros for a car and had a great day exploring the island. With 4 in a car this means a full day tour of the island would be less then 20 Euros per person (have to buy gas). We also had no problem finding free parking in Corfu Town where we spent some time later in the day. Driving on Corfu is quite easy as there is very little traffic outside of Corfu Town.

Just came back from Ruby Princess Greek Isles cruise. For Corfu, we spent a few hours in the Old Town area which is around 1.5 to 2.0 miles from the port.

 

No shuttle was offered by Princess but there was a No. 16 city bus that run frequently from inside the port to the edge of Old Town (next to the new fortress) for 1.5 Euro each way. We used it to save the walking for around town instead.

We plan on renting a car from Sunshine which is right across from the cruise terminal. I think it is around $75. We are touring the island than returning to old town.

For bus stop information, ask for a detail street and bus route map from the driver of the No. 16 bus. Make sure you have plenty of time, as the No. 10 bus only operates hourly.

Although it is only a short walk from the ship, the day we done it the weather was clear sky and temps into the 80's. By the time we arrived my wife was really tired and we just ambled around before returning to the boat very tired but having not really done anything. This was a big disappointment for me as I had seen Corfu back in the eighties and remembered it being a beautiful Island.

 

We are returning there again this year and I am organising a private tour of the island. It's a shame to go to such a place and not get to see the "real thing".
