Canadian cruisers!!

Recommended Posts

I am going to be sailing on the Jewel in four weeks and want to take advantage of this great exchange rate. We've always set up our accounts as credit card payment. How do you set it up as cash? Is this a stupid question, LOL ?? I'd like to be able to withdraw the cash at the end without the 5% service fee.

Thanks so much :)

You select the type of account as part of the online check-in process.

I have already done it as credit card before I knew about this great deal. How do I change it to cash?

Just go back and re-do that section of your online check-in. You can also change it during the real check-in.

We just got off ROS yesterday and although we had set up a cash account and had no credit card on file we WERE charged the 5% when we took cash out at the casino. My DH protested slightly but the cashier was adamant. Perhaps we could have taken it higher but even with the fee we still felt that we'd come out ahead.

Thank you - I can see that now on the check-in.

So... if it's set up as cash, it will just draw on your OBC and then if you should go over your OBC, you would have to settle on the last day? Do you know if you could put it on a credit card at that point? That's not likely to happen because it would defeat the purpose of being able to withdraw U.S. cash at the end. But just wondering. Never done it this way before.

You can add a credit card to your account at any time at guest services.

If you have a cash account and go over they will let you charge up to $500 before they ask you to pay the balance down.

When reading the fine print on the gift shop "buy OBC" page it is really hard to understand! Is there a way to purchase OBC which can be used to pay off your remaining cruise cost before final payment? We pd deposit, but still owe lots. Have a Cdn$ account. I know I would purchase usa$ with my cdn$, but wonder if they would use the 10% exchange rate, or the 30% rate to pay off my Cdn debt. Hope this makes sense . Thx

The OBC purchased at the favourable rate can only be used on board.

If your cruise is booked in CDN$ then there is no issue with exchange rates when you pay it off.

If your cruise is booked in US $ then you cannot purchase the OBC. At the favourable rate.

Just got off the Indy today, we had no problem with withdrawing $500 a day per person at the casino. There was no 5% charge, we had set up a cash account. The last day we withdrew the final cash at guest services, no problem at all! It was a fantastic deal!

Sorry for being dense, but I'm still a bit confused why I'd want to be "cash" account instead of backing it up with a CC.

I have $200obc from booking promo, and bought $500 obc under the 10% cdn promo discussed here. I also have a CC on file backing it up from checkin - I assumed that will just come into play after the $700 is spent.

Would I only want it to be "cash" if I'm planning to do a casino withdrawal? Basically even if I have $700 obc, I'll get dinged 5% at casino as long as I have a CC on file?

As a cash account you will not be charged the 5% fee for withdrawing money at the casino. Some people want to withdraw the money early in the cruise to use at the ports and not wait until the last day for Royal to refund it at guest services.

Yes, even with a $700 OBC if you have a CC on file you will pay the 5% at the casino.

Ok, so I do get it :)...

I still fell like there's a catch here, I don't know why every Canadian doesn't put as much down as possible here as it's basically 20% free money if you're comfortable moving the cash around. I have the kind of luck where I'll sink another $1,000 into this only to discover some catch later, or they put some rule change that hits me in a worse way....

So tempting to add another grand....

Thank you for this recent confirmation. Were you able to take out money on day 1? I'm tempted to withdraw as the ship sails out so I have my port money for St Thomas the following day.

As soon as the casino opens you should be good to go.

We took out $500 on the first night of sailing. We had a total of $4600 U.S. On board credit. No one asked us anything, they really didn't care. We were skeptical on this deal, it does sound too good to be true but we figured worse case scenario the money would go back on our CC.

We did this last week for our cruise in Feb. Called to put $500 down and was charged $550. I was so excited by the exchange rate called and put another $600 down and it cost me $660. The exchange rate cost me $110. I would have paid $ 1381 at the bank.Saved $281 by getting Royal to do it for me. I am not looking forward to what our Nov cruise will cost with the dollar diving.

THIS IS AMAZING!!!! Could you tell me if you haven't spent all of your OBC - will they give you this back in Dollars or will they ONLY put it back on your Credit card?

Okay, so this is pretty amazing. Just bought $1,000 OBC this morning for our upcoming cruise. I have the confirmations that show what I paid for the OBC in Cdn - $1,100. However, it doesn't actually show the amount I bought, i.e. $1,000 U.S or the exchange rate. Has this been a problem at all? That's the only thing that makes me a bit nervous. I would be more at ease if it said $1,000 U.S. somewhere on the confirmation.

We bought $1000US OBC for $1100CAD for our last cruise on Radiance and our confirmation email only showed the $1100 purchase amount and the $1000US OBC was credited to our onboard account without a problem.

We have the same $CAD amount paid confirmation for the OBC we purchased for our next two cruises, B2B on Freedom.

Sure wish we hadn't booked with an On Line Company that is American based...:(:

We are not applicable to take advantage of this GREAT DEAL. I would cancel and re-book with another, but we have booked 6 other Cabins of first time cruisers and did get a pretty good deal.

I think it would throw them all into a tizzy if i said we are all going to cancel !!!:eek::eek:

Next time for sure!!

No problem at all. We printed our receipts just in case. The credit shows on your account on the third day. (On the tv in our cabin). We started taking cash out on the first day. At the end of the cruise we went to guest services and cashed out around$ 600. You get all the money in cash right down to the last penny!
