Emilycat Posted January 22, 2014 #51 Share Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) BND thanks for the update that Grandeur left on time. I see on the cruise tracker web site they are in the bay. I sure hope they don't have a real rough ride tonight. I'm going in three weeks on the Feb 9th Pride cruise. Hoping for a smooth ride! I sure hope they don't have a real rough ride tonight. I'm going in three weeks on the Feb 9th Pride cruise. Hoping for a smooth ride! Last week we had a VERY rough ride on the first day out of Baltimore and on the second to last night. Thought I was going to be tossed out of bed. I don't get seasick so I kind of enjoy it but others didn't!
Big_G Posted January 22, 2014 #54 Share Posted January 22, 2014 We've never done a cruise out of a northern port in the winter and it will probably never happen. It'd be like Bizarro World. I can see all the snow I want here in New England.
pjlee3333 Posted January 22, 2014 #55 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Why? Does snow look different in 2014 from what it looked like in 2009????? No but some of us like to see our favorite ship with snow be it Grandeur, Explorer, Oasis, etc.
OBX-Cruisers Posted January 22, 2014 #56 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Where did they put the Chops Grill on the GOS? It doesn't show up on deck plans that apparently have not been updated: Thanks

OBX-Cruisers Posted January 22, 2014 #58 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Thanks pj: Wife and daughter are on the cruise and I hope they were strapped in last night because they sailed right smack into that storm. FloGaleRNTX Posted January 22, 2014 #60 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Why? Does snow look different in 2014 from what it looked like in 2009????? The point of the request to see a current picture was to see how much snow had fallen. Barbara

Wife was surprised to find the new specialty restaurants and I could not find them anywhere Izumi's is also at the top of the vicking crown and chiefs table is in a room off the dining room. Hope they enjoy their cruise. I'd have loved to use it to get away from the snow in Baltimore. Grandeur is my favorite ship having been on it many times out of Baltimore. Both captains are good but if captain Espeen is back from vacation he's extremely friendly and approachable if you want to have a chat with him. OBX-Cruisers Posted January 22, 2014 #62 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I was surprised to find out that they held the muster drill outside..WHY?...hope no one slipped on the wet snowy deck. At least it was on the leeward side of the ship and they were not blown over by those 20-30 mile gusts of wind.

So they should know where to go? Just a guess....
FloGaleRNTX Posted January 22, 2014 #64 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Passengers don't always go to their real muster station during the drill. Some go to the theatre, some to dining room, other places. Barbara
Ken at the beach Posted January 22, 2014 #65 Share Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Passengers don't always go to their real muster station during the drill. In the event of an emergency that is where they are supposed to meet and the crew will then escort them outside to the lifeboats at the appropriate time in a coordinated effort. Impossible to fit all the passengers on deck 4 or 5 at once. Edited January 22, 2014 by Ourusualbeach

BND Posted January 22, 2014 #67 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Also, they check your attendance at the correct muster station right? Yes. They scan your seapass.
Mystaken Posted January 22, 2014 #68 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Yes. They scan your seapass. Which ship scans your seapass? I've never seen that. It's usually the entertainers and casino dealers with paper checklists. I wish they had a better system so elder passengers who are less mobile are not subjected to the weather extremes while waiting for the passengers who think they are probably exempt. Barbara actually that IS the muster station. on Disney ours was in one of the Restaurants where were given the spiel then led through the crew areas to the actual life boat before being released. GRs stations are all outdoors. it is what it is.

pjlee3333 Posted January 22, 2014 #71 Share Posted January 22, 2014 They've been scanning on Grandeur since she came back to Baltimore. First cruise out of Baltimore it gave a bit of a delay, I assume because passengers weren't used to it. It may also be why the drill has been moved to 3:15 from 3:30. As mentioned, all of Grandeurs stations are outside.

Maybe they are more aggressive about this on Grandeur because of security due to the proximity to DC and terrorist issues? Just a guess!

Every ship we've been on for at least the last couple of years. Explorer, Allure, Enchantment and I'm pretty sure they were doing it on Freedom in 2011. They do have a list and call out missing people by staterooms after everyone should be there.

It's more something they rolled out over the last 2-3 years. I'm pretty sure it's fleet wide now.
