Scattered Rum Runners

If you pack and scatter your items, and get sent to the naughty room...do they go thru your entire luggage and confiscate everything, or just what they zoomed in on?

In other words, if one thing is found....is every area of your luggage then searched?

I've used them on all my cruises. Never been caught.

No, they do not. ;)

Depends on what you feel is embarrassing. If they confiscate an item you think is worth risking, then you still get your bed to sleep in, your clothes, and they still feed you every day. You just have to go to a room somewhere from my understanding, and they keep your item, you are not paraded around with a sign around your neck or anything.

We enjoyed being able to legally bring on a couple of bottles of wine to enjoy in our cabin last trip. I think being stopped from having a drink in your room on your lovely balcony, as was the case on our first trip, is a very draconian policy. To buy a bottle of wine at dinner and have it kept in the dining room is just silly in our opinion. I know some people are stupid and overdo it. Why should we have less enjoyment of our trip because of their bad behavior?

No, I don't NEED a drink to enjoy myself, and yes I can buy a great variety on board, but we have a brand or two that we enjoy consuming, and some of the brands on the ship are not to our taste.

A trip to the Naughty Room is more entertaining than embarrassing. All of your bags are not confiscated, only one(s) which they feel may have something suspicious. You are escorted when looking for the bag they held back. My escort immediately said to me that they had found alcohol in my bag. There was no alcohol, but a couple of bottles of water that I didn't leave at the hotel and a 12-pk of diet cokes. Security examined the water bottles for a seal and gave them a shake and returned all to me. But there was luggage everywhere in rooms, under stairwells, in hallways.

I thought you could take your wine from dining room to your cabin now days

Correct, you can take wine to your cabin. However, if you take wine that your brought on board to the dining room, they may charge you a fee.

IMHO--if you can afford all the cruises you have listed, you certainly can afford to buy drinks on the ship and save your self the embarrassment of getting caught smuggling booze. remember this is IMHO only.

i am fish tales and i approve of this message...

I don't smuggle - It's not worth the hassle for me as we just don't drink that much. But I think a lot of folks smuggle for the convenience of having it in their cabin. Yes some do it to save money.

I think if RCI allowed you to buy a bottle for your cabin, even at an inflated price (ie an acceptable mark up) you would see a lot of the smuggling go away.

This, of course, is just my opinion. :p

I bought 2 little bottles of wine to use in our precruise hotel. Found out I had concierge room, and had free drinks. Never thought, put the 2 mini wine in the luggage, they kept my suitcase. Could not look for it until after dinner. Had to sign a receipt for the wine, then they promptly lost it - took an hour to find it as we were leaving the ship. Could not leave it behind, the key set off a notice to the attendant, and they could not allow us to get off with an outstanding issue. Almost lost my flight over wine I had to toss anyway, because I could not take it on the plane- should have had a drink in the taxi to the airport at 10am!! Next time, I will just buy a drink at the bar!!

Sorry but you got the wrong person. That was UNV-IT.

I agree with what you said. I just think the cruise lines should try to accommodate the folks who would like the option of having drinks in their cabin at their convenience. However, they will never be able to accommodate the cheap ones as they will always try to smuggle just to save a buck.

They will only pull the bag they have a question about. They do not go about matching up peoples luggage.

I don't use rum runners anymore but when I did, they never picked up on them. When I did put them in luggage, I would make sure that particular suitcase had nothing at all that might raise suspicion. I wouldn't even put a bottle of mouthwash, or large toiletries bottles.

Back before the wine was allowed and I had two bottles of wine in my suitcase and was called down, they asked if I had a bottle of wine in my bag and when I said yes, they said they needed to confiscate it and could I open the bag and give it to them. Stupid me dug deep and gave up both bottles. I asked if I could have them back before disembarkation and they said no (this was out in San Diego in 2009 or maybe 2010). I was really annoyed since at the time, we never had a problem sailing out of the east coast with wine in our luggage and if you did you always got it back the last night. I had just come from a wine tasting and they were very expensive. grrrrrr
