Ladies attire on formal nights

On formal nights, do the ladies have to dress in evening gowns? Do you HAVE to wear a dress or are nice pants acceptable? I don't wear dresses.

Women seem to get away with just about anything except maybe shorts (and then it would depend on the type of shorts). Pants are perfectly acceptable.

That's pretty much what I was thinking.

"Anything but your bikini and flip flops!" would have been my answer. :)

I do not wear dresses (or skirts) either. It is acceptable to wear nice slacks (a silky kind of material, though synthetic fibers are fine :) ), and a sort of glitzy top. In "real life," I pretty much never dress up, and while I was at first concerned about formal nights, I've found them sort of fun. Kind of like Halloween for grownups. :p

I think for women, it is pretty much anything goes. I usually wear gowns and am in the minority. A lot of skirts or pants with sparkly tops, maxi dresses, everyday dresses, cocktail dresses, etc. on my January cruise, I'm not packing gowns, because I felt overdressed last cruise.

I sure wish my wifester were like ya'll! I wanted to leave the dinner jacket, tux, and suit off the packing list last year! NO! Not gonna happen:eek:

I'll still be dresser than most, but just no more gowns. Love the pictures, you look marvelous.

And for formal nights, the only place on the ship that has a "formal" dress code is the main dining room. Everywhere else on ship, including all other restaurants (at least for now) are smart casual and above for dinner time.

Does anyone else remember back when shorts were not allowed on Celebrity ships on Formal Evenings after 6 PM?

LuLu

That was changed about 6 or 7 years ago. The interesting thing was that you complied with it or you didn't eat. I'm not sure when but for many years Celebrity did not have a buffet for dinner and then they started the buffet and casual dining. Prior to this there were no specialties so you either dressed up and ate in the MDR or you resorted to room service and stayed in your room all night.

We were blessed to be able to sail on Celebrity in the '90ties, along with HAL, Cunard, NCL, and RCCL with our children. I feel this exposure helped expand our children's awareness to a few of the more proper ways to experience some of the finer things available in life.

In general on formal nights people don't dress as formally as they once did.

On my last Caribbean cruise on X this February, I felt overdressed in my sparkly stuff. Most women were in simple dresses or pants suits.

Depends on the itinerary. Transatlantic could be as many as 30%. Five night cruises could be as few as 10%. Nearly every man will be wearing a jacket. There will always be a few who just refuse to follow the dress code, but not many

Took mine for a long time, in 2007 went with a black suit and the off white dinner jacket. This year will prob take the tux again just to get a different look in the pictures.

I don't know what the overall statistics are, but I always wear a tux on formal nights. I enjoy the elegance of those evenings. Lady Kathryn and I are always dancing on those nights and it is more special this way. Lady Kathryn always wears long formals and to say that she looks spectacular would be an understatement. Just imagine a tall, slender, gorgeous, platinum blonde who is especially elegant and graceful on the dance floor.

I actually take 2 different tuxes on 7 night cruises and feel honored just to be able to hang out with a woman like my DW on formal nights.
