c-legs Posted January 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2015 In spite of the aloof reaction from Essiesmom, thank you for posting. I wish we had both the means and the disposition to spend 95% of our years aboard..... Cheers

notentirelynormal Posted January 22, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2015 That and the fact that I couldn't open the other link without a bunch of spam so it is nice to be able to read the article being referenced.
LilBlackDress Posted January 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2015 I had never read the article before... buchhalm Posted January 22, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2015 Superb! why not? New people and company all the time, things to do, entertainment.... Nice! I hope they do her laundry for free! :-) According to the artice, the lady pays nearly $450 a day for the privilege. Would be intersting to know what that would cost on less exclusive ships. Krazy Kruizers Posted January 22, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2015 And we should all be so lucky to have good health at her age (we don't and are a little younger than her) and to have the wealth to live like that.
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 22, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 22, 2015 I thought the same thing. In fact when I saw the article I thought it was about another lady. Mama Lou?? She has sailed for many years on HAL for weeks at a time. But does take breaks to -- as she says -- take care of business.
Folk Singer Posted January 22, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 22, 2015 It has been worked out on various threads that you could Cruise full time onboard for about 30-50k per year per couple with no land ties. (e.g.. property and taxes plus maintenance, car and insurance, groceries, cable etc.) The longer you live onboard the better your perks will become over time. Change ships so you stay in North American/Caribbean waters for most of the year. Like Super Mario on RCCL who has over 5000+ sea days.

editor@cruisecritic Posted January 22, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 22, 2015 Cool story, right? Loved the post about how you can do it for a tad less than $164K! There have been a handful of others. It's not typically promoted by cruise lines, but I had a chance some years back to talk with a lady named Lorraine, who lived on Royal Princess all year around. And there, famously, was the woman who lived aboard QE2 -- in a tiny inside cabin, mind you. A pal who is onboard Oriana shared that there's a gentleman doing this on this P&O ship. We're curious, and posted this in our blog yesterday: If you could live on a cruise ship, which ship would you pick? Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 22, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 22, 2015 Change ships so you stay in North American/Caribbean waters for most of the year. Why? I'd want to travel all over, not stay in the same area.

tbonecopper Posted January 22, 2015 #18 Share Posted January 22, 2015 There is also "The World", they're all condos at sea. http://aboardtheworld.com/ Seems to be really nice, and I'm sure a pretty penny.
jamessemaj Posted January 22, 2015 #19 Share Posted January 22, 2015 I thought the same thing. In fact when I saw the article I thought it was about another lady. I have heard rumors of mysterious elderly ladies on other ships I have been on, but 2 years ago I actually saw 2 Spanish gentlemen on the Adventure OTS on a reposition from San Juan to Spain. They had taken the previous fall reposition to San Juan and stayed on the ship for the full winter season. They were sort of celebrities on the ship and everybody knew of them. They were somewhat eccentric and wore a variety of costumes to dinner every night.

Krazy Kruizers Posted January 22, 2015 #23 Share Posted January 22, 2015 I thought it was cute that she selected the cruise line where she could have someone to dance with! Marianne That is why she left HAL. HAL only has dance hosts on the World Cruise and parts of the Grand Voyages.

sail7seas Posted January 23, 2015 #25 Share Posted January 23, 2015 The crews on ships with a 'resident guest' are usually very protective of them. They are vague if asked about them and really look after them. :)
