Just Back... Equinox 11-day Western Caribbean. VERY Detailed Review!

Thank you for that really informative review. We were on Equinox last August and really enjoyed everything about it (apart from the cleanliness of our cabin which left a lot to be desired)

Interesting. We got off Silhouette this past Sunday and my sentiments are basically the same. The room itself was clean enough, but the bathroom was definitely not what I'd call spic and span (unlike on our Solstice cruise two years ago).

The shower walls had soap scum buildup and old stains, grime in the crevices at the bottom of the glass enclosure frame, the tile grout looked dirty, and the shaving foot-rest had black gunk (mold?) on the white rubber non-slip rings. I don't think they cleaned the floor all week because there was a toothpaste stain on the floor in front of the sink for several days until I cleaned it up.

I'd brought Clorox wipes and purchased another pack at CVS while we were in San Juan since I realized they weren't really cleaning anything in the bathroom aside from the sink and faucet.

Other than that, we had a great cruise, but I was always a bit skeeved stepping into the shower. DH doesn't notice such things, but I am a bit of a clean-freak. I said nothing to DH and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it with the steward even though I was probably well within the right to do so, especially since this was by far the dirtiest cruise ship bathroom and shower I have experienced in 25 cruises across all the major lines.

In the stewards' defense, they seemed to have many more cabins than last time. Our room was on the back curve of the second hump and one day we saw our stewards cleaning a room way forward of ours after we got off the forward elevators. Maybe they don't have the time to do more thorough daily cleaning.

We got off Silhouette 3 weeks ago and our cabin was kept pretty much spotless. I have in the past said something to the steward if things were not quite to the level expected (nicely, of course). My advice for the future is to speak up, don't let things slide. Moldy, dirty showers are not ok.

I do agree with you...

...And I was disappointed, but I didn't want to ruin an otherwise wonderful trip with complaints to, what seemed to me, overworked stewards. I have never really had to complain to a steward before either... (Thinking back, our room on Norwegian Sky was a bit dusty and they didn't really vacuum, but the bathroom was not grimy or moldy).

Our Silhouette bathroom was a [unpleasant] surprise, though, because I felt totally comfortable in our bathroom on Solstice. Also because Silhouette is newer than Solstice isn't it, but the bathroom (condition, tile etc.) seemed older.

Thanks to the OP for a very detailed review though!

A couple things from this same cruise that the OP didn't experience:

Fun Factory. We cruised with our three and six year old sons. Our sons loved it and they did a phenomenal job. There were about 15 kids between the ages of 3-9. They always had activities and crafts to do. The boys preferred to go to the buffet and then the fun factory, than go to dinner with us (Shh. I preferred it that way as well). They made super hero costumes, pirate outfits and all sorts of other fun things. They even went to the Cirque De Soliel style show with the kids. It most have been entertaining, both boys behaved well.

Bars, we had the premium pkg. By in large, this was the area that I was most disappointed. This was the second to last cruise in the caribbean, they've been there for months. More than half the time I would order a drink off of the menu and the bartender would have to look at the menu to see what was inside. Three or four of the Tequila drinks tasted identical. I ordered a Margarita with a Grand Marnier floater in the casino bar. The drink I was given was a cloudy white color that tasted awful. I don't even know what you add to it to make it that color. The shining star was the Martini Bar. The guys on board put on a great show and have a lot of energy. More importantly, nearly every drink I tried there was fantastic. We were disappointed because we had the premium package and wanted to try a wider variety than normal. We will be back on the Equinox next March and will upgrade to the premium pkg again. However, we will be using it mostly for the Martini bar.

bbqoug...

Other than the nice versatility of the Olympic camera and not having to worry about it no matter where you go, it has a couple of cool picture modes. The panoramic mode is outstanding. My wife really likes some of the special effects modes.

Couldn't help but notice this comment. Anytime you add Grand Marnier to ice, it will turn cloudy. As for the taste....GM and tequila??? Sounds dreadful, and I love GM and margaritas! (separately):D

To the OP - wonderful review!

Thanks for your wonderful review. We are sailing on the Equinox next May for a Mediterranean cruise and it will be our 2nd Celebrity cruise and first on this ship.

We loved our first cruise on the Constellation so much that we are somewhat anxious we won't like the Equinox as much, but you have put those fears to rest.

Thanks again!

A lot of top shelf Margs use GM. My initial thought was too much GM. In Margs, too much can be over powering even though I've never has a cloudy issue. I would suggest newbie bartender.

Enjoyed the review but would like to add my own observations:

Cartegena: hired cabbie for four hours, $60. Let him show what he wanted, and told him what we wanted. Great day. At end, paid $60 to the "company" and tipped driver $50. 4 of us, 4 hours and he was fun. Well worth $3 per person, per hour. Going back next month, it may be a ship day. As mentioned, don't expect real A/C.

Belize: as mentioned, gotta excursion. The ruins were worth doing by comparison with others. The "pile of rocks" in other places were right on. The tenders aren't that bad.

Anyway, as with anyone's opinion there are a few things I disagree with but thanks for the review. You gave us a great idea for Coz!
