Canadian cruisers!!

Recommended Posts

I purchased $200 US for $220 CAD and received an email confirmation.

I logged onto the R C website but can't find it on my profile. Where can I find my OBC?

Thanks!

I asked for a confirmation and received an e-mail showing my 2 requests. The rep did say there would be a card in our cabin as well. I will take the e-mail with us.

What an interesting topic of discussion.

If I were to take out an OBC of $1,000 U.S., from what I have read on this post, I assume it will cost me $1,100.00 CDN and that is what would be charged on my credit card now. Assuming that I did not spend a single $ on this cruise (except for the daily gratuity charge), am I correct in thinking that I can go to guest services on the last night of the cruise and receive $1,000.00 cash in U.S. Funds.

Yep, and I too wonder what the catch is but enough people are spending it through and not over playing this deal that it continues... I'm really tempted to add another few hundred bucks to the obc because I can always used usd cash and feel like there's nothing to lose...

Just remember if y y ou have the OBC in your account they will automatically use it for the items you are charged for. So, even if you spent no money, the OBC would be used for your gratuities, billed daily. If you somehow did not use the OBC for the gratuities, like you paid them prior to sailing, you would have them billed to your credit card at an exchange rate of roughly 30%, so would have to wait to spend your USD toget any benefit. paynow, pay later, it is a quandary!

If I buy obc for Oct. 2016 Harmony TA at 1.10 and lets say I cancel that cruise in April 2016, what would happen to the obc? Back on my credit card at 1.10 rate? Or could I book another cruise, say for March 2017 and apply that obc to that cruise? Don't know how long this deal is going to last, so want to buy as much for future cruises as possible.

Thanks,

Tony

I was wondering the same thing.

You are charged to your Canadian credit card in Canadian funds at the already converted Royal Caribbean rate. The refund goes back on your card in the same manner. For example, you want obc in the amount of $500 US. Royal Caribbean charges your Cdn card $550 Cdn. There is no bank conversion because the company already did it. You cancel your cruise and your card is credited back for the obc the same amount in Canadian funds that you paid to begin with.

Just FYI as I am sure a lot of you already know.

Most credit cards charge 2.3% foreign exchange charge. We have started using a Sears MasterCard for US expenses as they do not apply this charge. There are a few others but this is the one we use.

Do you have to wait until the last night of the cruise, or can you take your OBC out and use it as cash whenever you want?

Hi Robyn, if you set up your on board account as a cash account many people are reporting that you can withdraw up to $500 at a time at the casino without the 5% fee. Of course there are still a couple of ships or employees that are not aware of this and have charged the 5% fee.

At guest services you have to wait until the last night.

Based on what I've read here you can get cash at the casino when open, but otherwise have to wait till end of cruise.

And if you have a CC on your account, there's a 5% fee to get cash in casino, even if you have tones of obc. So what I've read here is to set up your account as "cash", then there's no 5% fee and you can get money from casino whenever.

Note some people say they get the 5% fee regardless, but are ok with that because 1.10+0.05 is still way better than 1.33...

Okay, thanks for your responses (we are all up early on a Sunday morning!) I am on a b2b in November, and so I can get whatever remains in my account from the first cruise in cash on the last night? I have always had a credit card account - never considered a cash account. Don' they put a limit on how much you can spend? I never worry about it with a CC. More explanation on a cash account would be great :)

You can spend up to $500 on a cash account before being asked to pay it down but if you have $1000 OBC then you could spend $1500 before being asked to put any more money on your account"

You can also add a credit card to your file near the end of the cruise to avoid the line at guest services the last day to settle your account.

Thanks Ken - this is exactly the information I was looking for. :)

Instead of putting all of your OBC on the first cruise why not split it up and put the same on both cruises?

Set up your Seapass initially as a cash account, take money out at casino on day 2 for some shoreside cash and then add a credit card to your file to make checkout after cruise 1 easy.

Okay, you are confusing me lol.

So now you are saying I can take money out at the casino on day 2 - I don't have to wait until the last night to take money out?I thought the OBC was untouchable altogether until the last night of the cruise......

There is no $500 limit in the casino in our experience. This was true on Adventure in April (self/dh and 4 friends - total $3000 obc in 3 cabins) Freedom in March (son and 9 friends - total $10,000 obc in 5 cabins) and Indy in August (friends -$4000 obc in 2 cabins). We have definitely made great use of this offer. Just for the sake of information, not one of us paid a service charge in the casino but I had also made sure everyone knew to set up a cash account. I had to remind the cage person once that I had a cash acct and should not be charged. Also have friends sailing later this month in 4 cabins and they have also taken advantage of this offer. I almost want to book another cruise just to get the deal again:)

Guest services is the last night but the casino is anytime that the casino is open.
