smoking in the casinos

Smoking is permitted in the casino on all Royal ships. There are small, non-smoking slot areas but it doesn't do much good when they are right next to the smoking ones. Kind of like a non-peeing section of the pool.

Nice analogy. :)

dont want to start a heated thread - just a simple question - is smoking allowed in the RCCL casino - specifically the Oasis of the Seas? if yes - is there a non smoking section in the casino?

Yes, there is a smoking area on Oasis in the casino.

Yes, there are non smoking sections in the casino on Oasis as well.

To be perfectly honest, you seldom see anyone smoking in the casino...and I know, because I'm a smoker. You get treated like a leper and to me, it's just easier to step outside. I must not be the only one. I'm rarely seen anyone smoking in the casino and in answer to the question, there is no smoking on the two formal nights in the Casino.

Funny you use the 'L" word. We have a public building near where we live that has a designated smoking area located outside the building. It has become known as the 'Leper Colony." Kind of funny. But the truth is that many folks will walk out of their way just to keep their distance.

I have seen smokers using the casino as a smoking area.

Yes. Half the casino on Oasis Class is non-smoking.

The Oasis and Allure are broken into two separate casinos which are identical.

One is non smoking, the other is smoking.

This isn't exactly accurate. It is not 2 separate casinos. It's one large casino that is smoking on one side and non smoking on the other. There is no separation. It is pretty fresh near the entrance on the non smoking side, but toward the center of the room, you start to smell the smoke from the other side and the bar, of course, is on the smoking side.

Well, having been there, done it, I disagree with you. There is a LARGE separation between the two casino areas.

When you walk in, the bar area takes up the entire middle of the large casino. Go right, it is smoking. Go left, it is non smoking. And that large bar separates the two, and once you are in the non smoking casino AREA, you will not be bothered by smoke.

And as far as I am concerned, it was two separate casino areas. But what the heck, let's pick some nits and get an argument going.

Although I am a very experienced cruiser, I tend not to post here very often. Just too much bad info and lot of confrontation.

On this thread, a question was asked, and a number of responses were made, of which not one of the responses provided anything accurate or helpful.

Too many here just like to respond to questions without providing anything helpful whatsoever. I will go back to lurker mode.

No, sorry, I am not interested in arguing.

You're entitled to your opinion and also having been there, done that (3 times), I don't think the separation is as defined as you indicate.

That is probably a good idea because you are the only one who gave false info on this thread - and now you are getting angry over being corrected. The others did help by answering the op accurately. Your claim there are "2 separate casinos" is not true, plain and simple. There is only one casino - one side is smoking and the other side is non smoking.

As you walk in, there is a bar. Extending from the bar towards the back is a large wall, a separation. On the left side, no smoking. Go to the right, smoking. Both areas are identical. OK, let's call them 2 areas of the casino, not two casinos if that will make you happy.

Side left and side right are identical layouts, separated by a wall. If you are on one side, you cannot even see through to the other side.

As I stated, if you go left to the non smoking area, that AREA of the ONE CASINO, the NON SMOKING AREA (OK not the NON SMOKING CASINO) the NON SMOKING AREA of the casino, you will not be bothered by smoke because almost the entire NON SMOKING AREA of the ONE CASINO is almost completely separate from the SMOKING AREA (NOT THE NON SMOKING CASINO).

There is no other comparable casino set up on any other cruise ship that I know of. Correct me if I am wrong.

I think you're being unduly harsh on posters on this thread. All have tried to be subjective, accurate & helpful*, and any apparent inaccuracy or contradiction is to do with the posters' own perceptions of the effects of smoking on others.

It's clear from the many heated threads on the subject that it's much more of an issue to some non-smokers than to others, so the OP will have to gauge from the information given by posters whether it will be an issue for them.

So, no heated debate on this thread about smoking.:)

Instead, perhaps we'll have a heated debate about helpfulness. :D

The OP asked if there was a “non smoking section” on the Oasis.

To answer the question – yes, what I would consider a fully functioning casino or casino area that does not allow smoking.

Here are some of the other responses to the OP.

Reply # 2 – somewhat helpful, suggests to post on the RCI board

Reply #3 – “There are small, non-smoking slot areas which is totally incorrect on the Oasis or Allure.

Reply #5 – Posts a picture of a Holland America casino smoking area.

Reply #8 – suggests to go on the Celebrity Cruise line.

Reply #10 – Office buildings you go outside

Reply #11 – Poster has seen smokers using the casino as a smoking area.

Reply #17 – Asserts that my information is false

Why bother?

Hi again,

#5 was totally up-front about it being on a HAL ship. No, it wasn't "helpful" - but it did make me laugh :D

Like the café owner who asked customers if they wanted a non-smoking table. When a customer said yes, he obligingly put a "No Smoking" sign on their table

Yes, if you want to dissect each reply you'll find some vaguely mistaken memories & generalisations. For instance, I know that the casino on RCI ships sailing out of the UK is often no-smoking cruise-long (RCI policy, not local regulations), and they often have no-smoking evenings on other itineraries.

We can all pick holes in the efforts of others if that's our desire.

My posts (including this one) tend to include phrases such as IMHO, IIRC, when we were there, often, possibly, as a general rule, last time I was on that ship, etc - because there are folk on CC keen to chide the efforts of others.

But then I've also gotta be careful about criticising the critics - cos I sometimes criticise them myself.

Just like my criticism of your criticism :D

All of which is off-topic, for which my apologies.

But you started it, so there :D

JB :)

Some of the best information I have picked up on message boards comes from comments that don't directly address the question asked. Yes, sometimes you must wade through some irrelevancies to get to the good stuff. This board is a lot more to the posters, I have observed, than just a place to get straight and stiff answers to questions. So, lighten up a bit. It's also supposed to be fun as well as a source of information.

The one thing I could do without is posts like "I don't know the answer to your question, but thanks for posting and welcome to the board!" That is a waste of time to write or read and contibutes nothing.

I said your post wasn't "exactly accurate." Anyone who has been on Oasis can probably understand what you meant (I did), but for those who haven't, it might not be so clear. Casino Royale on Oasis is one venue, not "2 separate casinos" as you said. That's all I was saying.

The problem here isn't a matter of correction. My first post, quoting you, was not meant to be contentious. You obviously do not like to be contested with an altering opinion. Relax, this isn't worth getting so upset over.

LA CAL GAL, I do agree that you more accurately answered the OP. I have also noticed on other RCCI ships I have been on that have smoking bars that they also have extremely efficient ventilation systems.

I am curious, did you notice any difference in the amount of activity in the two separate areas, smoking vs. nonsmoking?

On my Oasis and Allure cruises, I did not see much difference between the smoking or non-smoking sections. I would say however, the non smoking side seemed to be a bit more crowded, but not by a lot.
