Haven Prices Are Getting Out Of Hand

We were in the Haven on the Getaway 2 weeks ago. There were families - none unruly. I think it is like anywhere else - it depends on who is there! We enjoyed over 2 hours by ourselves, just my husband and I, in the Haven pool area. It was wonderful!

I just booked my first NCL in the Haven for my husband and I and it was less then this $1,000 per day per couple and got the 3 promo items so it was a deal!! Looking forward to this cruise!!

 

So did we (second time in Haven on Breakaway)! Cost ended up being $357/day per person, and it includes UBP, UDP and OBC. That's worth it to me for a relaxing week at sea :-)

I was just thinking the exact same thing the other day.....someone just asks a simple question & the next thing the thread is full of people hurling insults at one another .....reminds me of an elective online religion course I had to take when I was completing my masters :D

My wife and I sailed in a PH Suite on X last year - the balcony was over 1,000 SQ FT - but even thought the cabin was beautiful, grand piano, 8 or 10 person dining room and that 1,000 Sq Ft deck we would not do it again for the simple reason that we do not spend nearly enough time in the cabin to justify the cost.

 

We originally booked a PH aft suite for this April on NCL but cancelled when we realized, this was months ago, not we could not even buy the UBP. We have since booked again, just a Balcony Guarantee, since we get the UBP for free.

 

Point is that unless I won a lottery, I would not spend the money on a large suite since we don't spend enough time in the cabin to get our moneys worth.

 

BTW we are not pool/lounge in the sun people so the Haven area does not make that much of a difference to us, we would rather sit outdoors at a bar and play cards :)

The cruise line has to try to juggle and try to maximize profits.

 

In my own view, there is a market for premium travel, aka Haven or Yacht Club concept. The people who are willing to pay for Haven/YC are looking for something special and are willing to pay that extra for it.

WOW, I just did a mock booking for 2 years from now on a 10 day Panama Canal cruise. The less expensive Haven suite is $5,092 pp while a regular suite is approx. $3,100. A non Haven balcony is $1,577 pp.

 

They have seen how well the Haven has been received and now they appear to throw what ever they can on the walls, price wise, to see what sticks/works/sells.

 

NCL appears mighty proud of their Haven suites, but come on $1,000 + a day per couple!!!!!

 

If they want to get away from the mass market and become a high end cruise line, they need to change more then just the price and their offering of the Haven....

 

At least with the high end lines, they will some times throw in air fare and a ride to and from the airport to the dock for the price....

I now have the Yacht Club on MSC booked for a Bermuda cruise out of Miami for $300 a day pp. Great price while it lasts. New line for me to check out, and only a 4 hour drive to the port.

 

Yes the April 2016 cruise appears to be the one I was talking about. Prices have raised I see. I personally do not want to pay $800 a person a day for the Haven...All the power to the people that do. I will just have to muddle through the Yacht Club life as an alternate plan....:D

 

In the mean time, I will also enjoy the Suite Life on the Sun come this April and only have an 1.5 hour drive to the port and a 10 day Thanksgiving cruise with a 3 hour drive to the port. :)

Yacht club seems to be quite popular with NCL suite/haven people met few that use this as an alternative when NCL get silly on pricing.

 

MSC have sensible prices for the beverage packages.

We did an 11 day Southern Caribbean this past December in a one bedroom Haven villa for less than $275 per day per person.

Agreed. this promo was the deal breaker and with Royals suite perks getting worse, prices going up and tired of traditional dining-this was a great time to relax for a week and give NCL a shot.

I priced out a 7 day Alaska trip on the Pearl for early August 2016. For 5 people in the Haven 2 bedroom, it is $16,226. That includes person 3 - 5 free (only taxes + port fees). That is $463 per person per day.

We have an Alaska 2016 booked for 5.

It was just over $15,000 for a regular suite and about $2500 more for the Haven.

 

We chose the non haven suite, got $300 OBC, UDP for everyone and the UBP (soda for 3-5). Figured these incentives worth about $1800, so we shall see if there are any price drops better than that, but I don't think so.

 

Could not justify the extra amount for basically the same cabin.

Before I'd pay that for NCL I'd be on Oceania or Azamara or Crystal.

NCL is not a non profit charity organization. They are in business to make money. They will charge whatever the market bears. Alaska is not the Caribbean. They only have a few short months there to sail.

Trying NCL cruise for the first time ever come mid Dec. Booked a Haven Penthouse suite. Have been reading a lot of disappointing threads about the changes and cutbacks RCI has been making on their ships and experienced some of it myself on the Oasis last Nov.

 

A lot of talk about the Haven suites and the special attention to details offered to the suite guests. I checked their pricing and with their current promos running, and decent itinerary I couldn't resist. What sealed the deal was their awesome $US to $CA conversion rate of $1.10. (banks here are offering $1.25!).

 

The Getaway seems like a really nice ship, can't wait.

Hi, we paid 4600 Euro approx $5200 for a forward haven penthouse on the Getaway this September for 3 adults taking advantage of the freestyle choice offer so we get:

 

. 3 Ultimate Dining plans

. 2 Ultimate Beverage programs

. 1 Soda Package

. $300 OBC

 

So we are talking around $1700 each for Haven Forward Penhouse.

 

We originally priced it last summer without the freestyle choice for 3900 Euro so not a bad deal.

 

We nearly paid those prices for a min suite on the Epic so to us its great value and Caribbean will be an experience as i have only done med cruises on the epic.

I agree with most of the comments. We first cruise NCL in the Haven last Sep. it was a great deal the price was the same as Princess suite. Went ahead and booked the Haven on the Jewel for March 14, 2015, again a great deal booked a year in advance. This will be our last cruise on NCL, they have just priced themselves out of the market. It all started back in October. If I had rebooked the upcoming cruise then it would cost me over 3000 more. I have checked Caribbean Panama Canal and Alaska cruise and they are all over the top. We have one of the prime suites on Princess for Panama Canal in Dec 2015 and it's about $4000 less than Haven. Again have a Celebrity suite on the Solstice May 2016, which comes with free speciality dinning and their 123 promotion for about $4,000 less. We are retired and don't mind paying for quality, but the only thing the 4000 extra is buying us is the courtyard since the Princess suite is just as nice and the Celebrity Suite is much better. Too bad Because without the Haven, they are just N average ship

Tampa typically has excellent suite prices. DW and I just booked a "penthouse suite" on Star for next Feb. for $1700 per person for a 7 day cruise. This includes the UBP, UDP, credit, and prepaid DSC

In November 2014 we booked a haven suite on Getaway for September 2015. The cost was $1648 pp which comes to $236 per day pp. I don't think that was out of hand or maybe we just got lucky and booked at the right time.
