Leaving out of here for the first time in December. Just booked a cruise on the Jewel to the Mexican Riviera . Have never left out of the LA port nor seen the ports we are scheduled for.

Is the LA port easy to navigate?

Way to remember which port at Los Angeles you need to be at:

NCL docks/berths are at San Pedro where the Battleship Iowa is on display.

Carnival is at Long Beach where the Queen Mary is on display

Suggest you use Google Maps and get an idea of where you want to be.

If possible take a dry run to the cruise terminal.

If you are not in a panic stage and with a helping passenger looking out for

signs you will do just fine - if driving your own car or rental check out where

to park it.

Also be forewarned that the day of your cruise there will be a considerable

amount of traffic as the ship will be disembarking cruisers getting to their

transportation needs to leave the cruise terminal while you are doing just

the opposite - allow some time to negotiate the crowds and the system !

You did not say whether you were local (LA) or flying driving in the day of

or the night before the cruise. If the night before and staying at a hotel

check on leaving your car at the hotel and taking a shuttle bus or taxi to

the ship.

This way you leave the driving hassle to someone else and you will have

more time to tend to other details. Coming back use the shuttle bus or taxi

to go to the hotel and pick-up your car and be off to where you need to go.

Thanks for the info! Very helpful!

We are from Ohio so we are flying in the night before and staying at a hotel near LAX. We are booking the shuttle from NCL so that should help some of the confusion.

If you are booking the NCL shuttle you should have no problem.

The "World Cruise Center" is the Port of Los Angeles' cruise terminal located in the city of San Pedro. It is about 20 miles from LAX but, depending on the day and time, can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour because of traffic. The NCL shuttle will remove this bit of anxiety; they will know not only how to get there but also how much time to allow.

We've cruised out of San Pedro twice. It was just very similar to Miami maybe. There was nothing complex or outstanding in memory about it that I can remember. As suggested, Google it or pull up their web site. Your shuttle will be very familiar as to where to drop you.

you are doing it the right way: we always stay near LAX, well not always, we stayed in San Pedro once, and take the shuttle from the airport. You can use NCLs shuttle or one of several others that are a little less expensive. We stay at the Embassy Suites, They have a wonderful made to order breakfast and a managers cocktail hour with drinks and light appitizers each night.

Airport hotels are generally less expensive than those in a business area aka downtown.

Use the hotel free shuttle to go from the airport to the hotel and then the

next day take it back to the airport to meet the NCL motor coach* going to

the port.

* If using this service find out which baggage claim area(s) is/are the pick-up

point for the shuttle. Some of the times the only meeting point is a NCL person

walking around with a clip board manifest of those folks expected. At larger

air terminals you might see a roll about kiosk with NCL logo - check in with

that person and wait instructions of where the motor coach is for boarding.

LAX Los Angeles Airport has several of these pick-up points at least four at

the Big Four Airlines American-Delta-Southwest-United

Hotel pricing varies quite a bit - the NCL shuttle runs about $25 a person.

You could also consider taking a shuttle to a hotel in the Long Beach area

and then use the hotel's shuttle if they have one or a taxi to the port.

Maybe a less expensive route but not by much YMMV !

Really nothing complicated about this - just allow time for things to click

into place.

NCL's agents are not tipped but the drivers of any all shuttles should be

considered outside of the NCL pool and tipped.

There will be organized mad mayhem at the cruise terminal on the day of

the cruise - go with the flow - it will be over shortly and the bon voyage

drink awaits you on board - then relax to do it all over in reverse at the end

of the cruise - isn't cruising FUN (nope that is Carnivals line (FUN)).

You will have a lot to remember and experience on your next trip !

OK - use the Google Sat image LINK:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.7448843,-118.2761173,416m/data=!3m1!1e3

From the bottom of the image where the Battleship Iowa is on static display move up

and see a blimp like building and then further up is the NCL cruise terminal.

See the hash marks for the pedestrian walkway crossing the traffic lanes in front of

the terminal - cross the traffic lanes and see all the white jagged areas - THIS IS where

contract motor coach buses shuttles leave from (and arrive) - LOOK for signage for

what the venue you need. Also ASK ?s to make sure that this is correct and has not

changed !

Zoom out and look at the top of the image and see the cruise channel take a 90 degree

turn to the left - you maybe alternatively be berthed at that terminal.

The primary pier position is in line with the Battleship Iowa for reference.

You can ZOOM the map image in and out for better idea of the area.

Zoom way out and look to the right and where the I710 freeway ends at Long Beach harbor

see the Queen Mary and this is where Carnival docks - you don't want to be here !

on my Bliss cruise in Oct, i plan on coming in a day early and staying at a hotel with free shuttle to the cruise port.

havent figured out which hotel(s) that is yet

I am also going on the Bliss in October. We will stay at the San Pedro Best Western Plus. They have the shuttle to the port. It's a nice hotel. They have breakfast in the morning. Eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy last time we were there. Just make sure if you stay there that you get your shuttle time assigned to you. I wanted to change mine to an earlier time, but it was full.

We are planning to come to LA several days early to tour, prior to our October cruise on the Bliss. We would like to stay at the Hilton Universal to go to that park, as well. If we stay there until the morning of the cruise, can anyone recommend a shuttle service to the port that isn’t too expensive? Or should we just try Uber?

Here is a reference to the review I just completed. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2581330&page=3 Post 59 starts world Cruise Center pictures.

This will give you an idea of what to expect.
