How to cash out onboard credit on Celebrity ships

Hi,

We have more onboard credit (from our travel agent) than we expect to use, and are wondering if there is a way to convert that credit into cash. The travel agent states that the credit can't be used for gratuities or in the casino. We do not want any unused credit to go back to the credit card used to pay for the cruise, as we rarely use that particular card. Any advise from the more experienced cruisers?

Thanks!:)

I have $1000 (Exotic Sale) from Celebrity OBC when I booked in February also for my upcoming cruise on the Celebrity Solstice in December. Can I use it to pay gratuities?

If the OBC is directly from your TA it's probably "refundable". You will notice an "R" in the code if you check your account on your stateroom TV. Any remaining credit will be returned to your credit card. If it is "non refundable", you will see an "N" in the code, you can cash it out at the Casino for a 5% charge. Non refundable will be deducted first if you make a purchase.

You can cash out non refundable SBC thru the Casio for a 5% fee.

If it is refundable you can cash it out thru guest relations with no extra fees.

I have also heard that if you set up a cash account instead of using a credit card than there is no fee to cash out the SBC thru the casino.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. Would we be able to cash out "nonrefundable" credit in the casino, even if the travel agent says it can't be used in the casino? If we have to have it refunded to our credit card instead of converting it to cash, does it have to go back to the card we used to pay for the cruise, or can we change it to a card that we use more often?

Thank you so much for all of your help!:)

Any non refundable OBC can be cashed out at the Casino for a 5% charge. The unused refundable credit is returned to the card that Celebrity has on record. You'd have to speak to someone in Guest Relations to see if they can place it on another card. I have no experience doing it that way.

We're booked for the Baltic next year and have $300 + $200 OBC from Celebrity, can we use this for gratuities and any shore exursions?

I would say yes and yes... You will only be able to use it for excursions booked on board not in advance!

Thanks, especially for the tip about booking the excursion on board, I probably wouldn't have thought of it:)

I believe this would also apply to other reservations like specialty restaurants or spa treatments, or drink/wine packages. If you reserve ahead of time they charge your credit card. If you book them onboard you can use OBC.

I know this question is from awhile ago, but does anyone have a good answer? Thanks.

Not sure of your question. The quote is correct. Basically anything you book on board will be paid first out of any OBCN (non-refundable) and then any OBCR (refundable - usually from your TA).

Anything purchased before you board the ship is charged to your credit card.

Any OBCR remaining at the end of your cruise will be credited to the credit card you provided at check in.

You can only use your OBC if you book your reservations while onboard -- ie: specialty restaurants, beverage packages, spa treatments, excursions, etc.

As the one subsequent post mentions, non-refundable credits will be used first and the refundable credit will be returned to your credit card on file.

As for the casino, I have read that Celebrity no longer cashes your OBC out in the casino. I guess that was being abused.

We have a $600 credit for our upcoming cruise and not having cruised for about 30 years and rarely in any casino I am rather out of touch about cashing this in. I can't see us needing to spend anything with suite benefits and the other extra's that we got for this booking.

I have read numerous posts and have an understanding from those that you just go to the money booth and give them your cruise card and ask for $600 (or whatever) in cash?

Just out of curiosity, why would this be allowed? I can only guess it is for people who do not carry cash, wish to gamble and essentially have it charged to their credit/charge card. Would that be about right?

As others posted it appears you can no longer take the OBC in cash but only promo chips that must be bet once - See Constellation OBC thread. Cash is indeed for those that want to gamble. If you have OBC-N from Celebrity you either spend it or lose it.

Where -Spa, specialty dining venues, shops, excursions. And yes the $$ is to allow people to gamble.

We did that. We, too, had more OBC than we could spend and saw a sign in the casino saying that we could get cash from our cruise card.

There was a 5% fee but weren't worried as it was 'free' money!

We're on the Silhouette now, second part of our B2B. Last week, we had no problem cashing out our Non-refundable OBC less 5%. I expect to do the same this week.

There were great deals on Specialty restaurants. Loved the Lawn Club and Tuscan Grill.

A friend on Facebook posted this sign. Slot credits cannot be cashed out. They must be played and any winnings over and above the credit amount can be cashed out.

Thanks to all for your comments and knowledge. I guess it will be a toss up between putting it all on the split red/black bet on a roulette table or a new hand bag. Must admit I favour the roulette table, but my view may be zapped by a mystical force on my partners side saying the force is stronger for (another) new bag !!!

Once again thanks for all the replies.
