question about tendering

Our family is considering NCL for a family reunion. If one of the families has a suite, can they acquire priority tender tickets for the whole group regardless of what category of room the others have?

 

Our prior experience is with Oceania and given the size of their ships we've not had to tender much and when we do, one person acquires the tender ticket for the group who must be all present.

 

Sorry, but we've not cruised with NCL before so I've become the researcher for this reunion.

No... but remember that the family in the suite is free to board the tenders with the rest of their group in the standard tender process.

the best thing to do is to get an early start to get the boarding tickets. Sometimes you can pick them up the night before. after 8pm

I've heard of some being able to take their entire party and have heard of some that were told no. I would suggest you ask your Concierge for a definite answer, as it seems it depends on the Concierge.

 

If it is anything like when I tendered on NCL, you get a letter from the Concierge the night before telling you where to meet. If you plan on asking if your entire party could go, I would ask your Concierge the day before.

On our cruise last year, my husband and I were in a suite, but my parents were not. We did not have to tender, so this specifically did not come up, but my parents were welcome to join us when we were seated early for the shows. We asked the concierge very nicely and it wouldn't have been a big deal if we were told no. But, we were only asking for show seating and not tender tickets. The concierge staff was very nice about the whole situation and were constantly checking to see if my parents were going to be joining us anytime they booked something for us. However, that was just two additional people and we never considered bringing them into the Haven for any of those perks.

 

If you are talking about a group of 20 people and only two are in suites, then I think asking for priority tender consideration should not be done. When we were on the Epic in March, we were led down to the tender boats by the concierge. Adding a bunch of extra people to this process would have been unfair to those in the suites who did pay for this benefit.

One person can get tender tickets for all persons in their party if you get them from the tender ticket line. You can pick up as many as you need. If you are going on a tour at a tender port, if it's an NCL tour, you will meet on the ship and be escorted to the tender before tendering otherwise opens for everyone.

Just to clarify for the OP, the suite passengers don't actually get tender tickets. They get escorted to the tenders and basically get to 'cut in line' to board whenever they like. On the Gem we were actually taken down back crew stairs to avoid the lines on the main stairs.

 

So, to have non suite guest board with you, the concierge would have to approve and escort them with you. As some mentioned, I think it might depend on the size of the group you are trying to take with you. I can see a concierge being ok with 1 or 2 people, but a group of 10 might not get as welcome a reception. lol

It's usually not necessary to be "1st off!"....the 2nd tender is about 15 mins. after the 1st one!

Thanks everyone for your answers; it seems that asking the concierge is one way, another is perhaps standing in a ticket line after 8 and another is "you're on island time, don't worry about getting off the ship!"

 

I think I'll let someone from our group find out when we board! That would be a good job for a couple of them....keep them busy!!! (group would number under 10)

It is certainly possible. Years ago, the gentleman who put together a private excursion during our 'round the horn cruise and who was staying in a suite had us all meet and then the concierge escorted us to the tender (down crew stairs as a PP mentioned). There were two mini busloads of us - 32 total as I recall.

The people staying in a suite do not need tender tickets bc they get priority tendering. As far as bringing a reunion of people on the priority tendering, it's not going to happen. At most I heard of a family of 6 traveling together, and some not in a suite got to tender with the suite passengers.

The non suite passengers need to get on line for a tender ticket just like everyone else onboard who's not staying in a suite.
