We Need a Cigar Lounge

Recommended Posts

I just don't see the reason that you build the largest cruise ships in the world and don't put in a cigar lounge! They allow smoking in the casinos. Many passengers complain about that, and rightly so. The casinos are becoming the smoking lounge. Put aside a little space, provide adequate ventilation, maybe have a bar in there too. Ever since the golden age of ocean travel a nightly ritual has been cigars and brandy. Don't deny us that. Give us a space where we can enjoy a good cigar and not bother other passengers.

Agreed, however being a smoker while i understand the reason for recent changes to the smoking policy i don't like the change at all. Now i am secluded to being able to smoke in only designated areas, which now no longer includes my own room balcony. However the cigar lounge i have always enjoyed on other ships, wish the would have them added on the new ships.

In principal I agree with you, even though I am a not smoker. I am not one of those that has the attitude of I dont use it so therefore there is no need for one.

Otherwise there would be no Kids Club, Kids Pool or Gym, and there would probably a dedicated Football ( Soccer ) Bar and a Pole Dancing Bar. If you support my request I will support yours. :D

It is outside, but Deck 17 bar is a "cigar lounge" at night.

Yes, and very often it is so windy up there that it's not really possible to light a cigar or a cigarette. Especially when the bartender does not want you to smoke at the bar but only around the corner where the wind is blowing....

I would love it if they would take a page from Cunard. The Churchill Lounge on the QM2 is absolutely fantastic. Just off the Commodore Club, this is a fantastic place to sit and enjoy a cigar and a drink. And they have what must be hands down the most fantastic air handling system I've ever seen. Ten people smoking cigars and the room still seems to be fresh air.

Cruising is sometimes synonymous with things that may not be the best for you ... sun exposure, drinking, eating, etc. While I occasionally don't mind smoking outside, I generally won't smoke a nice cigar out there as the wind makes them burn way too hot and fast ... so an outside space will never be a "lounge."

This doesn't help I guess if you are referring to Oasis and Quantum class ships, which are the newer builds without a cigar bar. However, Voyager and Freedom class ships do have a dedicated indoor cigar lounge forward on deck 5 called the Connoisseur Club. But this is not a fleetwide venue.

Space is expensive on a cruise ship, and smokers of all sorts (except pot in Colorado and Washington) are a dwindling demographic.

cant really see that as a factor, if that was the case the library would go, see any smoking area and there will always be people there, the library is more often not empty on every cruise I've been on.

Agreed, Elvis. Yes, space is expensive on a cruise ship, no doubt. But as others have said - there are pretty poorly used areas too - the library being a great example. As for demographics, I'm a "non-smoker" in those demographics, but have a lovely humidor sitting on my desk, and do enjoy an occasional cigar & brandy or cognac. So I think the demographics are larger than one might first surmise. Also, I firmly believe RCI will end up changing the casino policy, that doesn't seem to be working very well. If/when they outlaw smoking in the casino, they really SHOULD provide some other indoor alternative. As others have said, if its upscale wtih a bar and WELL-VENTILATED, I think it would be adequately used more than enough to justify the space.

I just came off of the Explorer of the Seas, they had a cigar lounge, but apparently few used it as they were all in the casino. The casino was a disaster for a non-smoker, the smokers used the casino bar as an indoor smoking lounge and many never played any table games or slots.

I met a man I will call a good Cruise Friend in the cigar lounge on Freedom of the Seas. We were there every evening enjoying a good cigar, or two. I got to meet his darling wife Priscilla as well as he brother and other half. We correspond to this day. His name, you ask, ELVIS1209.

HELLO, my friend. we're going on Explorer in September and Quantum on Jan. Hope you can join us. We can do some first hand research on Quantum.

FWIW, I am just off the Explorer and one of the junior officers told us they were going to have a cigar lounge on the Quantum. Deck 5 forward. It's just a rumor, but, at least it's a good one for the lovers of the leaf.

That would be great. I hope it is true.

I'm a non smoker but I totally think there should be a nice inside lounge for both cigar smokers & cigarette smokers to enjoy. I don't understand why they can't enclose a room and put in some good air filters & let smokers use it.

Not sure about in the USA, but here in Australia one of the prime reasons for banning indoor smoking in bars, lounges, restaurants etc is out of consideration for the health of the workers in these facilities... whilst patrons using these facilities needed to be considered, they typically are there for relatively short periods of time, unlike the employees who are there for long periods. A big driver as I understand it was concerns from the business owners of being sued for health effects on their employees from exposure to cigarette & cigar smoke.

I'm a non-smoker who appreciates having most areas non-smoking, but I do have some sympathy for those who do smoke even if they are a dying breed.

The reasons you are banning smoking is one of the same reasons they ban it here - the dangers of second hand smoke

But if you have a room without staff you aren't affecting anyone but the smokers in the room. Let's pretend you could enclose the library, there's no staff manning it, people are just popping in for a smoke. Unlike the casino area where you are affecting the dealers, other gamblers, bar servers etc. By smoking

This not a difficult question. There are not enough smokers to justify a dedicated area. If they add a dedicated lounge, RCL can make a bigger profit when the lounge is designed for the vast majority of the passengers. If smoking is that important to you, select a different cruise line.
