Vouchers are here to stay

I'm thrilled, I love the voucher idea.

I bet they will eventually have a lounge for the very top tier sailers, of which we are not, and that's just fine with me.

Actually, Celebrity does have a lounge for just that...at least on the Infinity. On the just completed TA, Michael's club was reserved until 7PM each day for penthouse and royal suite passengers as well as, I think the very top captain's club cruisers.

Translated, that means that they took a lightly used space, Michael's club, and made it into an essentially unused place....based on my experience walking by every so often and glancing in out of curiosity.

My guess is that they can't decide if it should be a suite perk or a new captain's club level perk.....they seem to have tried it both ways....along with the apparently already dropped, VIP entrance to the ship, complete with rug.

Some day, they will figure it out....until then, who knows.

Why can't Celebrity find a way to encode the free elite hour drinks on the sea pass cards? Whenever you pay for a drink or use a beverage package, your card is swiped. If the waiters could do it for the three free drinks offered to elite members, you wouldn't have to carry those snippets of paper with you which you always tend to forget in your cabin or which are lying around everywhere in the cabin because you don't need so many and secondly Celebrity would avoid the problem that others on the ship would be interested in sharing all those nice vouchers. ;)

The best way in my opinion would be to be offered 2 or 3 drinks throughout the day, be it a soda by the pool or a glass of wine to dinner and not limit it to those 2 hours in the afternoon where some of us don't need so many vouchers anyway and others are induced to guzzle as much as they can to not waste a single voucher during the cruise!

As we'll have a beverage package during our next cruise we'll have 3x2 passengers x 14 days = 84 vouchers lying around in the cabin - whole forests will be cut down unnecessarily...

I like this idea too...having it encoded in the seapass card would make things easier for everybody

My daughter is sharing a stateroom with me on the Silhouette. I am elite, this is her first cruise. Under the old system, she would have been given access to the elite lounge. Will she receive drink coupons with this system? Will she be admitted to the elite breakfast or receive internet and laundry coupons?

RCCL Diamond benefit is a lounge from 5 - 8:30 P.M. with unlimited drinks. Where did you get info about three drink vouchers loaded to your sea pass card on RCCL??? I understand they are loading other coupons but nothing with respect to the Diamond Lounge.

Are you confusing X 3 drink vouchers with RCCL or do you have personal experience with this on RCCL?? This is the first time I heard about no Diamond Lounge.

Poorly worded on my part.

I am not talking about the Diamond Lounge or the Concierge Lounge for D+ and Pinnacle. That has not changed.

RCI used to give out coupon books for various on-board benefits such as BOGOs for various things such as a glass of wine or casino spins, discounts in the logo store, free photos, etc. This booklet has been done away with and all the benefits are now loaded on the Seapass card. Also, entry to the Concierge Lounge used to be with an extra card. This has now been loaded to the Seapass card.

I can't answer about the drink coupons but under the old system only the Elite member in the cabin should receive the Elite benefits coupon but I've also read here on CC where sometimes even the non Elite member got them, probably an error on the part of the cabin attendant.:D

Chatting with the officers was one of the things we loved most about the Elite lounge. They took the time to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and wanted feedback to our cruising experience.

And I cringe when I see one coming, having had too much to do with officers when I was working:p

. The drink vouchers would serve us just fine because we seldom got to the elite lounge. We are just happy with all of the other perks that the loyalty cruise status gives us. We do not feel the need to meet officers or attend elite only events. The laundry coupons, drink coupons, internet coupons etc are great!:D

We feel the same way.

We are RCCL diamonds going on our first X cruise in March on the Eclipse. The voucher system sounds good to us , however, we enjoy our cocktails before our late seating dinner. Any chance Celebrity changes or expands the timeframe for the use of vouchers?

Perhaps you should address your question to Celebrity Management.....or do you just want a lot of guesses?

How hard is it to hand the server a small piece of paper?

Hard, apparently. :D

Given the way Celebrity manages its website, I sure wouldn't trust Celebrity to electronically add my coupons to my seapass. Could probably spend the whole cruise trying to sort that out. No thanks. I'm fine with the small pieces of paper.

I was reading a similar thread on RCCL, they have started to introduce the vouchers on there and the reaction is completely different to the reaction on here

Where many have said they will miss the elite lounge (including me), they seem to be celebrating the vouchers and being able to go anywhere

Seems to me the difference of what celebrity put into the elite lounge - a nice big area to mingle where the diamond lounge or crown and anchor meet was always in my experience, in a small, often windowless place

Seen that, but they on the RCCL board seem to be under the impression they will get 3 vouchers AND the Diamond Lounge/Event free drinks, which I don't see myself. So 3 drinks around the bars and then back to top up in the DL or wherever.

Your daughter will have exactly the same benefits and access as you. We had the same situation with my husband: I was Elite and it was his first cruise. He got coupons for Internet, laundry, and had access to Elite happy hour and breakfast.

I am probably one of the few that could care less about this perk but if you read the boards many love it. Second trying to keep the true Elites separated from those low life's like myself who moved over from RCI would be near impossible. Why not just enjoy what you're being given and not worry about others? That's the cruise lines responsibility.

I'm another D+ : We'll be trying out Celebrity for the first time in over 20 years

Well said cruiseingator2/

Hi Dz9yvr,

IF, and I repeat IF Celebrity were to move to a voucher only program, I suspect the Sky Lounge would no longer offer complimentary beverages from 5-7. Unless, the Sky Lounge were to be used for any levels above Elite. I suspect the current rumors are related to the new Captains Club levels. Whenever Celebrity announces the details, things will make more sense.

Andy, if you already have the drink package, will you still get the vouchers?

Yes you do. We had the drinks package on the Eclipse transatlantic but three tickets each were left each evening - even though they were just left in a pile on the table.

My opinion:

If they want to make this a REAL perk they should offer the vouchers to be used at ANY BAR at ANY TIME. Many folks don't find the hours specified on the vouchers convenient. For us the vouchers go unused becasue they are generally valid only during the time we are dressing and getting ready for dinner.

I have not yet been on a voucher cruise, but I suspect DH and I might like the vouchers. There are terrific bars and good bartenders and interesting people all over the ship, so we could go to different venues or find a favorite. I'd like to be able to carry a drink to dinner or a show. Between the two of us, six vouchers per night would be sufficient, though can understand if three per Elite per night is not enough for everybody.

Are the vouchers only able to be used between 5-7pm though? Just curious since I've seen that elsewhere.

Odd to see that they wouldn't allow you to get a can of soda? (someone mentioned they weren't giving a full can on the infinity?). Soda is worth much less than 8.00.
