My time was on the e-ticket on the CP. It was early because it is a mini suite on B deck I believe. There was no special letter explaining a new procedure, just the (usual?) request to keep to our embarkation times which is what we will be doing and would have been doing even if we had a later time allocated.

 

I think it will be just too stressful to do otherwise to be honest so will aim generally for the allocated time give or take 30 mins.

Mayflower check in. Not opening until one o clock today.

 

 

I think it might be down to size of ship.

Like some one else said that they used to start boarding at 2pm.

But now the ships have got bigger it's hard to get everyone in 2 1/2 hours.

On Ventura they were starting the boarding soon after 11.30am. Now it is a 12.45 start, i think so they can process the day trippers.

When we were last on Arcadia, the day trippers would have been on board before we boarded (probably as soon as the last person left the previous cruise) We were in a mini suite so boarded at 12.30. Our lunch was on the top floor of the MDR, day trippers were having lunch on the bottom floor, so they would have held no one up.

We were once 'daytrippers' and it was the start of our falling in love with cruising... We went to the terminal about 09 30 I seem to recall and were 'processed' in the usual check in way and in groups, had our tour round the ship with a P&O guide.

 

After this well organised peep into various categories of cabins and all the public places, we had (an early) lunch in one of the MDRs down on E-deck I seem to remember and the dining room catered for us alone, with the guide sitting on our table.

 

After this we were escorted off the ship. This would have been by 1pm or by 1 30pm I think as we were there for no more than 4 hours.

 

Don't knock 'daytrippers' - they grow into fully fledged cruising fans ;)

A question for those who drive down on the day.

You leave home at x, which gets you to the terminal for 11.30-12.30. This has allowed time for hold ups, which there may or may not be. If there isn't you are at the terminal at 11.30.

What is the problem with leaving 1/2 hours later (with time built in for hold ups , but which gets you to the terminal for 2/2.30. Let's assume a check in at 3pm.

Nearer to check in time.

We have been travelling down to Southampton for the past 5/6 years, at various times of the year, with no hold ups. Have we really been that lucky.?

 

You are very lucky the last two cruises we have done we have been held up by an accident on the motorway, we have to drive from Manchester and our September cruise was held up and did not sail till 6pm due to the motorway being blocked and coaches were held up. We luckily pulled off at Eastleigh and arrived on time but a few minutes earlier and we would have passed the exit and in the stationery traffic.
