Sail away song?

Can anybody here pass me a beer

And I'mma keep playing this music that you hear

And if you know the song

Then come and sing along with me

Walking with the beach to my left

Sea to my right

And I'mma get faded at the Tiki bar tonight

Then I'mma roll one up

Like my name is Bob

Yeah I'm gonna party like I'm a Jamaican

If you really wanna know where you can find me

I'll be unwinding

Down in the islands, down in the islands

You should loose track of your timing

Grab a drink beside me

Down in the islands, down in the islands

Can anybody here pass me the rum

And we can find somebody who can play the steel drums

And if you like this beat then everybody dance with me

We got the ladies to the left

Fellas to the right

And everybody's faded at the Tiki bar tonight

And we are gonna dance to the rhythm of the waves

While we drink Bacardi by the bonfire flames

If you really wanna know where you can find me

I'll be unwinding

Down in the islands, down in the islands

You should loose track of your timing

Grab a drink beside me

Down in the islands, down in the islands

You don't need no invitation, no

Whoaaa

If you're looking for relaxation

Get away, get away with me

Make your destination my location

If you really wanna know where you can find me

I'll be unwinding

Down in the islands, down in the islands

You should loose track of your timing

Grab a drink beside me

Down in the islands, down in the islands

If you really wanna know where you can find me

I'll be unwinding (down, down, down, down)

Down in the islands, down in the islands

You should loose track of your timing

Grab a drink beside me

Down in the islands, down in the islan

I remember a beautiful instrumental version of "Somewhere over the Rainbow" playing every time we sailed from port on our Millennium Mediterranean cruise 12 years ago. I still think of that fabulous trip whenever I hear the song!

I should have know it was you Tom, Freedom 55. Years ago on a Barefoot Windjammer Cruise out of Grenada, they played Amazing Grace as we hoisted the sails. I will never forget it and even now the song makes me feel the wind in my receding hair.

I loved sailing on Crystal when they played Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong. Back on 2003 Celebrity was playing the Hawaiian singer named Iz version of Somewhere over the rainbow. It is beautiful. He died of complications from obesity as a fairly young man.

I LOVE hearing this version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow! It's truly the essence of cruising for our family! As much as I love it, we really only hear it when we're cruising, unlike most of the other music that has been mentioned.

My first choice would be silence, so I could listen to my ipod if I choose. My second choice would be anything like the above mentioned soundtrack. That whole CD is a winner. Most instrumental movie soundtracks work nicely, including some tracks from Titanic, Braveheart, King Arthur, The Mission, Pearl Harbor, Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator, House of Sand and Fog, Hidden Dragon, Star Trek, etc.

At the very least, an instrumental that is not intrusively blaring. Sailaway music should be background music. I avoid sailaway parties where all the energy is focussed on the "party band" (rather than the views) playing the same old songs they always play (AND ARE REQUIRED to play - Celebration, Margarittaville, We are Family, YMCA, etc.) That music is marketing at it's finest, to encourage people to spend more on drinks, and it is usually INTRUSIVELY LOUD .

Although I am not a fan of those songs myself (as I have heard them WAY TOO MANY TIMES over the DECADES, and on EVERY mass market ship I have been on), there is a place for them. I just avoid them, especially at sailaway, and enjoy my cocktail with a view and music to my own liking ;).

Every party has a pooper that's why we invited you, party pooper ...

JK;), but it was the first song that came to mind.

I do agree that I don't like it LOUD either.

I agree with you kaseyoze = time to say good bye is a classic

I always remember sailing fro St Martin on MSC lyrica to this one - and the other 4 ships that were there, were cheering and clapping us out ..... it really was a fantastic moment - that will stay with me forever !!

If you could hear any song playing while you are sailing away what would it be? My vote is "Sailing" by Christopher Cross.

All great songs, fellow posters! Mas Tequila by Sammy Hagar is another good one to get the juices flowing.

I actually create a playlist before every cruise (for when we're in the cabin or on the balcony), and usually it's customized according to where we're going (usually eastern or western Caribbean). So lots of Buffett and Kenny Chesney of course, but plenty of other laid-back and tropical stuff as well.
