Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted August 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2015 Has anyone found a deck plan for QM2 that shows her post-refit? All I can find on the website is the deck plan that goes through Jan 3 2016. They mess with cabin grades so often that I'm wondering if the boundaries from one balcony grade to another will change. Also, I looked at the 360-degree room photos and they're still showing the present décor, which is not surprising since it will still exist for almost a year. But the little layout diagram for balcony cabins does not match the existing room. Categories a through D all show the same photo and the same layout. In this layout, there are only three closets instead of the existing four (two single-width and a double). And next to the closets there's a small desk or dressing table, taking up the space of one of the "missing" closets. So is this a new layout, or has the diagram always been this way? Ray66 Posted August 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2015 The deck plans were posted on here a few weeks ago and I see you replied straight after :) http://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2235331 But I don't know if these are official Cunard plans or someone's idea of how they will look. Ray66 Posted August 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) You got me looking at the QM2 accommodation photos on the Cunard website: http://www.cunard.co.uk/cruise-ships/queen-mary-2/accommodation/britannia-club-balcony/ How's this for a blunder - entitled Club Balcony it actually shows a photo of a curved balcony cabin on the QE. The clue is in the URL: http://cdn.images.cunard.com/webimage/ModuleTabbedModuleItemMainImage/Global/Images/Ships/QE/QE%20Accommodation%20Balcony.jpg (the full URL mentions "Images/Ships/QE/QE%20Accommodation%20Balcony.jpg" ) Edited August 6, 2015 by Ray66
Rare BlueRiband Posted August 6, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) There do not yet appear to be any officially released post-refit deck plans. Focus groups are still being consulted on the refit proposals. I know this for sure because I was a participant in one of these groups. I thought the balcony looked curved in that photo, and I couldn't figure out where a QM2 club balcony would have that front.

WillH Posted August 12, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 12, 2015 Just noticed that the post refit deck plans are on the Cunard UK website (look in the section "Our Ships" and then select QM2). They look the same as the versions posted here previously. It looks as though the only changes shown on the plans are the new rooms with no obvious changes shown elsewhere on the ship. I guess they won't release a complete new set of deck plans showing all changes until after the actual refit next year. Will

Salacia Posted August 12, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) The casino certainly has shrunk on those new deck plans:eek:. I need to see the complete set of new deck plans before I select a cabin, and I imagine since cabins are being added and cabin categories are also changing, travel agents as well as passengers would want to see where the new categories are positioned - so my guess is Cunard will need to release a complete set of deck plans well in advance of the actual refit. -S. The new plans for after June 21, 2016 are now on the US site. They don't appear to have changed any of the existing cabin categories, just added the outside singles as K categories. http://www.cunard.com/Documents/2015-2016%20deck%20plans/QM2-Deck-Plan-June2016.pdf
Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted August 12, 2015 Author #11 Share Posted August 12, 2015 Yes, the casino is much smaller. The single cabins on 3L should be interesting. I wonder how long it will take people to find them. That's the old photo gallery. The art gallery is still marked "gallery" and the open space across from Sir Samuels that used to be part of the casino is now marked "gallery." So is that the new photo gallery? What fun trying to get to your cabin by having to go through the casino or all the people looking at their pictures. Kings Court diagram is the same, but it never reflected what the real layout is. bluemarble Posted August 12, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 12, 2015 The kennels are now specifically identified on the new deck plans and the Boardwalk Cafe is still there. Perhaps that means the kennels expansion won't be taking over the Boardwalk Cafe's space. Time will tell. I do rather enjoy an occasional trip to the Boardwalk Cafe on those occasions when it is actually open. Regards, John.

bluemarble Posted August 13, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 13, 2015 Thanks for the link and it's long overdue since Cunard has been selling the yet-to-be-built staterooms for some weeks. I also noticed that the ship is now subdivided into 5 forward to aft zones. I too see there are now "Mid Forward" and "Mid Aft" designations on the new QM2 deck plans. This subdivides the previous "Midships" area according to where Cunard had already divided the staterooms into separate categories. For example, there is the same division between the "BU" and "BV" midships sheltered balcony staterooms on decks 4, 5, and 6. But "BV" is now considered "Mid Forward" and "Mid Aft" instead of "Midships". The Stateroom Category legend has not yet caught up with this new terminology however. By the way, I notice an omission in the Stateroom Category legend on the new QM2 deck plans. Deck 4 is not listed for any of the stateroom categories. Of course deck 4 does actually have staterooms in categories "BU", "BV", "BY", "BZ", "EF", "IC", "IE", and "IF". To be expected for a work in progress, I suppose. John. Hello 3rdGen, I think you mean the gallery facing 'The Golden Lion' ? as Sir Samuels is on deck 3, (casino on deck 2) There is a little space on the port side ,just to the left of Sir Samuels that was often used by the photography department . I wonder if this will be the new images centre as I expect they will go over to the new system ( as on the Vista Class) viewing on touch screens ? :) Anyway, whatever they do at the refit, it all looks very exciting. Yesterday I had lunch with a friend from Cunard who was seconded back to shore side and has been working on a project for the last 3 years. I've aways had an inkling that it was something to do with a big major refit ,but put off asking too many questions for fear of looking inquisitive. After a good bottle of wine yesterday ,I approached the subject , but all they would say was "IT'S GOING TO LOOK AMAZING ! " so I tried again and ordered another bottle ...but to no avail :( :D
Host Hattie Posted August 13, 2015 #17 Share Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) How exciting, I'm quite tempted by the 2 day trip after the re - fit, I know there is a risk that things might not be finished but it would be great to be one of the first to see how she looks. JollyJackTar52 Posted August 13, 2015 #21 Share Posted August 13, 2015 I do have a small concern with the single staterooms on Deck 3L. Given that queues quite frequently form in those passageways for Afternoon Tea, and for meeting the Captain/Commodore at the Black & White Ball, I wonder if anything will be put in place to manage the queues? I'm sure I wouldn't want to be fighting my way past a Queue to get into our out of my stateroom?

I'm sure I wouldn't want to be fighting my way past a Queue to get into our out of my stateroom? I've wondered about that, too. It used to get interesting if you had a low-deck cabin on QE2 and the gangway queue backed up past your cabin. I now know what a salmon feels like swimming upstream! Maybe they'll just direct all queues through the remaining gallery passageway(currently the art gallery).
