Subscribing, we don't drink a lot, I put a $500 GC on our Sign & Sail account when we boarded and Carnival refunded me $124 cash at the end of the cruise! 😆

Cash??

Just off the Dream last week and went to guest services and was told a check would be mailed, I also tried off of the kiosk and the most it would give me was $15, so off to the casino I went...........:D

They seem to run out of them very quickly. I wonder why they don't get many at a time

....ok so back in November and December the cards would be available for days at a time. And once they were around for almost two weeks. There is no set pattern for when they turn up. And obviously sometimes they are more in demand than others. Just keep checking. Obsessively. Every day. And you will be able to get them. That's really all there is to it.

I bought 2 of the $500 cards, I received conformation that they were purchased but it said they will be mailed. Is this right, I hear everyone talking about theirs being an e certificate.

Yes the $500 ones are actual gift cards and are mailed by UPS (at least mine was when I ordered in Dec). You should get an email when it's shipped and you will have to sign for it when it arrives.

E-certificates would be so much easier, but I haven't heard about Verizon rewards doing that.

RaiderFaninNM, yup, CASH! I went to the desk because the $500 credit wasn't showing up on the tv in the cabin and they printed out my account charges. He showed me the $500 credit on the top line, I looked at the bottom, saw the -$124 and said, "I guess you'll mail me a check?" and he offered me cash. I think everyone else there was jealous. 😆

Yes, originally they were e-cards. No longer.

$100 cards are mailed regular mail, in my experience. $500 cards come via UPS (at least mine did) and I had it shipped to the office since I read here that it requires a signature. Since I work, I wouldn't be home to sign for it, would I?

Yes, they sell quickly. Since we have zero idea what sort of inventory Carnival allows them to have each shipment, we have zero idea how quickly the inventory will sell.

ANYWAY, I posted last week in our upcoming Roll Call that they were available. Someone replied that she stopped at her Verizon store and they had them there! Gave them the phone number and they gave her the discount. She walked out with two $500 cards.

So, if you have a store near you, call or drop by and see if they have them for sale there. I have one in the mall near my house, so I may swing by to find out. Would be more convenient. I ordered 2 $100 cards and am hoping they arrive in my mailbox this week and don't get put in someone else's (as happened to me once before!).

Wow, that is nice, I tried that last week on the Dream and she noticed that I funded my account with gift cards, she gave me two options, wait for a check in the mail or go the candy store and get a card for the amount. But I went to the casino instead and cashed out that way, silly as it is our money!

Just wondered if you had found this true for where you live, we also live in the RTP area. This would be so much easier than stalking these two sites faithfully, lol. Would you mind posting if you have any luck?

Already gone! :( Trying to get my gift cards before my cruise in 2 weeks!

The chances of that happening are not very good, I would think. Even if they go on sale in 7 days, you will still have 4-7-ish days to receive them. And this is the best case scenario.

If they do go on sale before your cruise, you could go ahead and order them, have them shipped to someone you trust, they could email the card numbers, then you could get on ship wifi or free wifi in a port and get the email, and apply them to your sign & sail. Make sure they send all numbers on the card, there is a PIN under a scratch off.

Check the Verizon website several times a day. I've had my best luck finding them around 5-6am. But they have also gone on sale at other times during the day. At a minimum when I'm looking, I always check when I first wake in the morning (or earlier if I wake for bathroom), once midday, and right before I go to bed.

Read this post for what the messages in the cart mean ...

If you haven't done so yet, subscribe to this thread and the AARP gift card thread with instant notification turned on for the threads. Most of the time, when they become available someone will post it to these two threads and you will get notified right then. In addition to stalking the website yourself, that's the best way to catch the gift cards.

Of course, there are always some people who don't know any better and start a new thread saying they are available. That really sucks because only the people who happen to be looking at the cruise critic board right when they post will see the thread, but none of the people who are subscribed to the other thread will be notified.

But usually someone will still be good and post a notification on these threads too.

That is what I am curious. What if I WAY overload my account with gift cards? If I have $1500 left at the end of the cruise from GC if I can manage to cash it all out @ the Casino. W/ 10% off, that's a bonus $150 to my next cruise.

Why not just load one card at a time. That's what I did.

As I have probably posted in the thread at least a couple of times, the first time I applied a card to my S&S, I used a $500 card. I was told it would go back on the card if not used.

Not so. I received a check within a week of returning. Which was fine. It went straight into my checking. I mean, it's not like I don't have other bills to pay, right?

This is why I prefer the $100 cards for the actual S&S account. I apply them as needed.

I don't want to have to go to the casino and do the "cash out" trick. I don't want to have to travel home with possibly huge wads of cash. For me, the whole point (besides the discount) is to avoid having to travel with lots of cash.

So I usually buy $200 at a time if it's just to take for my S&S and apply throughout the sailing.

I personally don't believe in giving anyone my money earlier than necessary, so I'm not going to spend now to get a discount on something I may not use for a long time.

I would be careful to not load too much on there, that might be the red flag that the funds are all from gift cards. I usually load them gradually as the week goes by based on the spending. But I have never had more than $400 left on my account at the end. It was nice though to take that $400 check and turn around and purchase 4 more $100 gift cards and receive another 10% off, kinda like double dipping :D

I would be curious to know the most anyone has ever received a refund for though??

I thought that might be a red flag. I definitely don't want to get carried away. My last cruise was a shade under $300 left from GCs and i cashed out at the casino the final night. But the "double dipping" was my thought. Use the 10% off cards to get cash to get more 10% off cards.

Great minds think alike :D Although I'm sure many others have done it also, just haven't posted it, lol.

Red flag smag, they could care less it is $$$ besides when cashing out they have no idea how you "fund" your account, I had a substantial amount left and did not want to keep it on a gift card as we usually cruise every other year and do not want carnival holding MY $$ for me. Had $629 left and just transferred that to my "bank account" and did play a few, made $60 more then went to the cage and cashed out. The others ahead of me had much more to cash out on so my $600 was chump change as compared to the others ahead of me, this is YOUR cash people, don't let Carnival dictate to you how and when to use it!

I will have to swing by my local store and see if they have them. If so that's a much easier way to get them! My last card was delivered to my neighbor who wasn't so nice about it.

Hmmm... this gets me thinking.

Buy a $500 gift card for $450. Apply it to your onboard account. At the end of the cruise, cash out the unspent balance and receive the full $500 face value back.

Ca-ching. You just made an easy $50.

Do that with several gift cards and repeat for several cruises and you'll eventually get enough dough for a free cruise. :-)
