Yes, that Club Bar, did 3 weeks on PP in 2006, Sydney to Osaka, Japan, the Club Bar was jammed full every night, where else to go to listen to the ivories.

I think you're thinking of the Casino Bar - it has music every evening. The club bar is just outside the dining room and is too small for a piano. It's also too small for the food displays.

Thanks for the live. Really entertaining. I have really enjoyed followinv your adventures.

I have a friend who works on the pacific. You may have met him. His name is Eric and hes one of the best bartenders in the princess fleet:D

Yes, I certainly have met him! He's made my pre-dinner martini every night, and you're right, he's definitely one of the best bartenders. Very efficient and just the right attitude, not too smarmy friendly but professional and pleasant. Plus, never shorts on the booze, our Eric!

We had brilliant weather today -- about 80, sunny, breezy. The pool water had warmed up and best of all, was nearly empty most of the day. I did swim some laps (okay, so it was only four or five strokes before having turn, but still . . .), but I'm not going to miss salt water pools. I feel like I have to gargle every time I get out of the water; I must swallow a pound of salt. Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes, the weather. Unbelievably lucky all cruise long. I don't think I dare venture this itinerary again or even recommend it: what are the odds future years will have 18 days of no rain and no temps below 60?!

Motor City last night was actually quite good. The dancers were very enthusiastic and so carried the audience along with them. The lead female vocalist apparently likes the show because [again, this is from my source, the infatuated boy at my table] she likes her solo on Proud Mary. Um hm, well, let's just say, she's no Tina Turner. A pleasant voice but completely lacking in the ragged, low-down edge that Ms. Turner possessed.

To my surprise, the champagne tower party was well-attended. The cruise staff led some acrobatic line-dancing and then the dj played really good music all evening. However, and I cannot stress this enough, THIS SHIP IS TOO DARN HOT. Nearly every public room is way above a comfortable temp, and I'm not wearing much. Wait. Oh, never mind, you know what I mean. So dancing last night was just gross. Every night, the Club Bar is too hot, the Casino Bar is warm, the internet cafe is positively sub-tropical . . . you get the idea.

Today's afternoon trivia was thematic: all the answers had something to do with colours. So your trivia answer for today is orange. We did not win. However, I have accumulated two memo clips, two battery-powered fans, and one water bottle, so I feel that's enough booty [as in pirates', not Beyonce's] for one cruise.

Last days are always so sad. However, this is the first time ever I've disembarked from a ship knowing I'll be back on her (I booked the 4/5-day coastal repositioning in May 2015 several months ago when the prices were insanely low). It's a weird feeling, but kind of nice. It doesn't make me wish any less that I were carrying on to the Amazon, though.

Unless I check in the am [not bloody likely when I could be sleeping until the last possible moment instead], this is over and out. I promise that illustrated review will commence shortly. And thank you to my loyal readers, all -what? half-dozen? - of you.

I'm glad you enjoyed your time. I was hooked on the small ships from day one. I'm aboard in 29 days, for the South Pacific Crossing, and I'm bringing with me a small box fan I bought for fifteen dollars in an Ace Hardware this summer. It will probably be left as a gift for my cabin steward.

I must admit to not knowing the pool was salt water. I've spent 54 days on the Pacific Princess, but have never swum on her … It's great hearing this perspective on this ship from someone else! Thanks.

I am part of the "half dozen"!!! Truly enjoyed your review and your sense of humor. Am now looking forward to the pictorial. Hope your post-cruise blues don't hit too bad! :D

I second these sentiments completely. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this "Live From"

Ripper reply mate, were they selling spare Zimmer Frames, scooter batteries and false teeth in the HAL shop ? LOL. Crikey, I am being nasty. Good job this is the Princess section, the young folk on HAL would destroy me.

They were selling projectile canes and walkers for use in the rougher ports of call, lift the walker, squeeze the handles, and two disabling projectiles fired forth. Plus replacement ammo at the gangway, although the whole skeet shooting over the pool thing got old in a hurry.

I'm hoping the odds are good that it will be repeated next year when I do it. Maybe I can get one last wish off to Santa before it's too late...

Thanks for the enjoyable thread.

  • 2 weeks later...

Best "live" thread I've ever read!! Your descriptions are nothing short of delightful!

Having also read your review, I think you should have scrapped the pursuit of a Phd and just put all your efforts into a writing career!! I could just visualize your books flying off the bookstore's shelves. We'd all want to be first in line to buy them. LOL!!

Thanks for the info and the laughs!

Not me, I'd just pre-order on Amazon and save the scrum.
