Tangocherie Posted January 17, 2016 #351 Share Posted January 17, 2016 This thread has been crazily informative but I have another question .... NCL has provided me with $300 in non-refundable obc. If I buy an additional $1000 and I don't cash out in the casino (or they remove the option) ....if I spend in various locales, what gets deducted first: the refundable obc or the nonrefundable obc? The non refundable obc is deducted first.

Freckles_51 Posted January 17, 2016 #353 Share Posted January 17, 2016 (edited) Mine also shows the quantity on the page, but when you try to print in, the number of certificates gets removed. This is weird.... I printed my order summary when I bought the OBC and it's show 12 . Under vacation summary that is printed, it's show 600$ under my name and 600$ under my husband's name for a total of 1200$... When I bought mine, I printed the order confirmation that immediately popped up, it shows the qty. Under vacation summary it shows the qty When I click on "print booked items" it shows the OBC item eg "$100 On Board Credit Certificate" but does not show the qty When I click on "print vacation summary" it only shows the cruise details but none of the shore excursions and not the OBC or prepaid service charges. Perhaps there is a difference depending upon if you booked with a TA or direct with NCL? I booked with a TA Edited January 17, 2016 by Freckles_51
casofilia Posted January 17, 2016 #354 Share Posted January 17, 2016 Phone NCL and ask for an Amenity Invoice. Safest document in case there is a problem. Mike
bfamily4 Posted January 18, 2016 #355 Share Posted January 18, 2016 you can also email ncladmin@ncl.com and request and amenity invoice. I did last week and got a response in 12 hrs.

BlueJai Posted February 2, 2016 #361 Share Posted February 2, 2016 I have just purchased some OBC's for an upcoming cruise and I wanted to confirm how to go about cashing them out on board. Do you just go to the Cashier at the Casino and ask for the cash? Thanks Jai
lamchops Posted February 3, 2016 #362 Share Posted February 3, 2016 I just got my refund cheque for my POA thanksgiving cruise. It's in US funds :) that I paid $1.10 for back in November.

WOW! That took a bit of time to get. Mind me asking, how much OBC did you purchase for your cruise and how much was your refund for?? If you don't want to answer, I understand. CanadianMommyof2 Posted February 3, 2016 #365 Share Posted February 3, 2016 1.46, dang! We booked on January 18th and got 1.28. I feel as though it is an error...I would have been better off booking in USD and going with my credit card exchange rate. I compared the USD to CAN rate for my booking and I worked it out to be 1.39 but everything else is working out at 1.4641.
Canagirl Posted February 3, 2016 #366 Share Posted February 3, 2016 1.46, dang! We booked on January 18th and got 1.28. Are your extras being charged at the 1.28 rate if you log onto myncl? I feel as though it is an error...I would have been better off booking in USD and going with my credit card exchange rate. I compared the USD to CAN rate for my booking and I worked it out to be 1.39 but everything else is working out at 1.4641. Probably because they give a slight discount on the base cruise fare only if you book in CDN$ (in October it was 10% so my cruise fare was about 1.20) BUT anything else is billed at their set rate (which was 1.33 at the time). The easiest way to find out your actual rate is to log onto myncl and check how much it costs to buy $100 of onboard credit. In October, I was one of the first to book under their new policy and many thought there was an error with my booking because the cruise fare seemed to be at a different rate than everything else, but it was no error. Be sure to quote in CDN and US and book whatever is cheaper.

I compared the USD to CAN rate for my booking and I worked it out to be 1.39 but everything else is working out at 1.4641. I found the easiest way to figure out NCL's current rate is to look at the conversion for the taxes. I did a dummy booking on NCL.com and on a Canadian site that posts prices in CDN$ and it does look like NCL has changed their rate to 1.46. When I was in a similar situation, the way you can determine NCL's rate is to compare the conversion for the taxes in U.S. versus CDN. At the time of my booking (and it seems to be the case now too, a slight discount is given on the BASE FARE ONLY - not the taxes or anything else - if booking in CDN$). In October it was 10% discount on base fare ONLY. Now it looks to be only around 5%. An example - Getaway May 1 sailing. Balcony Guarantee: BASE FARE - $999 US vs $1,389 CDN (39%) Taxes - $134.51 US vs $196.93 CDN (around 46%) I would bet if you calculate the rate for any gratuities on any promos you got or if you pay the DSC in advance it will also be at 1.46 as will anything you buy in advance if the policy they put in place in October is still the same. Finding an agent with a group booking (a block of rooms) may result in a cheaper price (although the prices for group bookings soon won't be as great as they were before depending on when the group booking was made). murcor Posted February 3, 2016 #368 Share Posted February 3, 2016 Priced out a couple cruises today with my PCC, no discounts or exchange rates for Canadians. I have been spoiled with their former exchange rates
ilovetotravel1977 Posted February 3, 2016 Author #369 Share Posted February 3, 2016 You'd think they would be giving the discounts/exchange breaks while the dollar is keeping Canadians from cruising...no point in offering the exchange break when it's actually okay! casofilia Posted February 4, 2016 #370 Share Posted February 4, 2016 No wonder that NCL doesn't know whether it is Arthur or Martha!! My bank, the BMO, is quoting Buy/Sell rates of 1.3466 and 1.4134 so the median is 1.38. I bet this is a great change from yesterday!! Mike

Freckles_51 Posted March 31, 2016 #373 Share Posted March 31, 2016 Has anyone booked recently? Has NCL adjusted their rate to reflect the current bank rate? NCL current rate is close to 1.34 but that may change on April 1st since they review it every quarter, according to the cruise consultant onboard our recent cruise. burm Posted April 4, 2016 #375 Share Posted April 4, 2016 I also have the same question. I am cruising in June and want to maximize the $1.07 exchange rate from my booking back in Jan 2015.:D Aren't you lucky. :) I cashed mine out in 2 installments of $500. The cashier in the casino asked me if I would be playing the slots or tables. I answered "slots" and headed for a nearby machine to donate $5 to the cause. I was very relieved that there was no problem cashing out, as I had allowed for this money to pay for excursions to guides who asked to be paid in US.
