Which fee will be the straw that breaks your back?

The PCC certainly knows the ship I am on and my reservation number. Not only did I ask in conversation but I emailed and then emailed another PCC as well to verify. I then emailed NCL Social Media and they corroborated. I did not think the wording from Social Media was as concrete as it was from my PCC so I have emailed again, very specifically, and am awaiting their response. As it stands now though I have two emails from NCL email addresses stating no charges for any kids club programming.

Please post back what you hear. I have friends that want to join me, but we were both convinced after the survey there was a hourly charge. Thank you.

My breaking point has always been that when I can get a better deal for the same category of cabin, to the same destination, with all the same perks and amenities, for a lower price than what it would cost me on Norwegian ... Then I will switch.

 

Right now... there is no danger of that happening when you comparison shop.

That's your opinion / feeling, and that's fine, but it sure would be nice to know that the cruise you booked is what you get in terms of features, amenities, and inclusions. Is NCL cheaper than XYZ even with a $5 here or a $10 fee there? Sure. Okay. But why does that override getting what you bargained for? You've got to admit that when NCL plays Calvinball with costs it's not a great feeling as a consumer.

So which unannounced, slapped in, "for your convenience" fee will be the one that finally breaks your back as far as NCL goes?

 

This new CEO seems to have Gonewild on new charges and people are clearly upset. Just curious what your own individual breaking point is going to be?

 

It would cost us a fortune to switch now to Liberty of the Seas, and don't like that itinerary, so we are "in it" with NCL for this summer to Bermuda, but after that we're going to have to start looking at other cruise lines or other vacations. When they fee you every 5 feet it makes it hard to relax, at least for me it does.

 

None will hurt in the long run and when are you and others going to get tired posting new threads about the damn increases. Get over it, stop beating a dead horse. Obviously the share holders are not upset, the stock has climbed every day this week, but I am not sure about today. It was off a few cents this morning!!!!!

Oh for the love of God ... Please stop. This entire board is about the fees now. it is seriously time to stop.

 

I came to read some reviews and every post is about the fees. We leave on Saturday on the Getaway and I have paid my DSC upfront and won't be eating at any of the speciality dining areas and may only get one drink. I am going to relax and have a great time. I will be checking my bill every other day to make sure nothing fishy is going on and if there is I will let Guest service know.

 

So lets move on!!!

I don't get aggravated with prices until I am told that I will owe more once I have paid my final payment. Once that is paid, there should not be any further increases that affect me and my vacation. Those that have paid the final payment should be grandfathered into any price difference whether it is an increase in specialty restaurants, daily service charges or whatever else they can think of. I signed up for a specific cruise, with the cruise ship advertising certain things that you are to get just to be told later on that nope, we are now charging extra.

Have you checked prices lately? The same cruise I sailed last fall out of Venice is now almost double for the same category, itinerary, etc. for their 2016 sailing than what I paid. I used to always find NCL had better pricing that RCL but that is no longer true. I am seeing higher fares for NCL than RCL in many itineraries now.

For me, it isn't that they raised the prices. That I get. It is how they went about raising that revenue. The new management seems to think I'm stupid. They have likely lost my future business because of their conduct. I've fired companies over smaller details. Firing NCL is no big deal, there are plenty of people who want my vacation dollars.

Well, of course the stockholders are pleased. Anything that appears to put more money into the company and therefore into their pockets would make them feel better. But as for my DH and myself, we are definitely concerned. We're doing our cruise on a shoestring budget and things will definitely be tight. If it gets too tight we'll either re-book the unique itinerary for a smaller stateroom or we'll have to cancel all together.

I would like to see a fee imposed in order to enter the casino

 

Like $100 per player per cruise. Maybe more

 

 

This way there will be fewer slot players just sitting there smoking.

For DW and I, it would be watering down of suite benefits, like they almost did by allowing people to pay $99 to have priority boarding and have breakfast/lunch with those of us in suites. We like the exclusivity and privacy of the suites.

The only reason we would stop looking to NCL as our first choice is if they got rid of freestyle dining and put the base price up loads.

 

We always look at different lines and in comparison NCL offers a better price than Royal Carribbean, and the style of cruise they offer appeals a lot more than P&O, MSC, and Costa. We managed to get a much cheaper deal on P&O, but didn't enjoy it and probably wouldn't go on them again. We enjoyed Thomson but only if the price is low enough.

 

We are happy to pay for the extras we want, as opposed to paying a higher fee for everything being included. If we wanted it all included we would go with Oceania and pay twice as much.

 

People go on about "nickel and diming" like it's a heinous crime: I would much rather pay a lower base fee and pay for what we have on top than pay a higher price overall.

 

I just think it's a shame that people are actually going on their holiday with a negative "I hate it" attitude based on a few rises in costs to things that you aren't forced to have.

I don't think it'd be an optional fee that'd chase me away. As stated above, monkeying around with freestyle would make a big difference, as well as markedly increasing base price and excursion prices. The latter seems to be happening on the itineraries I'm looking at, but fortunately not the former. NCL will likely lose me if they remove the all-jeans-all-the-time and eat-when-where-and-with-whom-you-want ethos, and institute some sort of traditional piss-elegance experience instead of a comfortable cruise vacation. I might go away if NCL seriously downgraded service and entertainment, since they're head and shoulders above most cruiselines at that sort of thing. Another point of consideration would how NCL treats solo cruisers moving forward.

I guess I'm confused, and have been for some time.

Aside from the new "trial" fee for room service, what does NCL charge for that other mainstream lines don't also charge for?

Alcohol, bottled water, bingo, specialty restaurants, photos, specialty coffees, fresh-squeezed OJ, etc. I get charged for all of those on other lines as well.

 

Yeah, I certainly understand being PO'd about arriving on a ship to find a new charge for room service that no one was made aware of beforehand, but, aside from that, how is NCL "nickel-and-diming" more than anyone else?

 

Seems like a recurring theme, and I guess I just don't get it.

With all of the new fees NCL is really turning what was once an mostly inclusive vacation into one where I have to think about what I'm spending money on at each step. I could just as easily go on carnival or Royal Caribbean and not worry about all Auto gratuities increased DSC room service charges and the like. However if I want to book a suite and not pay super high prices and ****** still my only option
