Does Diamond help in Balcony GTY Assignment?

We are Diamond on RCL.

 

Just booked a balcony gty. Will being Diamond help us vis a vis cabin assignment or is simply the luck of the draw?

No benefit to C&A status on a GTY.

NO. In fact I joke that there is an inverse relationship. The higher the status, the worse the assignment.

 

I had OV guarantee, I am higher end d+ and got deck 3 first cabin forward. Just about the worst assignment (I guess I could have been assigned deck 2 first cabin forward

I think you are onto something. We are also D+ and just did an inside guarantee on the EN. We DID get Deck 2 last cabin back.

 

However, we really liked the location. It was close to the Centrum elevators.

No, it won't matter.

For a short time, I had two bookings for a balcony gty on the same ship (wanted to change TA, but booked new before cancelling old). During that overlap, cabins were assigned (before final payment!). The one without an associated C&A number got a better category than the Diamond one.

So do not be surprised or upset if a newbie gets the luckier draw.
