leaveitallbehind Posted September 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Nothing - I never have any trouble sleeping on a cruise. The motion of the sea is very relaxing.
masonpips Posted September 8, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2014 We have an app on our phones for white noise. Used to bring a sound machine but now use the app (works in airplane mode). Drowns out any door slamming, pounding down the hallway, stuff above you noise!

Iamthesea Posted September 8, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2014 We still use the white noise machine when luggage space is not a problem. Have tried the noise on my Ipad, in my Music app, but it "breaks" in continuous mode and wakes us a lot of the time. masonpips - Does the Iphone app have a continuous "break free" loop? Is it loud enough?
erin_cruisers Posted September 8, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Besides a few cocktails and any other vices, what tricks do you use to help get quality sleep on a caribbean cruise? If this is a serious question... I try to book cabins mid-ship, and two decks below the pool deck (to lessen noise from the deck chairs above) and also not right beside noisy elevators. As another poster mentionned, I find the gentle rocking of the ship ensures a great sleep. Oh, and don't forget to put the "Do not Disturb" on your door before retiring. It has no loop and is pretty darn loud if you want it to be!
readytolose Posted September 8, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) I'm a person who has to take sleeping pills every single night, except on a cruise. I get the best sleep ever while cruising. I don't know if it is the fresh air, the slow rocking of the ship, the cocktails or if the beds are just really comfy but I love it! Paulette3028 Posted September 8, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 8, 2014 The gentle rocking of the ship always puts me right to sleep. Agree, it is the same reason babies fall asleep when they are in a moving car....wonderful. It is exactly what I missed when we were on Allure....we did not feel the oceans movement.....but we still had a great time on the cruise.

dacsmom Posted September 8, 2014 #12 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I get the best sleep on a cruise ship. I don't have to worry about work and there is something about that sea air and gentle motion.
Carguylee Posted September 8, 2014 #13 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I usually get my best sleep on a cruise, no tricks needed, not sure if it's the motion or the total darkness (always get an inside cabin) or what but I always sleep really good on a cruise. PSCruiser Posted September 8, 2014 #14 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Best sleep ever on a cruise ship. However, if you do have trouble, try a short hot tub session just before bed, and then use one of the sleeping pills that you must already own. fsjosh Posted September 8, 2014 #15 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Get an inside cabin. They are so dark that you can sleep any time. Last time I had one I had to set alarms or I'd sleep half the day cause I had no idea that it was daylight outside.
SLCfirsttimer Posted September 8, 2014 #16 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Besides a few cocktails and any other vices, what tricks do you use to help get quality sleep on a caribbean cruise? Sent from my SCH-I545 using Forums mobile app I have used melatonin pills to help me fall asleep, they can typically be found near the pharmacy in most grocery stores. I am a fairly heavy sleeper, so once I am out it takes quite a bit to wake me up before my alarm goes off.
KMagz Posted September 8, 2014 #17 Share Posted September 8, 2014 If you take Dramamine or Bonine, despite some formulas being "less drowsy," they still put some people out cold. (Myself included.) Double benefit if you're cruising in rough seas.
BND Posted September 8, 2014 #18 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Don't need any tricks. I do take sea sick meds (Bonine generic) and it probably does help a little (as do the cocktails) but the reality is, when I drink at home, I wake up several times a night, but on a cruise, maybe once per night. I can even sleep when it's more than gentle rocking.

thegima Posted September 8, 2014 #21 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I don't see how anyone can stay awake on a cruise if they've been out in the sun for a few hours and had a couple drinks in the evening. I sleep better on the ship than at home no question.
kwazi07 Posted September 8, 2014 #22 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Sometimes we crack the balcony open a tensey wensey bit. We can hear the ocean. Then, when one of our family members waked up about 2hrs layer to use the bathroom, she closes it. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
corjuly Posted September 8, 2014 #23 Share Posted September 8, 2014 We just got back yesterday off the allure and we our 2 kids. I used the app for my iphone relax melodies. It's free. Has a ton of noises and never stopped. Was continuous all night long. It was really loud. I just kept it plugged in all night. Worked like a charm Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare VernRDH Posted September 8, 2014 #24 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Never have had trouble sleeping on a cruise. Sea air, warm sun, the sound of the ocean, how can you have trouble sleeping with that combination? And the "mattress testing" doesn't hurt either. :D
shippmates Posted September 8, 2014 #25 Share Posted September 8, 2014 I get my best sleep on a cruise or any vacation. I think it is because I am always afraid I will oversleep so I keep waking up every few hours to see what time it is. I could live on a ship or maybe I just need to retire.
