Trying to beat the snow tomorrow in Baltimore

Recommended Posts

BND thanks for the update that Grandeur left on time. I see on the cruise tracker web site they are in the bay. I sure hope they don't have a real rough ride tonight. I'm going in three weeks on the Feb 9th Pride cruise. Hoping for a smooth ride!

Last week we had a VERY rough ride on the first day out of Baltimore and on the second to last night. Thought I was going to be tossed out of bed. I don't get seasick so I kind of enjoy it but others didn't!

Thanks pj:

Wife and daughter are on the cruise and I hope they were strapped in last night because they sailed right smack into that storm. Wife was surprised to find the new specialty restaurants and I could not find them anywhere

Izumi's is also at the top of the vicking crown and chiefs table is in a room off the dining room.

Hope they enjoy their cruise. I'd have loved to use it to get away from the snow in Baltimore. Grandeur is my favorite ship having been on it many times out of Baltimore.

Both captains are good but if captain Espeen is back from vacation he's extremely friendly and approachable if you want to have a chat with him.

I was surprised to find out that they held the muster drill outside..WHY?...hope no one slipped on the wet snowy deck.

At least it was on the leeward side of the ship and they were not blown over by those 20-30 mile gusts of wind.

Because that is where those passengers will muster in the event of a real emergency? So they should know where to go? Just a guess....

Passengers don't always go to their real muster station during the drill. Some go to the theatre, some to dining room, other places.

When passengers go to the theater, dining room and other places that IS their muster station. In the event of an emergency that is where they are supposed to meet and the crew will then escort them outside to the lifeboats at the appropriate time in a coordinated effort. Impossible to fit all the passengers on deck 4 or 5 at once.

Also, they check your attendance at the correct muster station right?

Yes. They scan your seapass.

Which ship scans your seapass? I've never seen that. It's usually the entertainers and casino dealers with paper checklists. I wish they had a better system so elder passengers who are less mobile are not subjected to the weather extremes while waiting for the passengers who think they are probably exempt.

actually that IS the muster station.

on Disney ours was in one of the Restaurants where were given the spiel then led through the crew areas to the actual life boat before being released.

GRs stations are all outdoors. it is what it is.

we were scanned on GR last September, then they went through the list calling out the ones who had not been checked off

They've been scanning on Grandeur since she came back to Baltimore. First cruise out of Baltimore it gave a bit of a delay, I assume because passengers weren't used to it. It may also be why the drill has been moved to 3:15 from 3:30.

As mentioned, all of Grandeurs stations are outside.

Thanks for that info! Maybe they are more aggressive about this on Grandeur because of security due to the proximity to DC and terrorist issues? Just a guess!

Grandeur scanned our seapass for muster attendance. Just got home yesterday.

Every ship we've been on for at least the last couple of years. Explorer, Allure, Enchantment and I'm pretty sure they were doing it on Freedom in 2011. They do have a list and call out missing people by staterooms after everyone should be there.

No, they did it out of NJ and FL also. It's more something they rolled out over the last 2-3 years. I'm pretty sure it's fleet wide now.
