How often do they miss Half Moon Cay?

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be booking a cruise this week for July 5-12 for my son and I. My choices are down to the Carnival Pride leaving from Baltimore or the Norwegian Breakaway from NYC going to Bermuda. I'm strongly leaning towards the Pride because it's about a thousand dollars cheaper for a similar room (although NCL will give me the free beverage package and I have a $250 voucher with them). Baltimore is also only about a $15.00 cab ride from me. NYC is a three hour drive and $300 for parking. All things being equal, I would prefer to go to Bermuda for 3 days, but the Half Moon Cay stop brings the itineraries closer. My question is how often does Carnival miss this stop due to rough seas. I know NCL misses their private island quite a bit. I've been lucky and made it twice. This will be my first summer cruise. I don't know what kind of an impact that has on the seas.

I just sailed last week and we did miss HMC. However, the crew did tell us that this first time they had missed HMC since re-positioning back to Baltimore on March 29. It's a risk no matter when you sail to be honest. I will say that the captain did make every effort to try to get us to the island - the tenders were just bobbing WAY too much for us to board safely.

So just another sea day?

January 2015 on Liberty we missed HMC. I am 0 for 1. Not long ago this question was asked and it looks like it actually isn't that often that it is missed. I was just unlucky in my only attempt. One person replied 12 for 12.. those are good odds.

In my experience they miss calling at HMC more in winter months than in summer months.

I am 5 for 11. Last time we got our port fees returned, all $0.16 (16 cents).

You were compensated very well :). We were refunded $0.06 (6 cents) last week for missing it. I would have rather them donate the money to a charity. I witnessed many people at Customer Service yelling at the staff regarding the low amount. I felt bad for the staff.

AHOY SHIPMATES,

WAS DISCUSSING THE HMC PROBLEM AT CO'S COCKTAIL PARTY RECENTLY AND THEY SAID ABOUT 30% OF THE TIME IT WAS CANCELLED .

i SUGGESTED THAT THE CASINO SHOULD RUN A BETTING LINE ON IT.

3 TO 2 ODDS SHOULD GET THE GAMBLERS STIRRED UP. LOL

I'm 1 for 2 although we missed it due to a man who fell overboard the first night of our cruise so we went back to search for him. I'm trying again in July and crossing my fingers since out of 20+ cruises, it is my favorite port by far.

I've heard that the number is 20% (1 out of 5). Not to jinx myself, but we're 8 for 8 at HMC, with # 9 coming up in a little over 3 weeks. Fingers crossed!! :)

That is because you live right!!!

Dont spend it all in one place.

Not sure what people expect the people at customer service to do.

When you miss HMC because of the weather/sea conditions, you would not have enjoyed being there anyway! ;)...:D

True that! We were there a year ago January but it was downright chilly. Rebooked and went in April and had a fabulously perfect day. So, we are 2 for 2.

Great idea, but the losers would claim the captain was in on the action working against them!

You are so right! It can be downright chilly in the Jan/Feb time frame.

We were on a HAL cruise once in early March and the Captain honestly announced we could tender in HMC but he had decided not to do so because it was going to be pouring down rain all day.

Normal sea day things would be open and extra activities offered.

Everyone stated clapping & cheering! :D
