travelplus Posted March 25, 2014 #26 Share Posted March 25, 2014 There needs to be a Middle Eastern Offering. The Middle Eastern offering tastes way more better than Chinese food. People like me get sick from MSG and they say they don't put MSG but they find ways to hide it. Just my 2 cents.
JemzRoo Posted March 25, 2014 #27 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Joy. The thing I liked least about Norwegian is now coming to Royal. I really wish they did it Disney style and did a rotational dining while keeping the same wait staff. I'm honestly already very disappointed. CRUISEBOY305 Posted March 25, 2014 Author #29 Share Posted March 25, 2014 (edited) I made a reservation on Serenade, for April 2016, yesterday and I have reserved, Traditional dining, at 8PM. My invoice does not refer to Dynamic Dining at all. Maybe you got this info because you selected MTD. And, as always, it is probably one of their computer system glitches. Yes I have MTD. I have a feeling it's a glitch . Lol. Surprise surprise I don't see something like this working on serenade Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app Edited March 25, 2014 by CRUISEBOY305
negc Posted March 25, 2014 #30 Share Posted March 25, 2014 I can definately see the point about reducing the number of menus and why there is no way you would have 7 daily menus for all the restaurants. It would be nice if there was one set menu with perhaps a daily selection that offered 2 or 3 choices that varied daily. I don't see any reason that this couldn't be done in any or all of the four primary dining venues. Even the dining venue which is formal every evening could have some selections or perhaps a "Chef's Special (s)" that could vary daily. Even with four major dining venues, they would still be serving hundreds of guests each night in each venue, so the likelihood of something more than banquet food in those venues is very slim and the specialty restaurants will continue to cater to those who want personalized service and cooked to order meals. nelblu Posted March 25, 2014 #31 Share Posted March 25, 2014 On the Anthem deck plans that was taken down, there was large un-named space on back of decks 3& 4, which could be the main dining room (s). Will find out more on the 27th.

wmp.dll Posted March 25, 2014 #33 Share Posted March 25, 2014 I feel like this is a terrible idea. The main dining room is cruising to me, I loved it on Freedom last year. If I wanted to freestyle cruise, I'd go on NCL. Thumbs down Royal.

nolesrule Posted March 25, 2014 #35 Share Posted March 25, 2014 1. I think the reveal will be more about the food than the dining concepts. Since higher tier cruisers were invited they may revolt at the idea. Many, obviously, don't even care for My Time Dining. Not to argue. Just adding to the conversation. But we met several high tier cruisers on Brilliance last weekend who never set foot in the dining room. And I admit that while I like traditional dining, I would also like to try a cruise one time where I skip the MDR the entire time. I've never done that before. I find the theories in this thread intriguing.
London-Calling Posted March 25, 2014 #36 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Looks like no more MDR in any shape or form. It sounds just like a COPY of NCL's freestyle. I must say that Epic, Breakaway and getaway's choice of dining venues and flexibility were making RC's one big 'Main Dining Room' concept look rather outdated. I assume formality will be discarded as well? There will be more opportunities for additional dining fees than ever before - NCL style again. Havingfun2010 Posted March 25, 2014 #44 Share Posted March 25, 2014 Sounds like RCCL is taking customer feedback, and creating a fun filled family vacation. If they give you options, more people are pleased. Have we not been reading how so many people complain that formal night is not being honored by a selection of cruisers? That selection of cruisers want to be informal. So now, everyone has a choice and no one will miss out? I like traditional dining. I like knowing who my waiters are. I like meeting new people. However, this gives a change and I won't judge until I experience it.
Dave85 Posted March 26, 2014 #45 Share Posted March 26, 2014 Sounds like NCL wonder how many venues will be for a fee That is definitely the million dollar question... or should I say, the anywhere from $5 - $120 question . For what it's worth, I agree with LMaxwell's guesses above on what will be included and what will not.
Ken at the beach Posted March 26, 2014 #46 Share Posted March 26, 2014 That is definitely the million dollar question... or should I say, the anywhere from $5 - $120 question . For what it's worth, I agree with LMaxwell's guesses above on what will be included and what will not. Add another that is in agreement with fee or free. I also think that those large blank areas are crew areas/ kitchens and not another dining room.
island2islands Posted March 26, 2014 #47 Share Posted March 26, 2014 Well I am booked for January on the Quantum, I like mdr with the same waiters for the cruise. I have dome premium dinners on a few cruise lines but the MDR is where we meet. This old dog is not looking for new tricks.
hitaway4 Posted March 26, 2014 #48 Share Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) It's pretty clear what the writing on the wall is. They are trying to cater to the younger generations. As said in the cruise conference a few weeks ago, the cruise industry is struggling with 21-30yr old demographic. It's one of the driving reasons they are upgrading the internet onboard so much. I know all you long time cruisers like the MDR, consistency, etc, but people like options and choices now-a-days. Times are changing, and royal is getting on-board. You can also bet your bottom dollar, that this concept will be on Oasis 3. Edited March 26, 2014 by hitaway4
deedeetoo Posted March 26, 2014 #49 Share Posted March 26, 2014 I'm not sure what I think of this. We don't like dressing up so the lack of formal nights in most of the dining rooms will be a welcome change, but we do like the MDR experience of going to the same table with the same waiters and not having to wait to be seated. I don't want to have to make reservations for dinner each night or be given a beeper to wait because I didn't. I also don't like the NCL way of charging for most of the dining venues. I hope RCI doesn't pick that up.

I probably wouldn't want this to be the case on every ship as we too like to make new friends at dinner, but I would love to try it and have it available on a few of the ships. We have an Allure western med booked Oct 15 B2B with the Allure transatlantic...I'm now thinking we should change the med sailing to an itinerary on Anthem out of Southhampton!
