No more Carnival for us

After booking 3 cabins for 7 people on the Imagination the price drops. Carnival tells me that since we paid in full nothing can be done (booked with a TA). The diff is only $100 and tried to bargain it down to $25 but no go. I gave our booking numbers for 2 other cruises and still nada. Carnival just lost the 2 other bookings. They did not care. I understand I paid for the original booking but not budging a little is not a way to keep 7 guests from going to another line. Flame on

You purchased the cruise under a particular set of rules. Based on that did you meet the criteria for a price reduction?

For example if you booked ES you should get it. If you booked another category and you are after final payment why would you expect money back?

Likely you are done with cruising.

ALL cruise lines have similar if not identical policies.

Now...if you had purchased travel insurance, as is strongly recommended, you would have a method to recover your money.

Maybe keep that in mind for next time.

Since you booked with a travel agent, why don't you let your agent handle the issue for you?

You are fortunate that someone at Carnival even spoke with you since you did use a TA. As for paying in full, when is the cruise? Are you past final payment? What rate did your agent book for you? There are a lot of factors to consider before you get upset with Carnival.

Not flaming, simple pointing out that you were not eligible for the OBC. Those are the rules. I booked ES and need change the cruise date. I had to pay the $50 penalty. Was I happy about it? No. But that was part of the rate I booked. I knew the rules when I booked . Oh and just so you know I had 4 staterooms and 9 people. And, if you view my cruise history you will see I am loyal to Carnival.

I am sorry that your TA didn't explain the rules to you so that you would understand the terms of your agreement. I think your displeasure should be geared to them not Carnival.

If you booked through a TA why are you even talking to Carnival ? Your TA controls your booking. If you booked Early Saver you are entitled to a price drop after final payment up to 2 days before sailing. And your TA knows this. Maybe your TA doesn't want to reduce their commission by honoring the price drop?

Sure thing. I'll never understand why people get upset with Carnival when they do not book early saver but expect the same fare rules. Carnival absolutely did nothing wrong here yet you choose to never cruise with them again because they will not bend the rules for you. Let me know how it works out for you when you try to alter the fare rules on other cruise lines.

They make you pay for what you see and gave a 48 hr guarantee. When they change the price 49 hrs later you are stuck. Very deceptive practice. As I said they just lost 7 cruisers for $25 dollars. Still taking the cruise but no money will be spent by 7 guests. Will go back to Oceania and will try Princess out of L.A. Our booking gave us a $50 obc but the fare dropped $100, times 3 cabins.

That happens with all cruise ships guess cruising may not be for you...if you book early saver and the price drops, your given the lower rate with no fees/penalties and problems, the trick is to know your prices and how you are booking your rooms, whether you can make changes or not. Generally on all other cruise lines if you pay in full your stuck with what you got they are the same rules with all cruise lines.

Did not meet the criteria based on our booking. ( my bad). If Carnival can't budge $25.00 for 7 quests on 3 sailings so be it. 25+ cruises' never had a Cruise line so hard set. 10 with Carnival Bye Bye Carnival

$25 x 1000 cruisers = pissed off shareholders.

OP -

Do you say the same thing to the airlines when they offers fares cheaper than what you booked?

It's no different. Carnival is in the busniess to make money.

Like others have said, all the other cruise lines have the same policy. The only way you could have come out with that savings is if you had booked Early Saver.

You should have booked Early Saver. If you wait to book you are gambling that the price won't go down. I get huge amounts of OBC every cruise thanks to early saver. We have booked closer to sail date and the price has gone down, but I knew when we booked it was a chance I took.

Something about this whole situation doesn't add up to me. I booked a cruise once with a TA - I had a question and called Carnival - they very politely told me the account was out of their hands and to call the TA. I can understand that. My call had nothing to do with pricing - just a question about a cabin. When you book with a TA you are out of Carnival's hands. Period.

Everyone that has been cruising for a period of time, understands the way the industry works as the vessel fills the price increases until the date gets near. Purchasing a cruise is like playing in the casino, you got to make the deal when you feel the price is right for you and have to understand that some may be paying more and some less than you. That is just how it works.

It is vacation, after all.

When I book a cruise I know what can spend, I book early enough to get the location I want and to put myself in line for some nice early booking airfares (the place where I really save money). Then I pay it and don't even think about looking at the fares again. I got what I want, at the price I could afford etc.
