Rare Lois R Posted July 18, 2017 #2226 Share Posted July 18, 2017 For those who have previously gone solo on a cruise, what did you enjoy and did you meet others who were solo? It would be nice to meet up with others but not sure how to. Looking forward to my cruise but also want to make sure i have a great time. Cruising August 13 out of New Orleans! the countdown has begun I have been cruising solo for 14 years and going again in August:D.....what do I enjoy? EVERYTHING......if I want to participate in activities and/or go on excursions I will.......if I want to do nothing at all except read, lay on a lounger and take a nap, I will........and I will do it all when I want:D and I love being pampered.......having my meals cooked and my cabin cleaned every day. I live on my own and I am the one who does everything for me. It is lovely having it all done while on a cruise.:) I am quite outgoing and it is very easy for me to meet people and this is just my opinion but I really don't care if I meet other solo cruisers. If folks are friendly? That is more important to me that if they are solo. Meeting other solo cruisers is not anything I look for (again, that is just me). Hope you have a great cruise:)
mya603 Posted July 19, 2017 #2227 Share Posted July 19, 2017 Go to the meet and greet. I met people there. And in the MDR. Loved the dance classes and karaoke. Do not be afraid to talk to anyone. You never know who you might meet.

Stallion Posted July 19, 2017 #2229 Share Posted July 19, 2017 (edited) Show your face early and often in places that singles your age hang out. Don't wait until the third nite to look around. For young people that means swimming pool, club and Karaoke. Make friends on your Meet and Mingle Board and on ship if they have a meet and greet. DO go to Main Dining Room assigned seating. While some cruises have been better than others, most of the people I've met in the Dining Room have been interesting and have usually bonded to create a nucleus of people you can connect with and often they are a good way to transition into the nightlife after dinner. The cruise lines do try to put people of similar age together and even if they sit you with people that aren't your perfect cup of tea they may have friends/family members that are. Its all about building a network of people that grows as the week goes on-you never know when grandma has a cute granddaughter or grandson she's eager to introduce you too. Ha! that seems to happen to me a lot. I've gone solo on about 4 of my 25 cruises and I think I've met more new people flying solo. Explorer525 Posted July 20, 2017 #2231 Share Posted July 20, 2017 Going solo on the NCL Gem September 30th to New England and Canada from Manhattan. This is a Solo discounted cruise by NCL, which according to someone I met on a solo cruise will have a lot more Solos onboard to meet. We shall see. I was on two NCL cruises with studio cabins previously and they were great. This Norwegian Gem does not have studio cabins, but I hope will work out well since it's a bargain for Solos. Inside cabins start at $869 for solo. https://www.ncl.com/cruises/7-day-canada-and-new-england-from-new-york-GEM7NYCHALSJBBHBPWMNYC?cruiseTour=1&autoPopulate=f&cruiseHotel=1&numberOfGuests=4294953450&pageSize=10&ships=4294961000&cruise=1&sortBy=Featured&from=resultPage&state=undefined¤tPage=1&cruiseHotelAir=1&itineraryCode=GEM7NYCHALSJBBHBPWMNYC

I am going on the Dream and have never been on this ship so will be fun to explore. If you are talking about the Carnival Dream -I've been on the Dream several times-there is an casual bar just off the Casino just off the main walkway that connects several nightlife venues like the Casino, then a lounge with live performances, then the Karaoke and the Dance Club across from each other and finally a larger performance venue. Its a good starting place right after dinner when people are deciding where to go or when people are getting out of a show. Great easy-going casual bar without needing to commit to any one venue. Its usually the place I start after dinner because sooner or later everybody walks by that central location. They also sometimes have a small 2 member combo. Sometimes some impromptu dancing. Here's a picture but its not a separate room-its part of the Casino/walkway. I'd make friends with the bartender and see where everybody is heading for nitelife. The Dream is a great ship for singles I think

I've been on the Gem a few times and have met some good people but it is a hit or miss as far as the number of solo's on the cruise. Sometimes it takes a few days for people to show up at the solo meeting so don't get discouraged on the first night if not too many show up. skipperanne Posted July 21, 2017 #2234 Share Posted July 21, 2017 I am doing a similar thing. Norwegian GEM on December 2 out of NYC. Low single supplement. Ten day Caribbean cruise. I hope there will be other solo travelers. I am hoping this will be a great way to escape the way too long extension of Christmas. robmac330 Posted July 25, 2017 #2237 Share Posted July 25, 2017 After realizing the trip I had booked was returning Easter weekend, thus making flight prices ridiculous, I've re-booked and will be on NCL Escape March 17, 2018. Looking forward to seeing how the math works out with 4,000 passengers + an open bar package + St. Patrick's Day + international waters

robmac330 Posted July 26, 2017 #2241 Share Posted July 26, 2017 You'll love the Escape. Great ship. UBP is the greatest. That's what I keep hearing. I had been booked on Epic for essentially the same itinerary, but when I was changing dates anyway, my sister (who works for a retail distributor that operates shops on some of the major cruise lines) told me she had heard a lot of great things about Escape from coworkers. Then when I saw the District Brew House concept, I was sold!
Midwestern Cruiser Posted July 26, 2017 #2242 Share Posted July 26, 2017 Just a quick note to Holland cruisers: If you get a 'casino offer' mailing, check it out (or maybe call and ask about it). I just booked a 7-night balcony/verandah cabin on Eurodam Nov 12 out of Ft Lauderdale, solo for $498 + $140 tax + 94.50 gratutities. Going to Grand Turk, San Juan, St Maarten and Half Moon Cay. Rare beckyboo1986 Posted August 1, 2017 #2245 Share Posted August 1, 2017 Hi all, I've booked my first cruise and I'll be travelling solo. I've booked for RCC Allure of the seas departing 1 October 2017. I'm 31 years of age, I work in finance in London and love to travel. I've wanted to do a cruise for some time as I love the idea of seeing a few countries in one trip. I am a little nervous about being one of the younger cruises and being solo however I'm fairly outgoing so hopefully people will be chatty. I'm 30 and have done solo cruises as well as cruises with groups large enough that I find myself solo at times, and I've mostly found that people in "vacation mode" are more than happy to chat up a stranger, I've met plenty of interesting people on these solo trips. The booze definitely helps as social lubricant as well! :beer-mug::tropical-drink::cocktail::wine-glass::champagne-toast:
