Xmas on Oasis: The Good, The Bad & The Puking

Disembarkation went well.

Windjammer was packed as expected but with minor effort we were able to find a table. Since we had opted for a late exit we took our time over breakfast. None of us ate too much but we did make a hefty dent in the water and banana supply.

The line off the ship moves continually for about the first 20 minutes and then ground to a standstill for about 15 minutes just as we got close to the escalator down to baggage. Once it got moving again it was about another 20 minutes to get through customs.

So glad we chose to do the inboard airline check in! No luggage to hassle with! We picked up a shuttle almost immediately and were on our way to the airport.

So it is about 11:40am local time and we have close to five hours to kill at the airport until boarding time. This will be nice and give us time to relax before our two flights.

Looking forward to getting home, seeing our pooches and sleeping in my own bed!

You can fill out a form and drop it off at the Loyalty Ambassador's desk for a Next Cruise certificate. You just put down $100 and it works the same as booking an actual, specific cruise.

I am sure that if you call the Loyalty Ambassador's desk, someone would deliver the form to your cabin.

And I nominate you for Passenger of the Year for Best Attitude EVER.

For sure! Thanks for the "chowder" video it will help as we get further into gastrointestinal season!

So sorry you got sick. I got sick on enchantment, and we quarantined for about a day and a half. The only difference seemed while I was able to talk the steward into not cleaning the room the first day, he insisted on cleaning it the next.

When I tried to leave the ship later, the alarms went off. Medical hadn't cleared me in their computer yet.

I think mine was due to food poisoning on the pre-night. We got french toast, it didn't sit well. Personally, I think they left their eggs out too long. We both felt bad, but only I got the full blown noro-virus.

LOL this happened to me as we got off the boat this morning. I didn't even notice but my husband said it honked "isolation" when I slid in my card. I heard it make a noise but didn't know what it said.

Sorry to hear you got I'll on your cruise too! I had a plain slice of French toast at breakfast in WJ this morning, but so far so good!!!

Hello, this is Royal Caribbean International. We would like to provide you with some important information regarding your Saturday, December 28, sailing onboard Oasis of the Seas out of Port Everglades, Florida. During the ship's last sailing, a number of guests experienced a gastrointestinal illness. We will conduct enhanced sanitizing onboard the ship and within the terminal to help prevent any illness from affecting your cruise. Therefore, your check-in and boarding will be delayed. Because space and seating in the terminal is limited, we ask that you not arrive to the port before 1:30 PM. Check in will take place between 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation and we look forward to welcoming you onboard."

Hi,

To the OP, I am so sorry that you all were sick with this on your cruise....Noro is awful on land. To have it ruin your cruise or any vacation is just a million times worse :(

I just wanted to post here because noro is running rampany through NC right now...bad enough that it actually made the news and this strain seems to be a nasty one. SO...anyone, on any cruise should be dilligent with hand washing. Noro spreads like wildfire on cruise ships. DO NOT feel secure using hand sanitizer as it is useless.

Wash your hands. Keep your hands away from your face and before getting on a ship....especially that hectic week prior to leaving for your cruise, make sure to get lots of rest and take some vitamins to boost your immune system. It's not a guarantee against contracting the virus, but it certaily can't hurt.

Sorry to hear about your family getting ill. Your positive attitude is impressive.

We were on the same cruise and loved every minute of it. I agree with your observations. We saw all the shows and they were all excellent. The two comedians in the Comedy Club were top notch especially A.J. Jamal. Food in the MDR was very good, right down to the three lobster tails my son ate. We ate at Giovanni's one day and loved it. Be forewarned the appetizers and pasta courses are served family style and are huge. We were all stuffed before the main courses arrived.

Having a private cabana in Labadee worked out very well for us. On the pricey side but worked perfectly for my elderly parents.

Only disappointment was they didn't play Quest. Instead there was a teen glow party/dance.

So sorry you were sick on your cruise. I am also happy that you will not be charged for medical visits. My friend tripped and fell in her cabin and when she went to medical to have her swollen knee checked they said it would be a $300 charge to look at it.

She declined

[quote name=CVU;

I had noro on Allure in Jan. and they said I was the only one? Found out after I got home it had been going around in Dec. on Allure too.........I went to medical and they said nothing' date=' just confine to .[/quote]

We were on Allure on December 16 th last year and they had had a minor outbreak the week before. (Their description!) We were not allowed to serve ourselves in the buffet. All food was served by staff brought in from everywhere - shops, photographers etc. some were not happy bunnies. The ship was continually cleaned and sanitised. Thankfully we did not get ill.

So sorry to hear you were so poorly. Hope you feel better soon. Glad you enjoyed the first part of your cruise. She is a wonderful ship. Hope you are able to get back on her under happier circumstances.

Antibiotics are no use for a virus, they ONLY work on bacteriological infections. In the UK they are much more careful about dishing out antibiotics now, thank goodness.

Thanks Dee and kneadsdough2cruise! Ends up we had to rush to get out of the room. We were not able to get over to the desk to look for the box to drop off the form. Not even going to stress over it. Thanks for the advice though! It would have been bad to just leave it on the desk.

My understanding that you can call RCL within 2 weeks of your completed cruise and you will be able to get a NCC.

I am so jealous you got to the comedy show. My husband and I had reservations to go on our own while the kids hung with the grandparents. Glad to hear they were so good and you enjoyed them!

Lucky you for scoring a cabana!! That is on my wish list for next time.

Wow that does not seem very fair at all. One would think Royal would be concerned enough about someone who injured themselves on their ship that they would WANT to examine her. I hope everything turned out ok. Knees are not something you want to mess with!

Thanks for this info! I will try and do this next week. We all have agreed we want to try Royal again and this little incentive is nice to be able to get!

Yay, halfway home! The five hour wait at Ft Lauderdale airport went surprisingly fast. I was kind of worries the kids would get stir crazy but they were troopers!

On a short layover now at DFW and should be home by midnight pacific. I figure when all is said and done our travel time from leaving Oasis to doorstep will have been about 15 hours. And it has been a pretty fun 15 hours actually!

Thank you all for your posts. It has given me something else to check on, read and respond to all day.

Orange, just a quick heads up. The credit will come in the mail in about a month. We received it once for a cabin problem, the mirror fell off the wall and landed on us in bed in the middle of the night. Read about it here if you wish http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1474659&highlight=11240 You will return to RC soon, as you will have 1 year to use the credit.

Hopefully the next cruise is as planned. Good to see you are on your home and on the road to feeling better.

We just got home from this cruise and had a great time and both feel fine. We heard rumors from one of the bartenders a couple of days ago that a gastrointestinal illness was affecting some passengers and we had to leave a form on our vanity table noting if we have had any symptoms. We wash our hands rigorously and often and it drives me nuts when I see a woman like I did last night in the restrooms near Central Park who used the toilet and walked right out without washing her hands.

I hope you are feeling better - not a fun way to spend part of your vacation. This time of year Noroviruses are rampant and we know several acquaintances who were sick in different parts of the country. I lost my New Years Eve plans last year due to one of these viruses.

Oh wow. I sure hope you all do not get sick!!! I have no idea what rooms you are booked in but here are our room numbers: 7298, 7318, 7322. If you are in any of these rooms tell them you KNOW that the previous guests were ill. No idea if your cruise is fully booked, but if not and you are in one of our rooms tell them you want a new room pronto!!

We sail on the Oasis on May 10, 2014 and coincidentally have booked cabins 7318 and 7322. Just kidding, of course. It sounds like they will disinfect the room better than I would have at home.

I'm sorry you and your family were so sick on your cruise and hope you soon feel well again.

Actually, we do have those cabins on our May 10 cruise. When I first saw the cabin numbers, I thought, could this be?, and checked it. The just kidding was for the EEK icon. Still, five months from now I will not be worried. We never know anything when we walk into our cabin about what happened the week before. In this case, I know something, but five months before cannot impact our stay in the room. About 17 cruises will go by between now and then with other people in that room hopefully having wonderful cruises.

You sadly were sick a few days and were getting better by the end of the week. I'm sure the cabins will be fine for us and for the week after yours. I'm sorry this happened to you and hope your next cruise will have only good surprises.

I don't remember what the injection was and only got pills for the vomiting/nausea not diarrhea. The packet I still have says Ondansetron, 4mg.

That's also known as Zofran. It's supposed to be very effective. I've not had it myself, but both of my sons have for their various intestinal issues and they've been helped by it.
