Since it is still in the middle of the night where you are, that has given me a chance to read back a bit. I thank you all who are trying to save my minutes and I appreciate those who requested that they keep the questions brief and not quote the very long threads and photos. Im not sure whether or not i have already answered some of the questions before they were asked, so just left me give some information = personal. YUK I hate this keyboard! Things are not where they should be.

1. The fitness center has only two recumbants, but there are 24 treadmills. Everything is so new with tv and treadmills having touch screens. It just takes longer to do what used to be easy peasy

2. We have not yet been to a dining room. Eventually. HC and Bistro serves our purposes well. At least mine The big eater. LOL

3. Our cabin is great; comfy with no problems. Toilets working well thus far. Dont mind small balcony because it serves its purpose. Of course it needs to get a little warmer, but Mike was out there just before we got off the ship and he was enjoying his book for a while. Weather has warmed up and rain clouds have disappeared.

4. Elevators have been working well and are very quick in arriving. At least the forward ones are

5. Another fitness center thought. They must have built this with an afterthought because they sure didnt make it easy to find.

6. Cant understand why they need Celebrations.

7. Coffee. Fresh brewed at the IC is far better than on any other ship. This morning I got my coffee there and then later when we went to breakfast in HC I had some of theirs. Quite a change from other Princess sludge, but definitely not the same as you get at the cafe. I tasted one, then the other. I drink black so get the full taste. Dont faint people, but there is a chance I may drink the HC coffee. So far my coffeemaker is still in a drawer.

8. Havent located Alfredos yet, but really didnt look for it. Also havent been into casino, and thats a good thing

9. Internet cafe is very small, but thats fine because the majority of people have their own stuff anyway. Except when they dont work.

10. The art decorating the corridors is beautiful. Some of our CC folks are amazingly talented. I saw one this morning of Moscow and recognized the name of some I know. That made it extra special.

11. Only peeked into shops; really dont care much for shopping.

12. Mike got his Cinque Terre polo. Those who know him also know how important a purchase this was.

Going to end this now and walk around town a bit. I will return when I can and if there are any specific questions, maybe someone can bunch them for me.

David, I know you will be doing web cams as always. And Dave, you are always so helpful.

Arriverderci. Cugino Franco looking forward to seeing you soon.

Livorno

I woke up early to a fantastic thunder and lightning show, I am from the central coast of California and rarely witness this kind of weather. It was quite cool.

Yes it was not the best weather today but we had a private tour with Fabrizio (allarounditaly.net) and a fantastic time was had by all. First we headed to Siena, of course we took the back roads and saw incredible scenery along the way. Fabrizio stopped at a wonderful coffee place for a nature stop and he insisted on buying us expressos, waters, and a plethora of baked goods. The guy is so generous, he would not allow us to pay for it, and it was delicious. We had a variety of fresh pastries, I blew my diet and enjoyed every bite!

We continued on to Siena as the sky's were dark and foreboding but we all had the best positive attitudes and embraced the weather as a gift. We laughed and shared experiences and Fab entertained us with his extensive knowledge of history and the environment, this guy is the total package. If you have an opportunity to hire him as a guide, do it and you will not be disappointed. He is filled with a tremendous love of his country and an equal love of people, giving us the best of a great driver (so safe), a great historian, and quite the comedian. Time passed quickly.

Siena is beautiful, nestled in the green hills of Chianti/Tuscany, it is very old with a beautiful Piazza and a beautiful cathedral. By then it was raining hard but we all donned our raincoats, our best attitudes, and some good walking shoes and off we went up and down the streets. Periodically we encountered drenching downpours and we ducked into lovely nooks and arched passages waiting out the massive rain. We laughed at the weather because at some times it felt like we were in a Tornado, of course we weren't but if I was going to be stuck in crappy weather it was nice to be in Siena! Of course we were often forced into shops, darn, and we felt obligated to purchase leather purses and lovely jewelry, as well as the Panne Forte pastry which is a speciality of Siena. Yummy. Thankfully Fabrizio had umbrellas for each couple so we were not completely soaked.

Next we drove to San Gimingnano (it's late forgive my misspellings) which is easily one of the most scenic areas in Tuscany. We found a delightful restaurant and plopped down for lunch and some respite from the driving rain. It was of course delicious, fresh, organic, and very reasonably priced.

Here again we climbed up and down the lovely streets, spying the many towers and getting more drenched. My group of dear friends had the best attitudes, nobody got cranky nor complained about the weather and instead we embraced it once more with positive attitudes and lots of smiles! It's all about how you choose to see what unfolds, and travel brings us all a greater appreciation for everything, even rain!

We decided to forgo visiting Volterra since Fab was worried about the rain, the conditions of the roads, and his main concern as always was our safe return to the ship. We happily complied, knowing we will see him again tomorrow morning at 7:15 am for our visit to Rome and some surprise places. After many hugs, we left Fab and boarded our lovely ship. All in all we had a fantastic day, can't wait for tomorrow.

Forgive me if I am not answering any questions, I am not reading the live right now but trying to keep up with my excursion reports and I promise I will eventually read and answer when we have our first sea day in several days. I will continue to write about our adventures as current as I can. Hope all is well with all my cruise critic friends. Until tomorrow...all the best,

Amelia

Thank you so much for your report. I love it when people have a positive outlook. Rain just makes a day interesting. Very refreshing to see your cup half full posts.

This cruise is well and truly underway. Here are a few of our impressions. The ship is beautiful and the decor while muted is certainly elegant and well appointed. Yesterday the weather was gloomy with lots of rain and the occasional thunder boomer. We had planned to take the bus to Pisa but since we lived in Europe for 8 years, we've "been there, done that" so we decided to stay on board.

Our stateroom (deluxe balcony) is very nice. The balcony is a bit on the small side but certainly adequate. The shower is larger than on other Princess ships but the bathroom itself is small with barely enough room for one and impossible for two, even to just stand in. No hoo hoo though.

The casino was good to us the first night. DW won a bit on the slots but there were not enough poker players to get a game started. On the second night the poker table (Poker Pro electronic) was full and I had to wait about 30 minutes for a seat. It turned out that the wait was worth it. On the first hand I was dealt Q J of diamonds and decided to call but after a $10 raise I waivered a bit but decided to call. The flop was 9 J J so now I had trips. I was going to slow play but decided to bet $20 to drive out the draws. Luckily there were a few callers. The turn brought another jack giving me quads. I did my best to display disgust as if my higher pair had been counterfeited. I bet another $20 and got two callers. The river brought an ace and since they called my bet on the turn, I went all-in and was called. What a great first hand! Should have known better as I went card-dead for around ten hands and decided to call it a night.

There was a Mara Lago demo and drawing scheduled for 8:30 pm last night but for whatever reason, the ship was late leaving and the shops did not even open till 8:45. We had a martini at crooners and wondered if the drawing would even take place. Well, DW headed to Facets and there was noone else there. She asked about the drawing and the sal3esman said that since she was the only one there, she would get the drawing prize; a pendant valued at $199. She was ecstatic and that made her day for sure.

Today we strolled around Civitavecchia, found a great little local restaurant. We had penne arrabiata and a bottle of the house Tuscan wine with a bottle of water as well. The total was 20 euros and the penne was spectacular; nice and spicy, just the way we like it. We stopped by the market and picked up 3 bottles of Tuscan wine for the princely sum of 7.50 euros. Brought it on board with no problem.

We've tried Alfredo's and the pizza was superb. We requested the Chef's Table and received our formal invitations today. We're really looking forward to that.

Tomorrow is Naples and we plan to take the boat out to Capri for the day.

Hope the waether is as nice as today. That's all for now. Time for a bottle of that good Tuscan wine and sailaway from our balcony.

Hi,

We will be on the TA next week. You mentioned strolling around Chittivecia, is this something you think we could do if I have a mobility scooter? Did you have to take a cab or just from off the ship? We were just going to stay on the ship that day, but strolling around would be nice if I can use my scooter. Thanks.

OK. Just got the cord back; electrical dept. says it’s ok. Someone came and tested cabin outlets too. We will see what happens. I am typing this off line and will try to log on to copy and paste. If it works; it works. If not, you won’t be reading this.

So far, so good. Thank you Jackie for the offer. This might be OK.

BTW, what Amelia wrote had nothing to do with the weather at Cinque Terre. It was not just a little rain for us. It was treacherous and 160 people have complained about it. Let's see what happens. When a tour guide tells you the tour should have been aborted, then you know it was serious.

I will be back tomorrow, computer willing, and continue on with my usual nonsensical banter.

Pia, we still haven't cruised together! Thank you so much for your live, you are traveling with some crazy people I have had the joy of cruising with in the past.

I'm grateful to everyone putting their thoughts and tips while on this cruise. I'm filing them away for future trips:)

For now, virtual cruiser

Thank you one and all for your wonderful posts about your tours and the ship. If anyone will see Fabrizio again, please give a big hello from Marcia and David Koretsky. He's our favorite driver/guide!

Pia so glad your computer is back and hopefully it will stay that way. Your nonsensical banter is not that but is music to our eyes! :D

Hi Pia,

While on the South Am. 49-day Circle cruise we visited in the HC and talked about our photo that is suppose to be displayed somewhere on the Royal. It's the Tower of Pisa with a statue in front of it. If names are attached to it, our last name is Angell.

On the wild chance you do happen to see it, please let me know its location.

Have a great trip and I look forward to your Live From every day!

All of the great information is making me wish that December was coming quicker than it is.

I cannot wait to try Alfredo's and I believe my DH and I will never make it to the dining room. Will try to get reservations for CG but it sounds like the restaurant fills up quick if you want an early time.

Sometime I will travel to Europe but until then I have to live through all of you!:)

Congrats Harry on your floppy quad (?) hand! :)

Good luck on the computer revival, it would not be the same without you.

As for the rain in 'Livorno'; it may help folks to understand that Cinque Terre, where Pia was, and Siena, where Amelia was, are at least 100 miles apart as the crow flies (much longer by road) and in opposite directions from the port. Cinque Terre was where they had the mudslides in Oct. 2011 that left several small towns (two that Pia was visiting) under 12 FEET of mud. Heavy rains on near-vertical terraced hillsides are extremely dangerous in this area and have swept people to their deaths.

Good Tuesday morning as we arrive into Naples, the birthplace of pizza and gelato. You didn’t know that? Well, here’s another piece of unimportant information. The original Neapolitan coffee, resulted in the invention of the espresso machine. The weather today is supposed to be partly cloudy and in the upper 70’s. Sure beats cold and rain. Since we’ve been here many times, we have elected to do nothing. On the next cruise when we return to this port we have something planned.

Before we left home Billco had some fitness center questions, so before I forget……… the stretch classes are at 7:00 and the Abs workshops are at 7:30. Same time every day. There are also stretch classes at 5:00 PM daily. On this cruise TRX is 9:00 AM on the two sea days and on Sat. the 5th when we are in Kusadasi. Cost for 3 classes is $60. As for yoga, it’s called ChiBall Fire Yoga and there’s no explanation. Cost is $30 - 3 classes. The gym opens at 7 and treadmills available immediately. There are 24 of them.

We finally managed to see Jack Reacher yesterday afternoon. Have been trying to see that movie for the past few cruises. We enjoyed it.

Last night we saw Troy Thirdgill; funny as always. New stuff, old stuff, doesn’t matter. We like him. Afterwards we played Movie Music Trivia. Lost.

On board during the day is just about nothing other than two movies which we have already seen. MUTS is showing “Hitch” and the theater is showing “Oblivion.” Tonight’s offerings is illusionist David Cats in the theater and “Skyfall” on MUTS. Nothing doing in Vista until they start a 70’s party at 10:45. I wonder how many people they will get for that. Also, there is a jazz group that just came aboard and will be in the Wheelhouse - Jacob Wise Jazz Trio

Just brewed my Starbucks and I'm off to the gym. See ya.
