Breeze American Table Menus

I hate change. This is why I haven't tried a new cruise line and why I usually vacation in the same places each year. I have my meal I like at every restaurant in town. I don't like certain foods and flavors and don't want to try new things that I may not like. I am not at all interested in the port of call menu. I don't like spicy food that seems so prevalent in the Caribbean. I don't eat on the islands at all. This change is not good for me and the rest of my family is also quite disappointed.

Jeff, in any of your conversations we other passengers, what was the feeling about it?

From what I have heard, when the American Table was first rolled out, it was missing a lot of the favorites, such as the cold soups, entrees such as the spaghetti carbonara, amongst others. Also, the lack of tablecloths, and sharing appetizers was a negative. Right from the get go, they began tweaking the menu, adding back many of the old favorites. By the time I sailed the Liberty it was over 6 months since the change over, so I didn't recall missing any of my favorites. Appetizers could be ordered individually, and there were tablecloths every night.

Trying something new!! Sounds good to me. I'm sure it is a work in progress. Hopefully, Carnival will be able to please most of the people most of the time. I am more than willing to try the new menus before I start complaining.

Its been a work in progress for how many years now?

I loved being able to order things al a cart. Some nights I dont feel like a potato and its a waste to give me one.

You can do this with the old menu too...every time I ordered prime rib I would ask for just the meat, no potato. Nothing new there.

I experienced American Table on the Liberty last August, which was several months after its rollout. At that point they had tweaked it quite a bit.

I absolutely loved it, and prefer it to the old menus. I hope Splendor has it by the time we sail in October.

I have tried to search but it appears no one has posted pictures of these tweaked menus. It would be nice if anyone traveling soon could take pictures and post them. If I saw that there were some items I still enjoyed I may not be so ambivalent. The menus that have been posted to John's blog site and by Zydecocruiser are so unappetizing to me that I may not eat in the MDR at all.

I just saw a post from John Heald saying

"In mid February the Carnival Breeze will change to the exciting American Table menus". We made some changes after listening to you and added more soups, salads and other choices and so I am sure this will be a brilliant change for this ship. And yes, we will have tablecloths.

Hi Moran4carnival :)

Thank you for your post. I am looking forward to the new main dining room menu, with changes, during our 14-day May sailing aboard the Breeze.

Having said that, I'm also looking forward to the many other food options the Breeze has to offer, such as the Chef's Table, the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, the Cucina del Capitano Italian restaurant, Bonsai Sushi restaurant, Blue iguana Cantina, Guys Burgers, Mongolian Wok, the Deli & Tandoor, the island inspired snacks from the RedFrog Pub, snacks from the Taste Bar and so much more!

My tummy just rumbled, LOL!

Have a wonderful day!

:)

I expect something that I am satisfied with and exceeds my expectations. That is the goal of the restaurant industry and is the building block that keeps customers returning.

They get away with the lower quality because of all those who have the attitude they're just glad to be on a cruise. Maybe when it's bologna sandwiches on Lido....

I have food porn from the American Table in my Liberty review. I am now sorry I didn't photograph the menus.

I love change, which is why we aren't loyal to one cruiseline. :D We have two cruises on the Breeze this year and I can't wait to try the new menu's. I cruised twice with Carnival in 2013 and we thought the menu's were really lacking on some days with nothing particularly exciting. Although the desserts were definitely a step-up from RCI's unappealing offerings and they look even better on some of the new table menu's I've seen so far!

trvlgirlmq - I do not like a lot of spicy food either but can find lots of other options. What is it you like so much on the old menu?

Let's see I always order the cream of broccoli, yukon potato and lobster bisque soups and the crab cake. When those aren't offered it's a Caesar salad. I love the brisket, lobster and shrimp with mashed potato, boneless short ribs and chateaubriand. The pork steak was ok on my last cruise as well. The cakes are always way to dry and the WCMC is not cooked enough so I usually skip dessert except for Bitter n Blanc which I could eat an entire pan of if they would let me.

The new menus appear to have nothing similar and it's lots of weird seafood.

As someone who grew up in casino land Nevada if I never saw another buffet that would suit me just fine but I think I see a lot of them in my future.

I believe those are the original menus from Dec 2013...so there are updated versions out there. And JH mentioned that they have updated the menus and more info is coming.

I know that is why I have been searching for a post with updated menus.

When we first decided to try a cruise I spent months researching and that included about the food. I looked at every menu I could find from the major lines. I looked at pictures and read report after report. I can understand changes but to entirely take away the things that most people seem to like and replace with things that are so different is ridiculous. My local restaurants often add new dishes while either maintaining their current menu or removing the least popular items. You don't tick off your base customer because of experimentation.

I am personally really excited about American Table, and do hope that the Freedom gets those menus by the time we cruise in November...I'm actually looking forward to it.

I love to try new things, and so I'm excited to try out their new menus. We are also trying out the steakhouse for the first time (:

But I've seen all the stuff highlighted above on the older menu's linked previously. I didn't take too much notice of the starters because I usually end up with a Caesar salad as I think Carnival's starters are really dull. :( I didn't notice any "weird" seafood, LOL. As someone who LOVES duck, venison and other game my favourites are really under-represented big time but I don't expect the cruiselines to cater for me personally. :D

I agree about most of the cakes but I now never expect much with cruiseline desserts - I can find better cakes in my local sandwich shop at work. I don't get the fuss about the WCMC and Bitter n Blanc either. Again, I've had better stuff than that out of a shop and heated in the microwave.

I am also a very picky person but it really surprises me that you cannot find something on the new menus that you would like. Now, first of all the menu's on Zydeco's site are the older ones and probably do not have the changes that have been made since it first rolled out. However, every day there is an option of chicken breast, salmon, pork chop and flat iron steak. Those are pretty basic main courses and should satisfy even the pickiest eater.

There are 9-10 main courses each day to choose from. You cannot find anything in those choices to eat?

Confused about this. I personally do not like fish (just shrimp & crab) and I recognize all the seafood on the menu's on Zydeco's site. Which is weird? Shrimp, Salmon, Mahi Mahi, Tilapia, red snapper.

On the new menu, is the lobster and shrimp combo still available? This entrée was something I enjoyed on the old menu for elegant night. :o

It appears that you are making the assumption that EVERYTHING that was on the old menus, is NOT available on the American Table menus. That is far from the truth. I had many of my old favorites while on the Liberty, including the lobster and grilled shrimp on Elegant Night. Don't even look at those roll out menus from 2013. Totally different.

So we sailed the Liberty just a little over 2 weeks ago, and they had the American Table menus....honestly, from all the other cruises we have taken on Carnival, it looks more to me like it was just a "marketing name change"....because the options that you ca order seem to be the same as our other cruises on Carnival.....just the menus look nicer, and they are arranged slightly different. We did see a lot of the original items on the menu, and a few new items. To be honest, I think everyone has blown this way out of proportion. One other note...I did try one of the new items that is on the menu every day......bacon mac and cheese...I am not a mac and cheese fan, HOWEVER.....the bacon mac and cheese on the American Table menu is REALLY good!!!!! Again, don't worry about it as the food is fine.

I also enjoyed it on the Liberty in September, pretty sure we had tablecloths too.

Here are the American Table menus from Zydeco's cruise on the Imagination this past November. Much more current, and include the Steakhouse Selections.....

Thank you Jamman54!! Atfer seeing these updated menus, I'm starting to feel better about it. These are a huge improvement from what I experienced in the early stages.
