What is your happiest cruise memory

On our honeymoon cruise to Alaska, I was in the shower when my husband rushed in and and said "You have to see this NOW!"

So, barefoot, dripping wet in a robe, I stood on the veranda and watched a pod of whales right below as we were sailing by. Amazing!

Funniest memorable experience? We were in one of those super large veranda aft cabins on the Millennium when it first sailed and decided to have dinner one night served on the veranda. Our room stewardess (probably out of habit) locked the veranda door when she left. :D  We had to wait until our "neighbors" came out to call her to "save" us. (She was soooo embarassed/apologetic, but we ended up having a good laugh over it.)

Sailing into Cabo and seeing a HUGE pod of dolphins (maybe 50 or more) swimming behind the ship. (We were in an aft suite). That cruise was very memorable as we were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary, it was our first taste of the NCL suite life, and our first time seeing dolphins swim in the wild. We also made a lot of CC friends on that cruise and still talk to them today. :). For those reasons, the Star will always hold something special for us.

The few memories that I will always remember was our 9 day So. Caribbean cruise on the Dawn. This was the first cruise after repairs were made since the Dawn experienced a total power loss at sea. We where all worried that our cruise would be cancelled due to the repairs not being completed. The roll call was ginormous:D

Well they got them done, the ship was empty when we boarded so our rooms were ready right away. The crew had a couple of days off, so they were in a great mood. We went to the M+G and there were 150 people in attendance there from every walk of life. We still see and write some of them.

The weather was fantastic and since this cruise was in December seeing palm trees in Miami with Christmas lights on them was cool.

Driving down the West Side Highway and getting the first glimpse of our ship waiting for us gives me goosebumps every single time!!!!

Happy Cruising :)

The end of the day on the last night of a 9 day anniversary cruise on the Jewel and the band played the special song from our wedding - without any requests from us. Complete serendipity:) Although we didn't dance, we held hands, kissed, and gazed in each others eyes totally in the moment on that perfect night of a perfect cruise. That was 5 years ago and that memory is the one that I cherish the most.

One of my fondest memories was my very first cruise. Just spending time with my Dh, Dd and her boyfriend at the time. Now her husband of two years. Then we took another cruise together and we did an excursion where we went swimming with the dolphins. We had a great time. These days my Dd is busy working on her master so we haven't taken a vacation together for a long time. Dh and I miss cruising with them.

I can't tell you --- this is a family friendly board.

JUST KIDDING.

I agree...my daughter grew up on cruise ships and it was great to see her growing, and meeting people from all over the world. She's in college now and her "social IQ" shows ....she is head and shoulders above many of her peers. I attribute at least some of that, to her cruising experiences.

my kids excitedly catching a whole bunch of salmon in Ketchikan on our Jewel cruise

Now that, is what I call a fine kettle of fish! What did you do with it all???

Did they let you take it back onboard and thence, home with you????

Excellent job by your kids! (And fine looking kids they are!)

That picture is at the dock of the fish processor. We had half of it fileted and the other half smoked, and all shipped home via fedex. Let's just say we were eating salmon for a while. :) This is one of the two boxes. The smoked came out to about $8.50 per lb including shipping. Great deal!

Oh, my other favorite part of that trip ranks a close second

I cruise with my mom and sometimes additional relatives. Because of that, no tales of cruise romance. All of those a long time ago and on terra firma.

But I do have a fun story about enduring friendship.

A few years ago we cruised on The Sun to South America. On day one we met two couples who we played trivia with every time. We were all very into it. We did really well. That was fun. But we really enjoyed each other and had some dinners and fun time on our balcony. And a few rousing games of SCRABBLE. We have kept up thru email and fb.

Those of you who know me here on CC know how I feel about the Sun... Well, mom and I cruised on the Sun a second time in March 2013, same aft ph. It doesn't get any better than that. Or does it?

On the first night of our 11 night Southern Caribbean cruise I wanted to go to Le Bistro but mom wanted a quick and light dinner so we opted for the MDR. We were seated in the back. About done, we were about to leave when we noticed a man being seated nearby. He smiled. Our jaws dropped. Then behind him we saw his wife. You guessed it! there were our trivia friends. We were reunited for more fun trivia, dinners and continued friendship.

It was a total surprise to all of us. What were the odds?

The look on my kids' faces when they saw our first cruise ship and walked up the gangway. My youngest daughter saying "How do we sleep on a ship?" and my son asking if there will be pirates onboard. This summer will be our third cruise together and I can't wait. Kids grow so fast - enjoy every minute!

Had to be our kids first cruise. Back in '00 on the Splendor. We had booked our usual Aruba timeshare for Thanksgiving and were all set when Air Aruba went belly up a week before. Last minute scramble for air to Florida and a cruise. We were stuck in an inside cabin with two girls - 13 and 16 years old. They were miserable because their Aruba vacation with friends and family was not happening. In a way - so were we.

First night - they were soooo unhappy and of course made Mom miserable. Second day - they made their way up to Adventure Ocean and hooked up with some other kids. After dinner we gave them permission to go hang out. We were back in our cabin at 11 PM getting ready for sleep when the girls come barging in and ripped the sheets off their beds.

"Bye - we are going to a toga party!!" We hardly saw them after that. We were all HAPPY!!

They still keep in touch with some of the kids they met on board.

I have a couple.

The first would be my kids' first cruise on the Spirit. We sailed on my youngest daughter's 2nd birthday, and at the time they could still go to the Kids Club at 2 years old. I clearly remember my adorable little 2 year old marching through the ship with her face painted like a princess, holding the counselor's hand, pumping her little arm, and singing her tiny little heart out during the Pirates and Princesses Parade. I nearly cried, and I'm not a crier. It was precious.

The second was my 1st Epic cruise. I was with my sister and my kids and we were upsold to the the Haven 2-bedroom suite. The company was perfect and the suite was outstanding and it could not have been better.

Awesome thread..

Why there are many "happy" moments. The one that stands out to me had a very deep meaning, at least for me.

Having been a fan of ancient civilizations since I was a little kid, when we decided to take our first cruise and found several chances to see Mayan ruins, this was a no-brainer.

We picked the Dzibanche ruins in Costa Maya. Not a "NCL" endorsed trip due to the 2 hour drive each way from port but it is the only set of ruins in Mexico that you are still allowed to climb.

The "happiest" moment for me. Standing there, on top of centuries old ruins, looking down into the city, across the canopy and seeing other ruins extending from the trees. The feeling that centuries ago, a king once stood there, as his people looked upon him.

It was a very spiritual experience for me.

P.S. Tour guide had to beg me to finally come down. ;)

1. Getting engaged on the Jade while leaving Athens. It was almost picture perfect.

2. Had a few minutes to kill before dinner so I walked into the casino and sat down at a random 25 cent machine put a $20 in the machine turned my head to say something to my mother while hitting one of the buttons and then all of the sudden the machine just started dinging. I walked away from the machine $600 richer.

Gosh, so many! My favorite memory is probably our first cruise, and seeing the cruise ship from the road for the first time. I had NO idea that the ships were that big, and I was speechless. The crazy part is that it was Sovereign of the Seas, so it was so small by comparison to the ships today.

Fast forward to our Epic cruise this last year. To pull up to the port of Miami and see Epic, Carnival Breeze, Celebrity's newest ship, and several others was nothing short of amazing. It was so exciting to me, so overwhelming. Hubby still laughs at me because I was so excited that I cried! :) Will probably happen again this next cruise.. ;)
