CroNich Posted May 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2014 Just wondering considering that it will be based in Asia for the next couple of years after its debut. With the upcoming renovations at OPT could we see her make a stop or two (perhaps a season) in Australian Waters in the next few years?
Kiwi_cruiser Posted May 8, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2014 Don't know :), but I would hope, she would come for a stop over visit and a bit of a show off :D

The logistics of getting here would be mind boggling. It could be done , but she would probably need her own oil tankers to go ahead off her for refuelling. The renovations at the OPT would fall well short of her needs. I believe she needs 3 gangways for boarding and disembarking passengers and they are all in use at the same time. The reno at the OPT is designed to enable it to handle Oasis size ships (berth wise) and there are already three 3 gangways available and providing all the planned extensions are in place it is not beyond the realms of possibility........and we all know those fantastic check in staff could handle it:D:D:D
cruisin-m Posted May 8, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 8, 2014 I wouldn't be surprised if it made an appearance down under, people would be willing to pay through the nose to experience the Quantum and that premium could warrant a visit down under. I doubt it would be for at least 3-5 years though and only if they believe we're willing to pay as much as our oriental mates up North ;) RCCL are already asking 'premium' pricing for Radiance and Voyager as they are the bigger and glitzier ships out of Aus, could only imagine the premium Quantum could get. Who knows, unless some more serious big dollar upgrading of infrastructure takes place to placate all the cuts to average joe aussies real needs. That being said, if "biffo boy" Packer gets it into his thick skull he might expand his operation yet again with docking facilities for enticing Allure of The Seas & Oasis of The Seas to include gangways that conveyor paying customers directly into his new expanded casino development via five moving walkway style gangways. :D Anything is possible for Goanna Kerry's offspring, as laws don't apply to the mega rich. :o With the budget coming up headed by the "INFRASTRUCTURE PRIME MINISTER" Tony "Taxy McTaxington" Abbott unveiling a new $10 billion infrastructure package in his first term offsetting the political pain of harsh increases & cuts elsewhere to all the average taxpayers and welfare recipients, we will have to wait a little while longer to see eh? Nothing would surprise NSW residents. ;) .

We were handling close enough to 3500 pax on the The Voyager this season pretty well with the OPT's current configuration so we are not that far away. Wait and see what they come up with next season ..you may be pleasantly surprised. Edited May 8, 2014 by gbenjo

I agree. We are sailing on a 7 day cruise on the Radiance in January. We are also going on the Allure in the Med in Sept- price about the same for the 3 of us -now that there have been price drops on the Allure-And that is with the premium RCL has put on the Med cruise prices! I suspect that it would be cheaper to fly to the Caribbean and cruise on the Oasis class than cruise from Australia! Jennie
Pushka Posted May 8, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 8, 2014 I'm not sure enough people would pay the $$ needed. I don't believe the ship is as well known in Australia as we'd like to think here on CC. Most people think VOS is huge and cruise on her for that experience but we know on CC that for RCL anyway, there are two classes of ships much larger. Maybe here on CC we are just not representative of Australian cruisers.

Boarding points are just split out the same as on ships now e.g. on Solstice just off when we tendered one group goes down one end, the next the middle, with adjustments as loads changed, just like central queuing in other venues. I believe their reasons for entering that market are to attract a large number of cruisers in what they believe is a lucrative market due to absolute numbers, not that it will be super premium priced compared to elsewhere.
