Are children allowed in lounges?

Not that I'm asking if my children hanging out at the bar with me but if I stop and grab a quick drink to walk with can they stand at my side? Or do they need to remain outside?

If they are beside you, it shouldn't be a problem. It has never been an issue for us if we are just passing through.

See them in lounges on every cruise. They will not allow them to sit at the bar but have never seen anyone with kids asked to leave if they are at a table. On a recent cruise the bartender brought chocolate covered stawberries to the table for the kids and no, these were not something the parents had extra paid for.

We have stopped in various bar/lounge venues on RCI ships for a drink before dinner, and our daughter has always accompanied us. However, they would not be allowed in the casino, nor in any of the lounges dedicated to Crown & Anchor members during the evening cocktail hour, such as the Concierge Club, or Diamond Lounge. If there is not a dedicated Diamond lounge and the cocktail hours are held in a specific bar or lounge, or if they use that venue for overflow, they would not be allowed there either. The cruise compasses delivered daily to your room will note the specific venues that are not open to children under 18.

If there is not a dedicated Diamond lounge and the cocktail hours are held in a specific bar or lounge, or if they use that venue for overflow, they would not be allowed there either..

 

Not sure if this is a change or not, but our kids were allowed in the overflow lounge that was used as the Diamond Lounge on Freedom. Not that they were welcome, though... the Concierge, Jorge, made it abundantly clear that they were tolerated, not welcome. We left.

Interesting, and good to know -I thought children were not allowed in the Concierge lounge during the cocktail hour, but any other time was okay. Not sure I would have brought my daughter in with me anyways--the venues are so small. I think I would have felt guilty having her occupy one of the few seats in there

 

If anything, you'd think the rules would be reversed, and children would be allowed in the Diamond Lounge when they use a "public" venue for those evening cocktail hours....

some lounges go adult only l after say 9 pm. othewrwise, have at it

I'm going to quote the Diamond letter I got in my cabin on my recent TA on the Serenade of the Seas.

 

"Guests 20 years and younger must be well behaved and accompanied by a parent or guardian at ALL times"

 

So they were allowed in the Diamond Lounge. Looks like it differs from ship to ship.

On the Independence, our kids sat with us in various lounges while we had a drink. They are a little older (10 and 13). However, when we stopped in the the Champagne Bar, a waiter politely approached us and told us kids weren't allowed in there. That was the only spot on Independence they weren't allowed in.

......those who " pitched hissy fits" are paying more for those kids in cruise fare than MOST of those cubic zirconia passengers who pack the CL for " free" drinks......Any concierge who would approach a suite passenger about barring the kids would be putting his/her job in jeopardy since RCL official policy is the opposite. Kids are here...get use to it.......:cool:

Well stated. so what started out as a simple post as to whether a child can "walk" into a lounge on a cruise ship had morphed into a moral debate as to whether a parent should be bringing their child to a bar on the first place. Gotta love the cc community!

Big difference in taking them to a bar at home and sitting in the DL having a drink, enjoying the view and having some conversation after a busy day before dinner.

 

Yes it varies by ship and on the Monarch last year Desmond was the best getting the kids virgin piña coladas .

When we were on IOS this year, my kids sometimes came with us to CL, as did other children. No hellions that I saw other than an ADULT man who was very rude and condescending to the concierge and bartenders. My children as well as some other children were polite enough to give up their seats to adults without being told.
