Royal Caribbean Bans Smoking on Balconies

I thought that the evil weed could be smelled from miles away (judging by some of the posts on here) so why would the non-smokers not detect 'a long tunnel of smoke' before they are in it?

But you can bet your last dollar/pound that there will be non smokers who will say...but we when we paid for our cruise we were not aware we could only use one side of the ship to walk along for fresh air.

I try to avoid sitting outside in the smoking areas because the looks you get and the "cough cough" from non smokers can be totally ridiculous.

Remember when Carnival banned smoking in cabins. The smokers were revolting and would never sale Carnival again. They seemed to have survived. I can't figure out why smoking is so important that it controls someone's life so much but, I do know people that it does.

THANK YOU ROYAL CARRIBEAN.

I agree, can not believe people are saying they will cancel cruises or switch to an inside cabin just because they cant smoke on a balcony........

I'll bet they don't! A lot of gamblers smoke. They're not going to hit themselves where they make money. To me, if 2nd hand smoke is the concern, that is the first place they should ban smoking not the last. Money is the name of the game.

Celebrity's casinos have been smoke-free for years and they are hardly sitting empty. I agree that this is all about money. These changes are not being made because the suits are so concerned about our health.

On one cruise the peole in the next cabin spent much of the cruise talking and smoking on their balcony, often with friends joining them. It gave the impression that that was largely the point of the cruise and certainly was the use of the balcony.

For such people, I can understand why some might consider switching to a cruise line with rules that match their desires (though those rules are subject to change, too). I can also imaging such people deciding if they are going to spend their days on a public deck in a smoking area rather than on their deck, they might as well cut thief cabin costs by swapping to an inside.

I can. When I still smoked it controlled my life. It dictated where I went, how quickly I ate so I could run out for a smoke. We avoided excursions with long bus rides where we could not smoke for long periods of time. The idea of getting on an airplane where I could not smoke for hours at a time made me a wreck! And Heaven help you if you made faces at me for smoking or lectured me on how it would kill me (no kidding, never heard that!).

That was then. I am now just about three years smoke free and its amazing the amount of freedom it has given me.

Please do not change your charming, formal profile picture to a new one in a onesie.

Oh thank you for your kind words :o

Don't worry any pics of me in a onesie will be restricted...I wouldn't want to upset any CC members :D Although I believe you can get custom made onesies..ummm...now that could be fun in the mornings :D

Is it Shrek, is it Panda, is it a Penguin.....no it is just Liz from CC in her specially made onesie out on deck for a ciggie :D

The same way they ignore it when they choose to use the casino. Oh, there are complaints, but they still voluntarily go in there:eek:

lol but isn't it funny how some non smokers sit in the smoking areas and complain about the smoke never understood that:confused:

(a non smoker for the last eight months)

I've never known a "non smoker" who makes a point of sitting in a smoking area.......

Have never been called a mole before.:o

MOLE! MOLE! :D:D Couldn't resist. I admit I did wonder when reading your original thread if you sat around in your robe reading FAQ's all night.:cool:Teasing!

I like the new policy.

I do not support a total ban on smoking, but I do think we will eventually see "outside, designated areas only." A total ban on inside smoking will come eventually.

E-CIGS:

I enjoy e-cigs occasionally when we vacation (I quit smoking 20 years ago or so). It is a fun way to be oh so bad! They are water vapor, but some have slight odors (smoke one in a car with the windows up around honest non-smokers and they can fill you in). The flavored e-cigs are the ones that you can smell the most. Vanilla, cherry, etc. I can understand the ban based on that plus the impression that it is a real cigarette. Militant, Larry Hagman-esq non-smokers will complain until THEY can't breath when they see you puff away inside. As a company, you just don't want to deal with that.

I am sure e-cig smokers will just smile and keep smoking away in the cabin, on the balcony, in the bathroom . . . no one will ever know.

you've got to be kiddding. All of you non-smokers bitched about smoking on the balcony. Now, you are worried some one will break the rules and smoke. You are wondering if you should say something or report them. When is enough enough. I hope i never see you drinking too much, unsteady on your feet, slurring your words. I will have to find the booze police. Give it a rest.

*like* a lot!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

For me the issue is the mornings and late evenings. If they put a ban on balcony smoking from 9:00AM to 8:00PM, it wouldn't bother me at all. It just would be a real hassle to get dressed and go find a smoking section in the middle of the night. I probably won't book anymore RCI cruises after my next one in October for that reason (yes, I am that addicted).

I've heard the haven suites on NCL are really nice and they treat gamblers better than RCI as well, they just have really limited Caribbean itineraries for the times I like to sail so I never really considered them. I've gotten a few free cruise offers from them through my casino host at Foxwoods before, but never got around to using them.

However, if my niece gives me the puppy face and insists on an RCI cruise, I would probably suck it up and book one for her sake and just use e-cigs in the cabin.

I say we meet in our pajamas! It'll be fun! Then we can get double dirty looks! LOL!

That's what I plan to do. I'll cruise NCL unless my friend pulls her puppy face. Then I'll suck it up and use e-cigs. First in the morning and last in the evening is my issue too. I'll live. I just won't be as happy!

Freedoms? Smokers are not a protected class under the Constitution...sorry

May I assume that you are a constitutional attorney, Supreme Court Justice, or some other legal "MAVEN" as the basis for your opinion? The constitution is a living document that is subject to change and interpretation.
