Dreamer333 Posted July 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2014 Why does Princess "skip" 13th deck? Superstitious? Tradition? Trouble with booking that level? Just curious if anyone knows.
Ethel5 Posted July 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted July 6, 2014 It's an old superstition. You will notice that almost every hotel does not have a 13th floor.
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted July 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2014 We were just talking about this. DH did a run yesterday, and when he picked up his bib on 7/4, his was number 13 (out of about 450). Even though he's not superstitious, we were surprised at how many people saw his bib at the start of the race and commented on it. Next year he won't register so early! (He finished strong. To heck with superstition!)
Rare Essiesmom Posted July 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 6, 2014 On most lines, there is no deck 13, and no cabins with 13 in the number. The exception is MSC. On Divina, there is a deck 13. EM
Mom33 Posted July 6, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 6, 2014 There actually is a 13th floor on all ships and in hotels. It is just numbered 14. :D ;)
likeadisguise Posted July 6, 2014 #6 Share Posted July 6, 2014 Not only is there no 13th floor on Princess ships, there are no cabin numbers that end with 13.
newport dave Posted July 6, 2014 #7 Share Posted July 6, 2014 In my street there's no number 13, it jumps from 11 to 15.

mr green Posted July 6, 2014 #10 Share Posted July 6, 2014 A question. Who will dare to write the 13th post? Or, will this thread die at # 12? john
caribill Posted July 6, 2014 #11 Share Posted July 6, 2014 In certain Asian countries 4 is the equivalent of 13 in the USA. With the repositioned ships to Asia I doubt Princess is renumbering floors and cabin numbers.

croftybubbles Posted July 6, 2014 #16 Share Posted July 6, 2014 Superstition, I've only ever been in one hotel with a 13th floor, thankfully I wasn't staying on that floor 😁 Sent from my iPad using Forums

Corfe Mixture Posted July 6, 2014 #18 Share Posted July 6, 2014 On some ships we have found that, where there are two telephones in a suite, sometimes one is Deck number + cabin number whilst the other is 13 + cabin number Can't remember which ships have this, but we first noticed it on P&O Oceana (Sun Class), but also know that it was not that way on Island Princess where both phones had the same number. Cruzin-K Posted July 6, 2014 #20 Share Posted July 6, 2014 Most Royal Caribbean ships have Deck 13 (if there are enough decks), with the odd exception of the Oasis class which goes from Deck 12 to Deck 14. Even the new Quantum class shows Deck 13 on the deck plans. Strange

skf Posted July 6, 2014 #22 Share Posted July 6, 2014 You will notice that almost every hotel does not have a 13th floor. In China there is no 14th floor because it is unlucky. However, the Chinese people do not like the 15th floor because they know it is really the 14th. Steve
Ethel5 Posted July 6, 2014 #23 Share Posted July 6, 2014 Supposedly the reason the number 13 is considered unlucky is because there were 13 people at The Last Supper.

There's usually a lot of evil on the 13th deck, so they only open it up for the Halloween cruises. ;)
