chengkp75 Posted March 24, 2014 #301 Share Posted March 24, 2014 I believe Radiance class only has two azipods. Wouldn't removing a prop be problematic? You are correct. She lost a thrust bearing, and being the older X model azipod, it required drydocking for repair, so the ship operated for quite some time on one pod. In order to reduce drag, the propeller blades were removed, leaving only the propeller hub. This did cause problems, as the two azipods are the two, redundant, steering systems. With only one pod, you've only got one steering system, so in US ports, the USCG will require a tug escort all the way from the sea buoy to the dock and back, and some countries would require this as well. Rare colesc15 Posted March 24, 2014 #302 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Is there an actual email address I can send to? When I click on contact us, it just brings me to a page to fill out and put my "comments" in the little box below? Is there an actual email address and also an email address to CC Adam Goldstein in on it as well, versus' just doing the "contact us"? Anyone?:)

cruizinawayinva Posted March 24, 2014 #306 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Captain Ole is just onboard today. He recorded a video at noon telling us what is going on. Direct from the video: "The fixipod has bearings that are shot. So they are removing the blades from the fixipod. They are removing the sealers from the bolts and removing the propeller from the shaft so far. Each blade is 2 tons." They "hope to be on the way late, late, late this evening." All aboard is 5pm. Muster at 545pm. More updates after muster hopefully.
EaganCruiser Posted March 24, 2014 #307 Share Posted March 24, 2014 i have sailed with Rccl 16 times now and this whole situation sickens me...Adam Goldstein and his sr. folks should have been in San Juan yesterday and today to nip the bud on this BLACK EYE...The good news is that no one was ever in harms way from safty...the horrible news is that they left and still are leaving a ton of long time customers in the dark...RCCL has comitted a major fumble here...and it will take a alot of public relations to get it back on track...Adam G you need to step up to the microphone and be the voice of the cruise line...to be frank an honest as to what has happened... i am suprised that nothing has been done from a press release...unless i missed something... 2CruzAddicts Posted March 24, 2014 #309 Share Posted March 24, 2014 Phew what an awful experience. We arrived around 4:15. Our cab driver told us Royal told him we'd be 2-3 days in San Juan for repairs. However we had heard nothing from Royal. Despite being registered for email, text, and phone calls and having all 3 at our disposal. We stood in 2 lines for 3 hours before being able to board. It was 90 degrees and they gave us no water, food, or information about what was going on. Those who are not on cruise critic had no idea anything was even wrong with the ship. It was a nightmare. People were having medical emergencies due to the heat and there was 1 bathroom. When an employee wearing a Royal name badge walked by the line with a bottle of water and was asked if passengers could get water he told them we could buy it from the local vendors who came out to sell it while we waited in line. The Captain updated about 45 minutes ago that we will be in port through tomorrow night. Then we will pick up our itinerary. I heard nothing about any onboard credit so not sure about that. This was truly awful customer service on the part of Royal Caribbean. And to add insult to injury there is a letter in our cabin saying no towel animals this week. With two little boys who I talked up towel animals to this is the icing on thr cake. Royal has not delivered any WOW to me to start my vacation. I reserve full judgement based on the rest of the week. But as of now I would not be booking another sailing on Royal. And yes I realize towel animals are a silly thing to be upset about. :) Just came off AOS and it was the best cruise we ever had - go figure. Talk to your cabin steward though. We found this staff to be the best. They are only doing them on formal nights (noticed alot of these little "cutbacks) but soon as I mentioned how much I loved them, they started to appear. I'm sure your steward will not disappoint your boys. I hope your cruise gets better.

I certainly don't harbor any bad feelings towards them. I realize the poor customer service issue is completely RCI coporate dropping the ball. I feel sorry for the crew because there are some angry passengers onboard demanding answers and complaining. As fas as I've seen all the crew have been very gracious and patient while trying to address those with concerns, even though they don't have many answers themselves. I do think the drydock is much needed though as the ship could use some refreshing.

cruizinawayinva Posted March 24, 2014 #312 Share Posted March 24, 2014 They are putting the gangways back out and letting people go back to San Juan for the evening. All aboard is 2am. Setting sail for St Lucia sometime "late evening/early morning". Obviously probably early morning since all aboard isn't until 2am. :)

cruising granddad Posted March 24, 2014 #314 Share Posted March 24, 2014 And to add insult to injury there is a letter in our cabin saying no towel animals this week. With two little boys who I talked up towel animals to this is the icing on thr cake. Here is how to handle it. Talk to you room steward. Since they make towel animals out of your supply in the room, tell him about the kids excitement about the animals. Do not do this where your kids can hear. Let it be a surprise! Here is the IMPORTANT part. Tell your room steward to make each New towel animal from the old towel animal from the night before. You will not be using fresh towels so the laundry will not care. The room steward should be tipped extra. I will buy you the first "beverage" round next time we sail..... if I am wrong. Let us know how it turns out! Good luck!! I always tell the room steward to forget towel animals for us and to make them each night for the kids!

cruizinawayinva Posted March 25, 2014 #324 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Captain just announced Adventure won't be leaving San Juan until 4pm tomorrow. Supposedly hitting all of our ports, except Barbados, just in a different order now. They are giving us another onboard credit. I wasn't able to hear how much. Well..look at the bright side...at least it's hot and sunny in SJ...the people on the ships in Galveston/Houston that are stuck due to the oil spill are in chilly, yucky weather...and 2 of the cruises there have cancelled.....Carnival will still try and sail their ships tomorrow..... Go have some more pina coladas...thanks for the updates, keep them coming if you want...:D;)
