ItzRav Posted January 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2014 We're sailing on Eclipse this Saturday. Do the staterooms have temperature controls so we can make the room cooler or warmer as desired? Thanks.
BaumD Posted January 21, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2014 Yes, they have a thermostat. Sometimes they work well, sometimes they don't.
wf083145 Posted January 22, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2014 And sometimes you need to go to engineering school to figure out the thermostat.
dodger1964 Posted January 22, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2014 We seem to find the extremes of the thermostat. Like it not sometimes and cold others (on same trip). If I remember correctly there is a way to keep the fan running. Great for white noise while sleeping.
Rare keesar Posted January 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2014 We have not had a problem with thermostats on the S-class ships. They seemed to work pretty well from our experiences.

excitedofharpenden Posted January 22, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Very easy to use and effective has been my experience. Re the post above there isn't a way to keep the fan running. It just cuts in when the set temperature needs to maintained. Phil
kelmac Posted January 22, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I've always been impressed with how well the A/C works on Celebrity ships. The only exception would be the aging Century. Up on deck 12, port side, there were issues on our last cruise. The hallways were hot and our cabin would never cool down to a comfortable temperature. We called several times and talked to our cabin steward, but things really never improved. We are returning to the Century in April and we moved our cabin location down to deck 9 to avoid having the same problem. A/C issues were one of our main reasons for giving up on Holland America ships. Their smaller ships are notorious for having A/C issues. Enjoy! jackdiamond Posted January 22, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Although some might not agree, a very viable option is to turn off the a/c and open the door.

No way would I do that on a Caribbean cruise. Open balcony door = heat, humidity and insects. Phil
UniPac Posted January 22, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Although some might not agree, a very viable option is to turn off the a/c and open the door. There is no on/off switch, at least i did not find it on my last two cruises (S-Class).

Phil That has never been our experience. As a matter of fact, we find the fresh sea air to be very refreshing. Also, humidity is very good for the sinuses and the skin. This has been our aproach on about 30 cruises.
Rare MarkusToe Posted January 22, 2014 #13 Share Posted January 22, 2014 as long as you switch of the A/C, yes - if not you create problems in your neighborhood staterooms ...
chessbriar Posted January 22, 2014 #14 Share Posted January 22, 2014 I've always wondered if the controls in the rooms actually work or are they just placebos?
terrierjohn Posted January 22, 2014 #15 Share Posted January 22, 2014 There is no on/off switch, at least i did not find it on my last two cruises (S-Class). We went to an environment lecture on Eclipse last year, the environment officer stated that A/C controls in the cabin cannot be switched off, and setting them at max or min just fouls up the room. His recommendation was to make minor changes to the thermostat, this is the most effective way to control your room temp.
