Priority check-in with non-priority travel mates?

We're CC Select level and are sailing in Concierge class on our upcoming cruise out of Port Everglades. We're sailing with friends who are going to be on their first Celebrity cruise and are in a normal balcony. We'll be arriving at the terminal together. Can we take them onto the priority check-in line with us, or will they be forced to go to the normal line?

It won't be a problem. We had priority boarding last year while our cruise companions did not. We all checked in together at the priority boarding counter with no problems. Also note that depending on the mix of boarding passengers, sometimes the line at the priority counter may be longer than normal boarding lines.

We are elite and travelled with our daughter and grand daughter last November who were on their first cruise in a 2b cabin

We chose to all check in the normal lines as I didn't think it was fair to make the priority check in line longer with the addition of two that shouldn't be in it really.

To be honest it didn't make a difference the line was as short as priority and we checked in at the same time at adjacent desks :)

You will be fine, take them with you as mentioned. Depending on what time you arrive, there may be no line at all anyway.

We have seen the check in staff take people from a line to the check in agent for the suites when no one was waiting. Much to do about nothing  hope the friends enjoy their first Celebrity sailing of many more.

I don't see it as an issue at all. I have never waited for more than 5 minutes, if that, no matter what my boarding status. That's exactly why "Priority Boarding" is such a joke!

Plus, it takes like 2 minutes to process the paperwork. If someone wants to board with their friends, I am happy to wait that two minutes so they can enjoy being together. If it was such big deal they would have guards at every line checking your paperwork.

I don't see it being the same as chair hogging or any of those other 'infractions' at all.

Our family members traveling with us had an inside cabin while we had a CC cabin. Our family members were asked to use a different check counter as their sea passes were there. We just waited for then to come back to us & we boarded together so we could get that all important photo together.

I haven't sailed out of Port Everglades before, so I don't know what the lines are like. I remember when we sailed out of Miami many years ago it was a zoo. I intend to get to the pier early this time because I want to be able to purchase the Ultimate Dining Package, and don't want to have to wait for my friends to check in. If they can get thru quickly without having any priority, then great. If they'll be waiting on a long line with me, then I'll want to take them with me, since we need to buy the package together.

Last year when we sailed out of Amsterdam I was shocked, we were on the ship 10 minutes after arriving at the pier. I wish all check-ins could be that efficient!

Did this thread have messages deleted? I posted (I thought) about checking in and "sharing cabins to all be elite" on cruise and I don't see post anymore.???

Now that you mention it, there has been a post or two deleted--the one I was responding to, which was not very nice, is now gone. . .I guess the mods are enforcing their New Year request for everyone to be nicer to each other!

I much prefer Fort Lauderdale...Miami is a zoo and the area (including airport) is fithy (dirty)...never again from Miami.

We are select also and have always stayed in a suite. Our company were able to go on same line as suite the first time. Second time they were told no then, were escorted to another line, which went faster than ours. Go figure. Both cases were on Millennium. Going on Summit this june, same friends, same situation. We will see!:D:rolleyes:

We'll I hope they don't delete posts just because someone has different opinion. It wasn't mine that was "not very nice", but your post reminded me of what it was. That poster said basically that using the wrong line was against the rules. They might have said it in a harsh way, but they were just stating the rules...

I agree we all need to try to be helpful and offer our opinions in a respectful way, but should not be censored for an opinion that is different.

It appears so, and for that I am grateful.

There were two posts by the same person who lashed out at another poster for saying they had priority boarding and their friends, who did not, stayed with them in that line. The poster who was attacked came back to defend the situation by mentioning that they had asked if it was OK for them to stay together in the priority line and they were told it was. The offensive poster attacked that comment as well. His comments were quite harsh, making accusations of breaking the "rules" and placing themselves above everyone else who "paid for" the privilege. He then continued by accusing the innocent poster of probably also breaking other rules, such as dress codes, priority tendering, and even chain hogging. He was quite mean. His wasn't an opinion, but an attack. I suspect that is why the moderators removed his two postings, and any that related to it. I say "Bravo" to the moderators - we don't need people attacking others on these threads.

I remember all of this because we once stayed with friends in the priority line with permission from the staff guiding passengers to the appropriate check in line, so the attacks struck a nerve.

Oh, and other thing - there are no rules or policies regarding check in lines, so no rules were broken. We had once been guided to the line for suite passengers even though we were not in a suite. That line was empty at the time, so the staff was optimizing the check in process. I guess you consider my husband and I "rule breakers"? ;)

Ok, so we go to check-in at Port Everglades (we are Elite) and get directed to the Elite line which is actually longer then the regular lines. Ain't Priority great?

So we jumped out of the priorty line and put ourselves in a regular line and were checked-in much faster then those in our priority line. We overheard one lady remark that she was certainly not leaving her priority line even if she would get checked-in faster. Go figure.

Gosh, you're up late tonight, Hank!

Anyway I always cringe when I see people post that they booked concierge because of priority boarding! We have had delayed boarding once, following a noro cruise--otherwise it seems that we just walk on! A quick stop for the seapass and off we go. Really doesn't matter which line, I think we've been in all of them at one time or another. But like most of the other CC perks, it sounds good. . . ;)

I agree that most of the time priority lines don't really work out much quicker but personally if we were travelling with friends who shouldn't be in the priority line I would be in the normal line with them.

I just like to do things by the book :)

Good post, totally agree. This whole thread is much ado about nothing

  • 4 weeks later...

Back from our cruise and we had no problem with our friends joining us on the priority lines. We sailed from Port Everglades, and the guard at the entrance told them to join us at the special line they had outside, and when we got inside they just followed us to the Concierge Class section (to be honest, I think anyone could have done it as there was no one looking at your paperwork). They had no problem getting their Sea Pass at the counter. There was a line at the regular section, although it wasn't that long. They were then allowed to join us in the waiting area upstairs, since the ship was not boarding yet.

When we walked past the Elite line (which seemed to be at the very end of the check-in area) after checking in, it seemed to be pretty empty.
