Hi Radio thanks so much for the studio balcony photos. I'm also on deck 6 in the same type of cabin next April and appreciate the photos. I was worried that the balcony would be very small and too closed in but it doesn't appear that way from your photo. Have a wonderful cruise and looking forward to coming along too!

Thanks again Anne

Anne, We all love Radio's reports and beautiful pics! Perhaps you didn't realize you can reply without adding the pics again. The thread is so much easier to read without the repeats. Just a suggestion.

Hello everyone . . .

We are out to sea. We left the pier at precisely 8PM. The Captain announced that we may be leaving between 7 and 7:30; however, there appeared to be some late passengers or crew boarding right up until we pulled away from the pier.

We are currently heading South just a few miles east of the New Jersey coastline. When I wake up in the morning, I will try to figure out what our course will be. Maybe we’ll just navigate in circles, or maybe we’re going to head down to the Virginia coast and back North.

I was able to visit several places today on board; however, I still have much more to go and I will try to get to every area tomorrow if possible. The areas that I’ve seen so far have been spectacular and I really believe that this new “Smart Environment” will be a big winner for Royal Caribbean as all passengers seem to love it. The best thing is that there will be several months of training on this “new process” before Anthem of the Seas is delivered in the Spring.

I was able to dine this evening at Jamie’s Italian. I can’t remember when I was able to consume such a variety of fresh and delicious Italian specialties. I ordered the Meat Plank and the Free Range Chicken. The meal took over 2 hours but it was spectacular.

There will not be any alcohol or tobacco sold during this two night cruise. I overheard crew telling passengers that the reason alcohol and tobacco will not be sold is that we are not in international waters. I think they should have just suggested that it is a two night cruise to nowhere and there will not be any Customs agents when we return. It was a little strange that alcohol was sitting on the shelf but passengers were being told that they could not make a purchase. How about let’s close the store if we can’t sell it.

Here are a few pics from today.

Thanks for tuning in.

I was just on the 3 day. Everyone had to go through customs and fill out a customs declaration. It was extremely fast with no lines.

Hi Radio,

On the 3 day cruise, we hugged the coast heading south and turned around at Cape Hatteras. Speed was consistently around 12 knots. We briefly crossed into the Gulf Stream, and for a few hours, the temperature warmed up significantly before cooling back down as we headed back home.

They didn't sell alcohol or tobacco on our sailing, but we still had to fill out the customs form and pass through customs/immigration upon our return. In fact, our agent asked us very directly if we made any purchases such as jewelry, perfume, clothing, souvenirs, etc.

Love love love the pictures of the solo balcony!!! Can't wait for Jan to actually see it. Looks like you are in a '52' room. I'm booked in the '48' room which should have an even bigger balcony! The TV looks enormous - too bad there probably won't be anything to watch on it if the programming is the same as my recent EX repo cruise.

What does the bathroom look like?

Enjoy enjoy enjoy.

Radio, your pictures are fantastic. Just wondering if they allow 2 people in a studio cabin, since it seems to have the bigger bed? I wonder how they would price a cabin like that. The balcony looked great.

I also noticed that when the Quantum sails away in the dark, that it looks so dark where the cabins are. Usually you can see the lights on in many cabins on other ships as they sail away. Not so much on the Quantum. Just looked odd to me.

Enjoy your "mini" cruise. It may be short, but on your full length cruise, you will be able to find your way around, without too much trouble. Smart planning...;)

Gwen :)

I read that to keep your lights on in the cabin you need to put your room key in a slot in your cabin. Maybe with so many people out and about the room lights aren't left on.

Gwen, the RCI website says "can sleep up to 2" even though it calls it a a "single occupancy stateroom". I could see 2 people in there for a short cruise or if they were going really casual and didn't need a lot of stuff/clothes, but we couldn't do it in that small a space without seating.

Radio, thank you for this great report. Do you think there is anyway you cold grab a few shots of either of the Two E1 balcony cabins that are towards the rear of your single balcony. Maybe as the doors are open for departure cleaning. They are supposed to have a couch but I've heard there is only a chair because they are shorter but they have wider balconies. Thanks for trying if you can.
